Period A : In Food School today we made oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies.  We seeded the pumpkins.  

Period B : Mr. Wilkens was away for the day so we had Mr. Turnbull as our  Occasional Teacher . We had our Mindfulness Minutes and Musical Chairs and Halloween Carnival.

Period C: We went for our Community Walk and filled in the Daily Report.

Period D: Halloween Dance.

Weather for Today: Sunny and Coolish….

Period A : Vivian and Daidrean went to their Co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart. The rest of us made Raspberry Jam sandwiches’ for a catering order.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. The girlz worked on making some bracelets and chockers. The boyz did some colouring while Fahim did research on upcoming field trips. We then came up with a shopping list for our Lunch Program, which this week will be on Thursday.

Period C:  We went to No Frills to buy the groceries for Thursday’s lunch. When we got back to school we went to the ME Kitchen to put away the groceries.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : Today we cut up some fruits for fruit salad. We also helped to make some Holiday Fruit Cake.

Period B : We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then worked on our Weekend Journal activity. We wrote out some point form notes in class then went to the Computer lab where we typed up the notes into our journals.

Period C: Since today was a short day schedule we only had time to finish off our journals.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : Frankie and Amena went to their Co-op placement at Old Navy. They worked at folding baby Halloween clothing. They both did an excellent job and were able to work independently. The rest of us worked in the Food School making Halloween cupcakes.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the Computer lab where we worked on individual educational programs.

Period C: We used the IWB to do some Yoga exercises. After the yoga we did a Body Scan Mindfulness exercise.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We practiced our “What’s Up” song.

Daily Report for Thursday October 25th 2018

Period A : Matthew and Fahim went to their Co-op placement at Eastview P.S. at 9:30 AM. They worked in the school Snack Program by washing out the bins used to distribute the food to the different classes. In Food school today Mark, Brandon, Nerushan, Fahim grated some Mozzarella Cheese for tomorrow’s pizza lunch. Matthew and Vivian cleaned out the Popcorn machine. Frankie, Amena and Rebeca prepped the ingredients for Golden Muffins.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then began working on our acts for the Holiday Assembly. We are going to be singing the same song we sang last year at the Year End Assembly, What’s Up by 4 Non Blondes. Frankie and Amena also hope to sing a song by a band called Little Mix, Shout Out to My Ex.

Period C: Rebeca went to her Level 2 Co-op placement. She worked in the library cleaning table and computer desks and tided the books on the shelves. She also cleaned the shelves and sorted the Reference works. We did a little Money Math work then went for an early Community Walk. When we got back to the classroom we filled in the Daily Report.

Period D: We went to the Art Room to begin work on our latest Ceramic project. We will be re-doing the platters we had made for the Markham Fair but this time we take our time, be more careful and produce a highly superior project.

Daily Report for Wednesday October 24^th 2018

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Coolish…

Period A : Today we worked on a catering order for Ms. Savoie ( our Lunch Room Supervisor). We put popcorn into individual bags. We made almost 500 bags!

Period B : We met in the ME Kitchen where we did the food prep for our lunch. Rebeca and Fahim grated the cheese. Mark and Nerushan set the table. Amena, Frankie, Brandon, Matthew, and Vivian cut up the garnish for the Garden Salad. Daidrean prepped the macaroni.

Period C: We cleaned up the dishes and the kitchen. We had our dessert of Chocolate Chip Cookies and Vanilla Ice Cream. We had our Drama activity where we played a game of Musical Chairs. Mr. Wilkens made the game a little more interesting by offering a $1.00 prize for the winner. After a very hard fought contest, Vivian emerged as the victor!

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday October 22nd 2018

Weather for Today: Overcast and Cool…

Period A : Today in Food school we watched a scary movie about cooking for Halloween. It showed someone who made cakes that looked like monsters.

Period B : We did our Weekend Journal activity. We wrote out some point form notes about what we had done over the weekend. We then went to the Computer lab where we used the computers to write up a final copy of our journal.

Period C: We did some money math activities. We used the IWB and plastic money to come up with different amounts of money. We then did some worksheets where we had to add up different amounts of coins.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: We are planning to go to a Halloween Dance at Heron Park Community Centre tomorrow. The cost of admission for the Dance is $4.00.

Please send in $4.00 tomorrow.

Period A : We mixed the ingredients and made the different type of tea biscuits.  Amena and Frances were on Co-op placement at Old Navy. Mr. Wilkens came to the Food School to observe us  at work.

Period B : We went to Computer Lab to do an educational program.

Period C: We did yoga and Body Scan.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report.

Daily Report for Thursday October 18th 2018

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Cool…

Period A : Frankie and Amena made pie dough. Vivian, Mark, Fahim, Matthew and Brandon grated Mozzarella cheese for tomorrow’s pizza. Daidrean weighed out the cheese portions. At the end of the period we all helped to clean the kitchen.

Period B : Matthew and Fahim  went to their Co-op placement  at Eastview P.S. Today they cleaned out the food bins. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then had our Drama activity. We played three games of Musical Chairs and then we did some drama improvisation. Amena and Vivian acted out a scenario about gossip.

Period C: We began to decorate the classroom for Halloween. We used the IWB to choose some colouring pages with a Halloween theme. We also put up some the Halloween decorations that Mr. Wilkens had from previous years.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday October 17th 2018

Period A : We all helped to put together a catering order of Fruit Salad. We made almost 200 cups of Fruit Salad. Amena and Rebeca cut up some strawberries and apples. Daidrean put some marinated meat strips on a tray.

Period B : We met in the ME Kitchen to prepare our lunch. Today we made Nigerian food. We made Jollof  Rice, a Vegetable stew and a beef dish called Suya which was seasoned beef cut into thin strips and broiled. Amena and Rebeca cut up some sweet peppers and tomatoes. Mark and Brandon set the table. Fahim cut up some chicken and cooked the Jollof rice. Vivian did a great, if tearful, job of cutting up some onions. Frankie cut up some celery. Daidrean peeled and cut up some carrots. Matthew cut up some potatoes and mushrooms.

Period C: We all helped to clean up the dishes and the kitchen. Vivian, Brandon and Matthew did an exceptional job washing the dishes. Frankie did an amazing job cleaning the stoves. When we were done cleaning up we all sat down to enjoy our dessert of Vanilla Ice Cream with Chocolate Sauce.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday October 16th 2018

Weather for Today: A few clouds and Cool…

Period A : In Food school today we prepared some fruit salad for a large catering order. We also peeled potatoes. At the end of the period we cleaned up the kitchen.

Period B : Vivian went to her Co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart where she did a great job stocking shelves with juice. We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then used the IWB to research Nigerian food. We decided on three recipe’s that we will make for tomorrows lunch. From the recipe’s we made up a shopping list. We finished off the period by doing some money math activities on the IWB.

Period C: We walked to the local No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. When we got back we went to the ME Kitchen to put the groceries away.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A: In Food School Rebeca, Fahim, Nerushan, Matthew and Brandon cleaned parsley. Amena, Frances, Vivian and Daidrean were punished for coming late to the class. They had to watch a video on kitchen safety rules.

Period B: We had our Mindfulness Minutes.We filled out our Fridays Daily Report.  Then we did our Weekend Journal notes and we then went to Computer Lab to type our Weekend Journal.

Period C: We went to ME Kitchen to make our Apple Pie. We rolled out the dough for pie crust  Then we put the Apple Pie Filling and Mr. Wilkens put the apple pies in the oven to bake.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Weather for Today: Rainy and Cool….

Period A : Mr. Wilkens was away at a conference so we had Mr. Sullivan as our Occasional teacher. Frances, Amena and Rebeca went to their first Co-op placement at Old Navy in the Scarborough Town Centre. They had a busy morning folding clothes. The rest of us got to watch a movie, we continued to watch Coco, a Disney movie.

Period B : We went to the Cafeteria for the Terry Fox follow up assembly. We found out that Maplewood managed to raise $2322.00 for Cancer research. Because we were able to raise so much this Friday is going to be a Pajama Day and we will also be getting Ice Cream Sundaes as a reward.,

Period C: We had our usual Friday Yoga session followed by a Body Scan Mindfulness exercise.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Today we went to a Cross Country Meet at Sunnybrook Park. The whole class took part in the competition. Mark came in 3^rd. place in his division. The rest of us all finished the course. It was a good time had by all.

Period A : We all worked very hard making almost 300 vegetable wraps for a catering order. We set up an assembly line and each of us added different vegetables to the tortilla wrap. In the last part of the period we all helped to clean up the kitchen.

Period B : We met in the ME Kitchen to prepare our lunch. Matthew cracked the eggs for the scrambled eggs and made the French Toast. Daidrean laid out the bacon on a baking sheet to be cooked in the oven. Brandon cooked the scrambled eggs. Frankie made the waffles. Vivian and Amena sliced the onions and then Amena cooked the Home Fries. Mark and Nerushan set the table.

Period C: We met in the kitchen again to clean up. When we had finished we had our dessert of Fruit Salad cups.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : The people in Food School were very busy prepping their Turkey lunch so we got to watch a movie. The movie was called Coco and it was about Mexico’s Day of the Dead.

Period B : Matthew and Fahim went to their co-op placement at Eastview P.S. where they worked in the snack program. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the ME Kitchen to continue food prep for tonight’s dinner. Rebeca and Amena made some Apple Pies. Matthew and Brandon helped with clean up. Mark and Nerushan helped with clean up as well.

Period C: We once again went to the ME Kitchen to finish the food prep. We also all helped out setting the tables in the Partnership Room.

Period D: We went out to deliver the rest of the Bluffs Monitor Community Newspaper. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : In Food school today we packed some crudités for a catering order. We then went into the Partnership Room to watch a video on safety in the kitchen.

Period B : We met in the ME Kitchen to continue with the food prep for tomorrow’s Student/Parent Dinner. Fahim and Mark peeled some sweet potatoes. Brandon, Daidrean and Vivian peeled some potatoes. Rebeca and Amena made the pumpkin pies. Nerushan helped to clean the kitchen.

Period C: We continued with the food prep.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : In food school today we all helped out to make some Maple Cranberry Cookies.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to begin the food prep for Thursdays Turkey dinner. Rebeca and Matthew peeled and cut up some carrots. Fahim prepped the sweet potatoes. Mark put the bread out onto a baking sheet to toast it for the dressing. Nerushan peeled the butternut squash. Brandon cut up the celery. Daidrean cut up the onions with only a few tears.

Period C: We continued with the food prep…..

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : Rebeca and Frankie made some Tuna Melts. The boyz made some Cheddar Cheese and Corn biscuits. Vivian, Amena, Fahim and Brandon peeled apples for pie.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We did our Weekend Journal activity. We first made some point form notes and then went to the computer lab to type up our journals. Today was Orange Shirt day and we all wore the orange Tie Dye shirts that we made last week. Here is a picture of the class wearing the shirts…

Period C: We went outside to deliver the Bluffs Monitor Community newspaper.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report for Friday and then today's Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Today we went on a field trip to the Markham Fair. We took a TDSB school bus to the fair. There were three buses that took us as almost the whole school went on the trip.

At the fair we saw a lot of different things. We saw the Art exhibit where Rebeca and Frances both won a prize for their ceramic platters. Here is a picture of the prize winning work…
