Daily Report for Thursday February 28th 2019

Weather for Today: Sunny and Cold…

Period A : Vivian and Frankie went to the gym for the tier 1 and 2 volleyball tournament all day .Mr. Makan was away today we had Mr. Nathan as our Occasional EA. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did our Current Events Activity. We chose an article from the star metro newspaper and used it to fill in a worksheet. When we had finished we represented work to the class.

Period B : We used the IWB to read a story called WHEN SOPHIE GETS ANGRY - REALLY, REALLY ANGRY. We then talked about anger management and skillful ways to deal with anger.

Period C: In Art Class today Matthew and Rebeca did their printmaking activity. Vivian and Frankie were not there the rest played games and did colouring pages.  

Period D:We delivered the Bluffs Monitor Community Newspaper. We had some Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: We will going on a field trip to the TTC Office at Davisville Station tomorrow. Students need the bring a bagged lunch.

Weather for Today: Snowy and Cold…

Period A : Rebeca and Fahim went to the Special Olympics Bocce Ball Regional Tournament at Monarch Park C.I. The tournament was canceled because of the snow storm and they got back to school just in time for the Spaghetti lunch. The rest of us began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the CPC-ML to prepare our lunch. Frankie cut up some bread to make croutons. Matthew prepped the Romaine lettuce for the Caesar Salad. Mark and Nerushan set the table. Vivian did her usual amazing job of washing the dishes. We all helped to prep the meatballs.

Period B : We continued with our lunch prep. When we had finished we went to the Computer Lab with Theresa where worked on math programs.

Period C: In  Art class today we continued work on our print making activity. Matthew, Nerushan and Mark all began their project  today.

Period D: We met in the CPC-ML where we had our delicious dessert of Brownies and Vanilla Ice Cream. We did not go on our  Community Walk because of the inclement weather. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We made a menu and the shopping list. We will be having Spaghetti and Meatballs and Brownies and Ice Cream for dessert.  We walked to No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch.

Period B : We got back from No Frills we unloaded the groceries Frances, with the rest of the class helping made the Brownies.

Period C: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. Nerushan and Matthew went to put the art in the front foyer display case Fahim, Brandon and Rebeca started our new project called print making. We started our first colour in our print making project.  

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday February 25th 2019

Weather for Today: Overcast and Cold…

Period A : Today is a Staff Meeting Day Schedule Mr. Wilkens was away for the day so we had Ms. Dumas as our Occasional Teacher. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did our Weekend Journal.

Period B : We went to the Computer Lab to type our Weekend Journal and e-mailed it to Mr. Wilkens.

Period C: We went for Art to Mr. Stolte’s class. We picked out the colours for our new project,  made bracelets and did puzzles.      

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday February 22nd 2019

Weather for Today: Overcast and Cold…

We had our Mindfulness Minutes.  We then went on our field trip to St Lawrence Market. We took the 905 express bus to Kennedy Station. We got on the Line 2 subway westbound to St George Station and then transferred to  Line 1 subway. We took the subway southbound to Union Station. Then we walked along Front Street to the St. Lawrence Market. We explored the Market with it’s wide variety of different types of food. We then ate lunch in the downstairs market. After we had eaten we explored the market some more before walking north to King Street where we got on the 504B King Streetcar which took us to Broadview Station. We got on the Line 2 subway eastbound to Kennedy Station and then where we got the 905 bus eastbound and went back school.

When we got back to school we had to rearrange some furniture in the classroom so the maintenance people can do some needed work. We had some Hot Chocolate. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a short Mindfulness Mediation sitting.

Note to Parents: Monday is a short Staff Meeting Day Schedule. Bus p/u at 12:30PM.

Daily Report for Thursday February 21st 2019

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Cold…

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We practiced our Oh Canada rendition, making sure to use the new gender-neutral lyrics. We then went to the Computer Lab in Room 204 where we worked on our Words for Love project.

Period B : We continued working on our Words for Love project. When we had all finished we went back to Room 200 where we did a Body Scan Mindfulness exercise.

Period C: In Art class today we went to put up our String Paintings in the Front Foyer Display case. Here is a picture of our work….

For the rest of the period, we worked on our social skills by playing various games with each other. Frances and Amena went to the Girls Chat group in the library.

Period D: We went on a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report.

Note to Parents: Field Trip to St. Lawrence Market tomorrow. Students need to bring a bagged lunch or $ to purchase lunch.

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Cold…

Period A : Fahim and Brandon went to their Co-op placement at Shopper’s Drug Mart, where they did merchandise recovery. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the CPC-ML to prepare our lunch. Rebeca, Frankie and Daidrean cut up the chicken breasts for Butter Chicken. Frankie cooked the Paneer Pea Curry. Daidrean cooked the Butter Chicken.

Period B : We continued with the lunch prep . In the last half of the period we went to the Computer Lab where we worked on our Words of Love Project.

Period A : Frankie went to her Co-op placement at Giant Tiger. She was hanging clothes on hangers. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We did our Weekend Report Activity. We made point form notes of what we had done over the Family Day Long Weekend in class. We then went to the Computer Lab in Room 204 where we used Word to create a document which we sent to Mr. Wilkens by TSDB E- mail.  

Period B :We continued with the Weekend Journal Activity. Those of us who had finished, worked on our Words for Love Project. When we had all finished, we went to the CPC-ML where we finished up cleaning from Friday's special event.

Period C:  We went to Room S16 for Art class. We continued with our String Painting project.

Period D: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday February 11th 2019

Weather for Today: Sunny and Coldish….

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We  went to the CPC-ML to begin work on preparing the catering job we will be doing this week. We are making a vegetarian meal for 55 people which will be served on Friday when Mr. Wilkens is organizing a PD session on Mindfulness in Education. 50 teachers from across the TDSB will be attending the session here at Maplewood where they will be learning about the uses of Mindfulness practice in an educational setting. Our class is preparing a vegetarian meal for the event.

Period B : We went back to our classroom and did our Weekend Journal activity. . We wrote out some point form notes on our weekend activities. We then went to the Computer Lab where we wrote up the journals on the computers using Microsoft Word.

Period C: We finished off our String Paintings. We also did some coloring activities.

Period D: We finished off delivering the Bluffs Monitor Community Newspaper. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday February 8th 2019

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Cold.

We had our Mindfulness Minutes.

We then went on a field trip to Allen Gardens in downtown Toronto. We took the 905 Express bus to Kennedy Station . We got on the Line 2 subway westbound and got off at Sherbourne station. We took the 75 Sherbourne bus southbound and got off at Carleton Street. We walked to the Allen Gardens Conservatory. We toured around the greenhouse’s and saw a wide variety of plants and even some turtles and goldfish.

We then walked to the old Maple Leaf Gardens building and checked out the Loblaw’s and Joe Fresh stores there. We then walked to College Park where we ate in the Food Court. We then took the TTC back to school.

We went back to our classroom where we celebrated Mark’s birthday with cake and Ice Cream.

We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: Term 2, Semester1 Report Cards are in the students Communication Books. Also in the Communication Books are Permission Forms for next week’s Field Trip to St. Lawrence Market. Please sign and return ASAP. 

Daily Report for Thursday February 7th 2019

Weather for Today: Overcast and Cold…

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then prepared our lunch. Vivian and Nerushan set the table Daidrean and Amena cut up the onions. Amena and Frankie prepped the sweet peppers. Frankie also cut up the hot peppers. Brandon peeled and cut up the carrots. Matthew prepped the zucchini and mushrooms. We all worked very hard at preparing our Chinese Food feast.

Period B : We continued with the lunch prep. When we were done we had a short break and then sat down to lunch. Today we had a special guest, Esther Kim , the music teacher who is helping us with our rendition of Oh Canada.

Period C: We finished off our portfolios and began work on a new project, String Painting.

Period D: We went on a Community Walk during which we delivered the first half of our newspaper route. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the CPC-ML to prepare the lunch for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community weekly lunch. We made Chana Masala, Basmati Rice and Mindfulness Buns.

Period B : We finished off making the lunch. We went back to Room 200 where we made the menu and shopping list for tomorrow’s lunch. We will be having Chinese Food.

Period C: We finished making our Art Portfolios. We were dismissed 10 minutes early so we could go shopping for the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch.

Period D: We went to No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. When we got back to school we went to the CPC-ML to put away the groceries. We then had just enough time to fill in the Daily Repor

Period A :  Mr. Wilkens was away for the day so we had Ms. Patel as our Occasional Teacher. We had our Mindfulness Minutes.  We did our weekend journals and  then  went to the Computer Lab to type it and forward it to Mr. Wilkens. Nerushan was away today.

Period B : We did Money Math using fake money.  We use the IWB for Money Math Exercise.  

Period C: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16 We continued finishing our portfolio jackets.

Period D: We went on a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday February 1st 2019

Weather for Today: Sunny and Cold…

Period A : Today was the first day of Semester 2. We will now be with Mr. Wilkens for all of the morning and then go to Mr. Stolte’s Art class after lunch before returning to Mr. Wilkens for the last period of the day. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We did a lesson on personal information. Mr. Wilkens gave each of us a form for us to fill in with our personal information such as our address, the school's address and other information. One of the parts we were to fill required us to know our height and weight. Since none of us knew this info we went down to the Girl’s gym office where we used the scale to weigh ourselves and to measure our height.

Period B : We continued with the personal information exercise as well as using the IWB to look up how well we measured up with our height and weight ratios. We then went to the CPC-ML and were able to sample some food that Mr. Wilkens had prepared for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community Open House lunch which was held during yesterday’s PA Day. We tried some Tawa Pulao Mumbai Style and some Vegetarian Kulbakia.

Period C: We met in S-16, the Art room for our class with Mr. Stolte. We began by playing a Kahoot game using the class set of IPads. The game was about our knowledge of Maplewood rules and expectations. After we had played the game we began work on our Portfolio Folders.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.
