Weather for Today: Mainly Sunny and Warm…

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the Cafeteria for the Kick-Off Assembly for the Heritage Week we will be involved in all next week. It was a long assembly where we learned about all the different activities that we will be able to participate in next week. We will be celebrating the many different cultures and heritages that make up our diverse Maplewood Community!

Period B : We continued to attend the assembly.

Period C:After a initial confusion as to whether we could go to Art or not we went to the Art Room where we continued to work on the Black Light Show props.

Period D: We went on a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Thursday May 30th 2019

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Warm…

Period A : Frankie and Daidrean went to the Co-op Baseball Tournament. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We filled in yesterday’s Daily Report. Fahim used the IWB to research the potential for Centre Island flooding. We are hoping that we will still be able to go to the field trip to the Island next Friday.

Period B : We went to the CPC-ML to make some Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Period C:We met Mr. Stolte in the Art Room. We continued work on our Black Light Show props.

Period D: We went out to the neighbourhood to deliver the Bluffs Monitor Community Newspaper. We also delivered the Thank You Cards we had made as an expression of gratitude to the nice neighbour who had bought us a pizza to thank us for doing a neighbourhood clean up. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday May 29th 2019

Weather for Today: Initially Overcast then Sunny and Warmish…

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the CPC-ML to finish preparing our Jewish Heritage Month Feast. Rebeca and Frankie grated the potatoes and onions for the Latkes. Matthew and Fahim peeled and cut up carrots for the Gefilte Fish. Brandon prepped the celery for the fish. Daidrean, as usual, did a great job with the onions. Rebeca, Vivian and Amena set the table and decorated the room with symbols of Judaica.

Period B : We continued with preparations for the Feast.

Period C: Rebeca, Vivian, Brandon and Mark stayed behind to help Mr. Wilkens and Ms. Savoie clean up. The rest of us went to the art room where we continued working on the props for our Black Light Show.

Period D: We went on a Community Walk. We went to the CPC- ML to celebrate Amena’s  20^th Birthday. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday, May 28th 2019

Weather for Today: Rainy and Coolish….

Period A & Period B : Amena went to her Co-op placement at Giant Tiger. She worked at hanging up summer clothes in the back of the store. Today we were in the CPC-ML working hard at creating our Jewish Heritage Month Feast. Rebeca and Frankie prepped the sweet potatoes and Yams for the Tzimmes. Daidrean the Onion Man prepped the onions. Fahim and Matthew prepped the carrots for the Gefilte Fish. Brandon chopped up some celery. Nerushan supervised and helped with clean up.

Period C: Mr. Stolte was away again today. We had Mr. Ellis as our Occasional teacher. We did some art work initially and then Mr. Ellis took us to the gym to fool around.

Period D: We went back to the CPC-ML to continue with our food prep. Frankie and Rebeca made the Gefilte Fish patties and Amena cooked them. The rest of us helped with clean up. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to No Frills to buy groceries for Jewish Heritage Month Feast we will be having this Wednesday.

Period B : As it was a short day we used up Period B on the trip to No Frills.

Period C: Mr. Stolte was not here today. Mr. Ellis was our occasional teacher and he took us to the gym where we played a game of basketball.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report for Friday and Monday.We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday May 24th 2019

 We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went on our field trip to Rouge Valley Park. When we got there we had to put our socks over our pants so we would not get bit by Lyme Disease carrying ticks.

We went for an extended hike through the park. After the hike we met Ms. Savoie at the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre to eat our picnic lunch of Fried Chicken, Bean Salad Potato Salad and Apple Pie for dessert.

Period D: We did a Mindfulness Body Scan exercise. There was a problem with the network so we were unable to do the Daily Report.

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the CPC –ML to prep the food for the OSSTF Political Action Meeting Amena washed and prepped the lettuce. Vivian and Rebeca made some Chocolate Chip Cookies. Rebeca and Fahim did the Garlic Bread. Brandon and Matthew washing the dishes.  Frankie made the Potato Salad.    

Period B : We continued work on our food prep. When we were finished and we went back to room 200 to clean and prepare the room for a TDSB Literacy event that will be held in the room this evening.

Period C: We continued work on our Black Light Show for the Year End Assembly.  

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the CPC-ML to prep our picnic lunch for Friday as well as prepping the food for an OSSTF Lunch and Learn event that Mr. Wilkens is having tomorrow. Amena and Rebecca prepped the Sweet Peppers. Daidrean did an amazing job with the onions. Rebeca and Frankie peeled the potatoes and prepped the celery. Nerushan prepped the fresh Thyme. Mark cut up the green onions. Brandon and Matthew prepped the ‘shrooms and helped with clean up. Fahim cooked the Marinara Sauce.

Period B : We continued with the food prep.

Period C: We continued work on our Black Light Show props.

Period D: We went to the CPC-ML and did some clean up and then we had some refreshments. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to No Frills to buy the groceries for our picnic lunch for Friday’s field trip to Rouge Valley Park.

Period B : When we got back to school we went to the CPC-ML and unloaded the groceries. We began the preparation of our dessert for Friday’s trip, Apple Pie. Frankie, Daidrean and Rebeca peeled, cored and cut up the apples. Brandon helped to clean up. The rest of us watched Mr. Wilkens demonstrate how to make the sweet pastry.

Period C: In Art class today we continued to work on creating props for the Black Light Show.

Period D: We went on a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the to begin work on making props for the Black Light Show we hope to present at this year’s year-end Assembly.

Period B : We spent most of the period welcoming back our triumphant athlete’s from the Special Olympics Invitational World Championships.

Daily Report for Thursday May 16th 2019

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We used Microsoft Publisher and the IWB to make Thank-you cards for the nice neighbour who had given us a Pizza as a reward for doing a Community Clean-Up. Amena and Frances both made their cards in the classroom. We then moved to the Computer Lab in Room 204 so the rest of the class could make their cards. Frankie and Amena helped the rest of us make their cards.

Period B : We continued with our card making project and when we were finished we went to the CPC-ML to make some Chocolate Cookies and continue with our cleanup of the Kitchen. Frankie and Brandon made the cookies with minimal prompting and they turned out delicious! The boyz did a great job cleaning the kitchen.

Period C: In art today we did some coloring pages. Amena, Daidrean and Frankie helped Mr. Stolte to put some of our and his other classes’ artwork in the display case in the front foyer.

Period A : Vivian and Fahim will be away for the next four days as they are going to the Special Olympics Invitational World Youth Games. Amena went to her Co-op placement at Giant Tiger where she was hanging up Tank Tops and shirts in the back of the store. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then made up a menu for tomorrows special Asian Heritage Month Feast. We then created a shopping list of what we will need to buy for the meal.

Period B : We began making decorations for the Jewish Heritage Month Feast we will be having on May 29^th.

Period C: We finished up working on our Paper Mache platters. We then began preparing for our next art project which will be a ceramic work!

Period D: We went to No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s Asian Heritage Month Feast. We filled in the Daily Report. We did not have time a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday May 13th 2019

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did our weekend journal activity. We made some point form notes about what we had done over the weekend. We then went to the Computer Lab in Room 204 and wrote up a journal entry using Microsoft Word. We then emailed the document to Mr. Wilkens.

Period B : We  continued with our journals for the beginning of the period. We then used the IWB to do a Money Math activity.

Period C: We helped Mr. Stolte  take down the Art Work that staff and students had been voting on for the cover of next years Student Planners. We then went back to the Art room where we continued work on our paper mache platters.

Period D: We began working on developing a Black Light performance for the Year End Assembly. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday May 10th 2019

Today we went on a field trip to the Royal Ontario Museum. We met in the cafeteria at 9:00 and got on a school bus with Mr. Stolte’s art class. We drove along Kingston Rd. to Danforth and the took Danforth to Bloor and then to the Museum. We had a good trip. Mark’s favourite exhibit was the dinosaurs. Fahim liked the Buddha’s. Brandon and Nerushan liked the fish. Rebeca liked the Polar Bears. Amena was kinda bored but liked being with her friends. Vivian liked the pictures of the Chinese Household Gods. Matthew liked the Seahorses. Daidrean liked the whole thing.

Daily Report for Thursday May 9th 2019

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did our Current Events activity. We cut out a picture from an article in the Metro newspaper and then filled in a worksheet answering the 4 W questions. When we were done we presented our work to the class.

Period B : We went out into the local neighborhood to do a Community Clean Up.

While we were working a woman who lived across the street came out and asked what school we came from. She wanted to express her gratitude to us for doing the job! She ordered us a pizza from Pizza Pizza which we had at lunch.

Period C: We did our usual Friday activity of watching and interacting with a Netflix adventure video. Today's was about trying to get some Snake Venom to make anti-venom.

Period D: We went on a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday May 8th 2019

Weather for Today: Sunny and Coolish…

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. Because we did not have a chance to do it on Monday, this morning we did our Weekend Journal activity. We wrote out some point form notes about what we had done over the weekend. We then went to the Computer Lab in Room 204 and wrote our journal entry using Microsoft Word. We then emailed the finished entry to Mr. Wilkens.

Period B : We continued working on our journal. When we had done we went back to our class and used the IWB to do some research on Kosher food, which we will be using to plan a special meal to celebrate Jewish Heritage month.

Period C: In art class today we worked with a visiting aboriginal artist to create an aboriginal art project. We painted and put decals on a piece of deer hide  which we then sewed some beads on.

Daily Report for Tuesday May 7th 2019

Weather for Today: Overcast and Warm…

We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went on our Field Trip to High Park. We took the 905 Express bus to Kennedy Station. We got on the Line 2 subway westbound to High Park station. From there we walked to High Park. Unfortunately, we were perhaps one or two days early for the Cherry Blossoms. There were some blossoms on the trees, but not a lot.

The Forsythia was in full bloom though, here is a picture of the class in front of a large forsythia bush.

After checking out the Cherry Blossoms we walked to the High Park Zoo where we got to see some different animals like Mountain Sheep, Bison, a peacock and some Llamas. We sat down and had our picnic lunch of Buffalo Wing Wraps and Mediterranean Chickpea Salad.

We then walked through the park back to High Park station where we took the TTC back to school.

We finished off the day by filling in the Daily Report and having a short Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday May 6th 2019

Weather for Today: Sunny with a few clouds and Warm!

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. The Girlz went to the Partnership Room to try and Prom Dresses. The rest of us went to the CPC-ML to prepare our picnic lunch for tomorrow’s field trip to High Park. Fahim and Matthew seeded and chopped the Kalamata Olives and Cucumbers. Brandon and Daidrean cut up the sweet peppers and onions. Mark and Nerushan grated the Cheddar Cheese. Amena chopped the Italian Parsley. Vivian and Rebeca cut up the Green Onions. We all got a chance to prepare our Buffalo Chicken Wing Wrap.

Period B : We continued with our food prep for tomorrow’s picnic lunch. When we had done we went back to Room 200 and used the IWB to do a Money Math activity.

Period C: Today we were visited by an Artist in The School instructor. She showed us how to make bracelet’s with plastic beads and leather.

Period D: We went out to finish off our Community Newspaper delivery route. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday May 3rd 2019

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the Art room to finish off our Mother’s Day project.

Period B : We used the IWB to do a series of Yoga  Asana’s, today we did some sitting postures. We then did a Body Scan Mindfulness Exercise.

Period C: We once again did a Video exercise using Netflix. It was called The Universe is Wild and today we made choices about an adventure where we had to rescue a dog in the Arctic.

Period D: We went outside to deliver the Bluffs Monitor Community Newspaper. Today we did the Payzac segment of our assigned route. We filled in the Daily Report.

Daily Report for Thursday May 2nd 2019

   Today was a rather unusual day as most of our class was not in school today as they went to the TDSSA Track and Field Meet at Birchmount  Stadium. Amena and Frances were the only students in class today.

 We started out the day by going to the CPC-ML where Frances and Amena made some Chocolate Chip Cookies. They were able to make the cookies with very little help from Mr. Wilkens. They set up the Mise en Place, read the recipe through twice and then followed the recipe to make a delicious batch of cookies. When Ms. Savoie arrived they went to the Computer lab in Room 204 where Frances practiced taking the G1 Test for when she goes to get her G1 Drivers Licence. Amena listened to music on her phone.

  After lunch, the girlz went to the art room and then out to the new hallway to help paint a mural that Mr. Stolte is creating. Mr. Stolte said they did an excellent job.

  In Period D we used the IWB to find a recipe for a salad we can take on the picnic lunch we will be bringing on our field trip to High Park next Tuesday. We decided on what looks like a delicious Mediterranean Chickpea Salad.

  The rest of the class got back at 2:45 and they did very well at the Meet. Vivian’s Tier 1 Relay team came in 1st Place!! All of the rest of the team members did a great job.

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the CPC-ML to prepare our lunch. Today we had Spaghetti and Meatballs, Caesar Salad and Garlic Bread. Vivian and Frances mixed up the Meatballs and we all had a chance to roll out some of them. Mark and Nerushan set the table. Amena and Frances made the Garlic the Garlic Bread. Rebeca and Amena made the Chocolate Cupcakes. Fahim wore sandals to school today so he could not work in the kitchen. Brandon cannot remember what he did in the kitchen today. Matthew washed and ripped up the Romaine lettuce for the salad.

Period B : We continued with our lunch prep for the first part of the period. We then went back to class where Frances showed us some pictures from her trip to the Philippine’s. We then did some Money Math activities using the IWB.

Period C: In Art today Mr. Stolte was kind enough to let us finish our Mother’s Day project.

Period D: We went on a Community Walk. Most of us met Ms. Queen in Room 207 for a meeting about the Track and Field meet we will be going on tomorrow. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.
