The Weather Today was:

Cold and sunny!

High -11 C. Low -20 C.

In Class Today

Period 1:

-      Met the new supply teacher – Mr. Smith! (Hello everyone!)

-      We talked about our Monday evenings and our plans for tonight.

-      We finished picking our Olympic sports, learned about the history of our sports and watched Olympic coverage of the luge and short track speed skating.

  

Period 2:

-      Worked on our math worksheets.

-      Played BINGO and MR. SMITH WON (because we ran out of time).

-      Sarah took Taylor and Jessica to co-op. There, they cleaned windows, cleaned the computer lab and watched Olympic figure skating.  

Period 3:

-      After lunch we brushed our teeth.

-      Finished our classroom jobs.

-      Filled in our daily report.

-      Finished picking our Olympic events and learning about them.

-      We meditated as a class.

Period 4:

-      We practiced our Photo booth.

-      We took turns taking pictures and using the props to pose

-      We talked about good framing and how to use a camera

Tomorrow:

Tomorrow is a regular day.

In period 4 we invited Ms. Hargraft/Mr. Osborne’s class to come down to the cafeteria and see our Photo booth.

Daily Report Monday February 10 2014

Today’s Date: Monday, February 10 2014

The Weather Today was: Sunny, cold, windy. High -7, Low -13, POP 20%  

In Class Today:

Period 1: Introduce ourselves to supply teacher, Mr. Escobar. Circle discussion: What we did on the weekend (Taylor and Julian went to the Marlies game!! J). We did a yoga class.

Period 2: We did calendar, shape pattern maze, time on Smart Board. Drama activities: musical chairs, dancing hot potato, animal charades.

Period 3: We brushed our teeth and did classroom jobs. Sarah led an activity where we had to guess what object was in the bag. We then completed out daily report. Finally we did meditation.  

Period 4: We are going to work on our Photo booth props and our backdrop.

Daily Report for Friday February 7th. 2014

Today’s Date:

Friday February 7^th  2014

The Weather Today was:  

Partly Cloudy, COLD !  High: -10  Low: -13  P.O.P.: 20%

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the computer lab. Jessica worked on Starfall.com, Arqum did some more research on Sufi Meditation while Curtis and Julian worked on Jigzone puzzles.

Period 2: We tried to watch the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics but the video streaming was very choppy and there were too many advertisements. Then we each picked a sport that we will follow during the games. Arqum choose Curling, Curtis picked Ice Hockey, Jessica will concentrate on Figure Skating and Julian will be keeping track of the Cross Country Skiing events.

Period 3: Julian and Curtis went to their co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart to say thank-you and good-bye. The rest of us did some work on patterning and math using the Promethean Board. Then we filled in the daily report. We then had plenty of time for a sitting.

Period 4: Since we had such a productive week we decided that today would be a fun day ! We went to s-15 and finished off work on our props for the Photo Booth. Then we played a game called Headbanz.

On Monday we will: We will be going to the YMCA. Gym clothes required.

Daily Report for Thursday February 6th. 2014

Thursday February 6^th  2014

The Weather Today was:  

Overcast and Cold, High: -8  Low: -9  P.O.P.: 30%

In Class Today:

Period 1: Curtis, Taylor and Mr. Wilkens went to a Swim Meet at Bendale B.T.I. Markeisha, Arqum , Meagan and Spencer were away so that left only two students in the class ! Julian and Jessica  prepared the Lunch Program meal of Pizza and Caesar Salad. We made an extra pizza so Taylor could have it for lunch tomorrow.

Period 2: We finished off preparing our pizza and salad then we got to work on various activities on the Promethean Board. After that we started watching a movie called Beverly Hills Chihuahua.  

Period 3: First we finished watching the movie. We cleaned up from making lunch. Then we did our classroom jobs. Which left us just enough time for a sitting.

Period 4: We started out by reviewing what we had learned yesterday. Then we went to S-15 to work on posters advertising our Photo Booth.

Meanwhile at the Swim Meet…

The Maplewood Swim Team was a roaring success ! Taylor came in third in his race and Curtis came in second in his race. Here are some videos of our fantastic swimmers…

Tomorrow we will: Be watching some of the Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics. We will also begin working on some Olympic activities.

Daily Report for Wednesday February 5th 2014

Wednesday February 5^th  2014

The Weather Today was:  

SNOWY !  High: -4  Low: -9 P.O.P.: 100%

In Class Today:

Period 1: We used the Promethean board to learn a little bit about the history of Pizza. We made a shopping list for the ingredient’s for tomorrow’s lunch.  Then Mr. Wilkens tried his hand at programming and created a flipchart lesson on pizza making. We all got a chance to create a virtual pizza on the Promethean Board.

Period 2: The class went to the Art Room where we underglazed our Ceramic Valentine’s Day plates. Mr. Wilkens will dip them in clear glaze and fire them , hopefully this week, so we can bring them home next week.

Period 3: We all did our classroom jobs. Since Markeisha was away, Julian was good enough to help Curtis put away the dishes. We then used the new flipchart to practice our pizza making skills. Strangely enough, Curtis wanted worms on his Pizza ! We then filled in the daily report and had a skillful sit.

Period 4: We started out our World of Work class by reviewing what we learned about, bullying, yesterday. Then we went to S-15 to work on our props for the Photo Booth activity.

Tomorrow we will: Be having our Lunch Program meal, Pizza, Caesar Salad and Fruit Salad for dessert.

Curtis and Taylor will be going with Mr. Wilkens and the Maplewood Swim Team to a tournament at Bendale B.T.I.

Daily Report for Tuesday February 4th 2014

Today’s Date: Tuesday, February 4, 2014

The Weather Today was:  cold and a little bit of sunshine.  It was -7 celcius

In Class Today   We had a supply teacher, Ms. Levine. She used to be a teacher at Maplewood.

Period 1: We discussed what we did last night, one at a time. We used the Smart Board to do our calendar, shapes and symbols and patterning.   

Period 2:  Sarah took Jessica and Taylor to their Co-op job at the Boys’ and Girls’ club. The rest of the class worked on their newspaper articles.  Then we all went to the gym to play soccer.

Period 3: We finished our newspaper articles.  Then Arqum, Jessica and Curtis loaded the dishwasher.  Afterwards we all went to the Smart Board to write the daily report. Then we did our classroom jobs followed by meditation.

Period 4: We talked with Ms. Shanna about bullying in the classroom or in the work place. We discussed strategies for dealing with bullying such as telling a teacher or a principal, walk away, ignore. We do not fight back for a bully. Next we are going to work on our props for the photo booth.

Today’s Date:

 Monday February 3^rd  2014

The Weather Today was:  

Partly Cloudy, High: -4  Low: -6  P.O.P.: 10%

In Class Today:

While most of the class went to the YMCA, Spencer went to his new co-op placement. Spencer is working as a kitchen assistant at the Nutrition Program at Guildwood J.P.S. Arqum and Megan were away today.

The rest of us took the TTC to the Scarborough YMCA. First off we went upstairs to walk around the indoor track. Taylor and Curtis, as usual, went above and beyond the call of duty and ran around track numerous times. After we had all had a good workout on the track we went to the pool for some swimming.

After a nice swim we got changed then went to the Scarborough Town Centre food court where we ate our lunch. We then took the TTC back to school and arrived just in time for our Period D class,

Exploring the World of Work. In this period we worked on props for the Photo Booth we hope to set up in the near future.
