Daily Report for Wednesday January 31st 2018

Weather for Today: Overcast, Snowy and Cold….

Period A: Mr. Wilkens was away for the morning. Our Occasional Teacher was  Ms. Matthews. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We did our Current Event’s activity where we chose an article from the Metro paper. We filled in our worksheets and then presented our work to the class.

Period B: We did some Money Math activities. We also did some exercises with time and clocks.

Period C: We used the IWB to come up with some idea’s for the lunch we will be bringing on our field trip to Allen Gardens. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We went to the Gym to see a Staff vs Student Basketball Game !

Daily Report for Tuesday January 30th 2018

Weather for Today:  Sunny and Cold…..

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We began by filling in the Daily Report from yesterday. When we had finished we did our Weekend Journal activity. We wrote in our journals some of the things we did over the weekend. When we had finished our journals we presented our work to the class.

Period B: We went to the ME Kitchen where we got the tableware with which to set the table in S-7 for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. We went back to our classroom where we did some research on Allen Gardens using the IWB.

Period C: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We all finished up our Paper Mache projects. We also helped to clean up the Art Room.

Daily Report for Monday January 29th 2018

Weather for Today: Cloudy, Cold with Snow..

We had our Mindfulness Minutes. Then we went on our field trip to Birchmount Collegiate for their Winter Dance. We took the Scarborough 86 bus to Kennedy Station. From there we took the Kingston Rd. 12 to Birchmount. We had a good time at the dance. There were classes from all over the TDSB there. Here is a picture of the dance.

At 12:45 we left the dance to come back to school. We got back to school just in time for Art class with Mr. Stolte. We put the final touches on our Paper Mache projects.

Daily Report for Friday January 26th 2018

Weather for Today: Partly cloudy and Coldish…

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to make some Gingerbread Bears & Men. First we rolled out the dough that Mr. Wilkens had made. We then used some Cookie Cutters to cut out our gingerbread figures.

Period B: We began with a Money Math activity using the IWB. Then we began to create a new IWB flipchart that will let us sort different types of waste into the appropriate container, either a Green( Organics) Bin or a Blue Bin               ( recyclables ) or a Black Bin ( Garbage ).

Period C: We went to the ME Kitchen and decorated our Gingerbread Figures with Royal Icing. We then had the dessert we did not have time to eat yesterday. We had Chocolate Brownies with Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate sauce. When we had finished we went back to the classroom where we filled in the Daily Report. We had no time for anything else.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We are finishing our Paper Mache birds and butterflies.

Note to Parents : We will be going on a field trip to the DD Winter Dance at Birchmount Collegiate on Monday.

Daily Report for Thursday January 25th 2018

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Cold…

Period A: Because of the amount of work we had to do to make today’s lunch Mr. Wilkens had us meet in the ME Kitchen. Amena and Rebeca prepped the carrots and potatoes. Brandon and Matthew cut up the cauliflower and sliced some onions. Mark and Ahmed set the table. Ahmed also fried the Bolani. Nerissa and Ahmed  cut up the turnip and chopped the cilantro.

Period B: We continued to do the food prep for lunch. After most of the prep work had been done we went to the Computer Lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period C: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16.

Period A: Mr. Wilkens was a away for the day so We had Mr. Syed as our Occasional Teacher. We had our Mindfulness Minutes .We did our weekly current events we present work to the class .Nerushan was absent for the day.

Period B: We (six students) went to the gym to play bocce ball while other three students went to the computer lab.

Period C: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting and we completed the money math activity.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. 

Daily Report for Tuesday January 23rd 2018

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Coolish…….

Period A: Amena went to her Co-op placement at Giant Tiger. We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then used the IWB to do some research on Afghani Cuisine. We decided that we would be having Kabuli Pulao, Bolani Katchalu and Qorma-e-Gul-e-Kalam .

Period B: We went to the ME Kitchen to collect the tableware for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. We brought it to S-7 where Ms. Queen took it for her class to set the table. We went back to Room 200 where we came up with a shopping list for our trip to No Frills tomorrow to buy the groceries for Thursday’s lunch.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen where we washed the dishes from the MMC lunch. We then sat down to have the dessert we were supposed to have had last Thursday, Guyanese Red Cake. We then went back to class where we filled in the Daily Report. Qorma-e-Gul-e-Kalam (Cauliflower Stew)

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We are still working on our Paper Mache projects.

Weather for Today: Rainy and Cool…

Period A & B: Today is a short Staff Meeting day schedule. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We filled in Fridays Daily Report that we did not have enough time for on Friday. We then did our Weekend Report. We wrote in our journals some of the things we had done over the weekend. When we had finished writing in our journals we presented our work to the class.

Period C: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. Hopefully we will be finishing our Paper Mache projects.

Daily Report for Friday January 19th 2018

Weather for Today:  Sunny and Cool…..

Period A: We went on our field trip to the St. Lawrence Market. We took the 86 Scarborough bus to Kennedy Station. We took the Line 2 subway to Yonge Station. We transferred to the Line 1 subway and went south to Union station. We walked to the St. Lawrence Market and walked around the market looking at all the different types of foods. We went downstairs  where we ate our lunch. We then walked around the market some more. We  decided to take a different route back to school. We walked north to King Street where we got on the 504 King streetcar which brought us to Broadview Station where we got on the Line 2 subway back to Kennedy Station and then the 86 Scarborough back to school.

Period D: We got back just in time to go to Art class. Mr. Stolte was away and we had Mr. Zhu as our teacher. Some of us worked on our Paper Mache projects while others did some Group of Seven coloring. 

Daily Report for Thursday January 18th 2018

Weather for Today:  Overcast  and coldish…

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. Then we went to the ME Kitchen to prepare our lunch Fahim cut op onions, made the Mango punch and helped to cook the chicken meat pie filling. Brandon and Matthew prepped the potatoes for the Allo Channa Masala. Nerissa cut up the Chinese Long Beans. Ahmed helped to set the table and he also shredded the cabbage.

Period B: We all got to go to an Olympic Winter Carnival in the gym. We played all sorts of games and won some prizes. It was a lot of fun.

Period C: We all helped out to clean up the kitchen and do the dishes. Today we did not have time for dessert as we had to finish delivering the Bluffs Monitor Community paper. By the time we got back from doing this it was time to go to Art.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We are finally getting to finish our Paper Mache Butterflies and Birds.

Note to Parents: We will be going on a field trip to the St. Lawrence Market  tomorrow. Students will need to bring a lunch or bring $ to buy

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We began by making a shopping list for the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. We then went to No Frills to buy the groceries.

Period B: When we got back to school we went to the ME Kitchen to put away the groceries. We then had some Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows.

Period C: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Body Scan Mindfulness exercise. We did some more research on the St. Lawrence Market.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We are putting the finishing touches on our Paper Mache Butterflies and Birds.  

Daily Report for Tuesday January 16th 2018

Period A: Amena went to her co-op placement where she is acting as a mentor for two other students, Courtney and Caitlin Mr. Wilkens was away again this morning. We had 4 different on-call teachers in the morning. We started  with our Mindfulness Minutes. Then we did our Current Events activity. We chose an article from the Metro Newspaper that we used to fill in our worksheets. When we had done the written work we presented our work to the class.

Period B:We used the IWB to do a money math activity. We then went to the ME Kitchen to get the tableware to set up for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. When we got to S-7 though Ms. Queen said she would get her class to set the table.    

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen where we all helped to clean up from the  MMC lunch. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. Today we will be painting our Paper Mache birds and butterflies.

Daily Report for Monday January 15th 2018

Weather for Today: Overcast, Snowy and COLD….

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We did our weekend journals. We all wrote at least 5 sentences describing what we had done over the weekend. When we had finished writing in our journals we presented our work to the class.

Period B: We went out to begin delivery of the Bluffs Monitor Community newspaper. It was very cold but we got the job done ! When we got back to the classroom we had a well deserved Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows and some treats that Theresa brought for the class.

Period C: We used the IWB to do some research about the St. Lawrence Market, where we will be going to on Friday.  We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued work on our Paper Mache birds and butterflies.

Weather for Today: Rainy, cold with Freezing rain…

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went on our field trip to the Line 1 subway extension. We took the 86E Scarborough Bus to Kennedy Station. We then took the Line 2 subway to Spadina station where we transferred over to the Line 1 subway and went north. The subway

Cars were was different from the ones they use on Line 2. They were all joined to together so you could walk from the front of the train if you wanted to. When we got to the end of the line at Vaughn Mills we discovered, much to Mr. Wilkens consternation we discovered the Vaughn Mills Mall was not connected to the subway station but was quite a long walk away ! As we needed somewhere to eat our lunch we decided to go to the Yorkdale Mall. We went to the food court at Yorkdale and ate our lunch. Then back on the train to get back to school.

When we got back to school, once again, we only had time to fill in Daily Report.

Daily Report for Thursday January 11th 2018

Weather for Today: Overcast and almost warm…

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to prep our lunch. Mark and Nerushan set the table. Nerushan also spun dried the lettuce. Rebeca , Nerissa and Amena ( The Girlz ) prepped the garnish for the salad as well as the celery for the Sheppard’s Pie. Fahim browned the beef, sweated the onions and celery. Brandon and Matthew peeled the potatoes as helping out with clean up ( without being asked ! ) Shakur washed the lettuce n\and broke it up.

Period B: We continued with the lunch prep. ( It was a lot of work ! ) We then iced the birthday cake.

Period C: We cleaned the dishes and the kitchen. We then celebrated Rebeca and Fahim’s birthday with Chocolate Cake It was delicious. When we were done all we had time for was writing our Daily Report.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. Once again we continued work on our Paper Mache projects.

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We made a shopping list for our lunch tomorrow. We will be having Sheppard’s Pie Garden Salad and Chocolate Cake for dessert. We then went to No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrows lunch.

Period B: When we got back to school we went to the ME Kitchen to unload the groceries. We also made the Chocolate Cake for tomorrow. We then had some Hot Chocolate.

Period C: We used the IWB to look up different types of Guyanese food. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued work on our Paper Mache birds and butterflies.

Period A: Mr. Makan will be away for the rest of the month. Mr. Iluyomade will be covering for him. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We wrote in our Weekend Journals. Because we had been away for 2 weeks Mr. Wilkens asked us to write at least 5 sentences.

Period B: We presented our journals to the class. We then used the IWB to do a Money Math activity.

Period C: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued to work on our Paper Mache birds and butterflies.
