Daily Report for Friday September 30th 2016

Weather for Today: Overcast, Windy and Cool….

HIGH : 18°C                  LOW : 14°C                  P.O.P. : 40%

Period A: We went to the ME Kitchen to prepare our lunch. Today we had Macaroni and Cheese with Garden Salad. Keyur, Shakur and Fahim grated the cheese. Rebeca, Nerissa and Emily cut up the garnish for the salad. Matthew washed and spun dried the lettuce. Joel and Mark set the table. Keyur made up the Apple Juice.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. We played a computer game together where we guessed coordinates on a grid. The game was sort of like Battleship.  We also had some time to work on individual educational programs.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen where we had our dessert of Fruit Salad. We then all helped out in cleaning the kitchen and doing the dishes. We then went back to our classroom where we did a special Mindfulness exercise known as a  Body Scan.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We came back to class and filled in the Daily Report . We did not have a sit as we did the body scan in period C.

Note to Parents: We will be going to the YMCA on Monday. Students need to bring running shoes and gym wear.

Daily Report for Thursday September 29th 2016

Weather for Today: Rainy, Windy and Cool….

Period A: Today we are having a special schedule with shortened periods so we can have our Terry Fox Run. We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then watched a video about Sri Lanka. We learned that Sri Lanka was famous for its tea and for having a lot of elephants. Some of the elephants in Sri Lanka are domesticated and used to carry logs.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. Once again we were learning how to use Google Earth. We looked up some of our home addresses and also looked at our school.

Period C:  We did a literacy activity on the Promethean Board. We took turns using a program that challenged our spelling skills.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had our daily meditation sitting. We then got ready to go on the Terry Fox Run !

Note to Parents : We will be having our Lunch Program tomorrow. Students do not need to bring a lunch.

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness  5 Minutes.

                Current Event Activity using 24 Hours  Newspaper with a worksheet outline for students to fill in with a story of their  choice.

Period B: Computer class with Mr.Infinity in S23.

Period C: Numeracy – Math Worksheets

Period D: Exercise Walk around School yard.

Daily Report for Tuesday September 27th 2016

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Warm….

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We started out with some money math. Mr. Wilkens handed out some plastic coins and bills and we worked on identifying different denominations. At 9:30 we went to S-6 to set the table for the Maplewood Mindfulness Meditation Community Lunch. We then went back to our classroom where we continued to work on money math.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. Today we worked with Goggle Earth. We looked up some of our address’s and also looked at the route we will be taking on the Terry Fox Run on Thursday.

Period C: Ahmed and Keyur went with Ms. McDonald to wash the dishes in S-6. The rest of us came up with a menu and shopping list for Thursday’s Lunch Program. We will be having Macaroni and Cheese with Garden Salad. When Ahmed and Keyur returned to class we had our weekly Drama activity. We played two games of Musical Chairs and then we did our Circle Dance activity.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A:Today is a Staff Meeting Day schedule with shortened periods.  We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We had Circle Time where we talked about what we had done over the weekend. We then wrote in our Weekend Journals.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. We then worked on individual educational programs. We used the Lego figure to work on directions. Today instead of a physical grid we used a paper grid.

Period C: We continued work on writing in our Weekend Journals. We then presented our journals to the class

Period D: We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday, September 23rd 2016

Weather for Today: Cloudy with Rain and Cooler….

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes.  We began by using the Promethean Board to do some patterning activities. Shakur did very well ! At   9 :30 we went to the gym to play Dodge ball. It was a special event to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. Today we continued to work on directions by using a Lego person to move around on a physical grid.  We then had time to work on individual educational programs.

Period C: As we did not have time to make our dessert yesterday, today we made some Chocolate Chip Cookies. We learned about measurement and following a recipe. Mr. Wilkens baked the cookies in the ME Kitchen and we got to eat them while we were doing this Daily Report.

Period D: We filled in the daily report.  While we were doing the report there was a “Hold and Secure Drill” . We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Thursday September 22nd 2016

Weather for Today: Sunny and Hot….

Period A: We went to the ME Kitchen to prepare our Lunch. Today we had Pizza and Caesar Salad. Emily prepped the lettuce. Rebeca sliced the mushrooms. The Sasitharan brothers and Keyur set the table. Ahmed and Fahim cut up the sweet peppers. Shakur and Matthew grated the mozzarella cheese. Then we all got to make our own personal pizza. 

  

Period B:  We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. Once again we learned about using the mouse. We also had time to work on individual educational programs.

Period C: Keyur and Fahim started their co-op placement at Dollarama. They stocked some shelves with different merchandise  The rest of us began by meeting in the ME kitchen to clean up from our lunch. We all got a chance to help with the dishes and general clean up. We then went back to the classroom where we did some literacy activities on the Promethean Board.   

Period D: We went for a walk around the school. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday September 20th 2016

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. Mr. Wilkens then gave us a little review as to how to sit in meditation. We then watched a couple of short video’s on the benefits of meditation. We then went to S-6 to help set the table for the lunch time meeting of the Maplewood Mindfulness Community. When we got back to class we did some money math activities on the Promethean Board.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. We played a computer game that helped us learn how to navigate with the mouse. We then had time to work on individual educational programs.

Period C: Ms. McDonald took Nerissa and Rebecca to S-6 to help with the dishes from the mindfulness meeting. The rest of the class worked on some puzzles on the Promethean Board. When the girls got back from S-6 we had our weekly Drama activity. We played two games of musical chairs and then did our Circle Dance activity.

Period D: We went for a walk around the school. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We started out with Circle Time where we talked about what we had done over the weekend. At 9:30 we went to the Cafeteria for the Terry Fox Assembly. At the assembly we learned about the school’s fund raising activities for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. Today we learned how to draw using Microsoft Word. We drew different  shapes such as squares, diamonds and hearts. We also had some time to work on different educational programs of our choice.

Period C: We began with Mr. Wilkens giving us a review lesson on how and what to write in our weekend journal’s. We then all wrote in our journal’s about what we had done over the weekend. When we had all finished we presented our journal’s to the class.

Period D: We went for a walk around the school property. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We did some numeracy activities. Using the blackboard Mr. Wilkens had us answer some addition problems. We then did some addition worksheets. At 10:00 we went to the cafeteria to have our pictures taken.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in Room S-23. We played a computer game about honey bees. We also had some time to work on individual educational programs.

Period C: We used the Promethean Board to write a story together as a class. We used an online story generator which helped us to write a story about Mark and Emily. It turned out to be a very funny story.

Period D: We went for walk outside around the school. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting

Daily Report for Thursday September 15th 2016

Weather for Today: Sunny and Warm….

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the ME Kitchen to prepare our lunch. Today we had Spaghetti with Meatballs, Caesar Salad and Garlic Bread. Emily and Rebeca made the meatballs. Keyur made the juice and our dessert of Cherry Jello Fahim washed and dried the lettuce for the salad. Matthew and Ahmed set the table. Shakur helped with clean up. Mark and Joel buttered the Garlic Bread.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. We then went to S 14 to continue with the cleaning of the room. Some of us got to bring some old art work home.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen and had our dessert of Cherry Jello. We then all helped out with doing the dishes and cleaning up the kitchen. We then came back to our classroom where we used the Promethean Board to do some patterning activities. We then went outside for a walk.

Period D: We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow  is School Photo Day. Have students dress appropriately. 

Daily Report for Wednesday September 14th 2016

Weather for Today: Rain, then Sunny and Warm….

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We did our Current Events Activity. Mr. Wilkens showed us how to choose an article from the Metro paper and then use the article to answer the four W questions on our worksheets. We then all filled in our worksheets. When we had finished the worksheet’s we presented our work to the class.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. We then worked on a computer game that we are going to learn how to program. We also had time to work on different educational programs.

Period C: We came up with a menu for tomorrow’s lunch. We will be having Spaghetti and Meatballs. We then created a shopping list so Mr. Wilkens can buy what we need for lunch. We then did an art activity. We used the Promethean Board to look at pictures of fall colors and then we did some fall coloring pages. We put some of our work up on the bulletin board.

Period D: We went for a short walk outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is our Lunch Program. Students do not need a lunch.

Period A: The window in our room was being installed today so we had to go to another class for the morning. We went to S-11B. We worked on money math today. We used some plastic money to work on different amounts. Today we used some bills as well as coins.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in Room S-23. We worked on some computer games to learn about the different ways of controlling the computer. Today we mostly focused on using the mouse.

Period C: We had our Drama activity today. We began a few games of Musical Chairs. We then talked about feelings and emotions. We then did an activity where we acted out different emotions.

Period D: We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A: Mr. Wilkens was away today and we had Mr. Osborne as our teacher. It was a Staff Meeting schedule day so we had short periods. We did our weekend journals by writing about what we had done over the weekend.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in Room S-23. Today we continued working on our Personal Information which we entered in using Microsoft Word.

Period C: We used the Promethean Board to read a story. Then Mr. Osborne asked us some questions about the story.

Period D: We filled in the daily report. Instead of a sitting we watched a video about Anapana Meditation.

Daily Report for Friday September 9th 2016

Weather for Today: Sunny and HOT !!!

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes.  Today we made some Chocolate Chip Cookies. Mr. Wilkens used the Promethean Board to find a recipe for us to use. We watched Mr. Wilkens add the different ingredients and show us how to measure different ingredients. Then we all got a chance to portion out the cookies.  

  

Period B: We went to S23 for our Computer class. Today we had some time to work on different educational programs. We then used the Word program to practice our personal information.,

Period C: At the beginning of the period we got eat the Chocolate Chip Cookies we had made earlier. We got to have 2 cookies each ! We then watched a video that told us about  Eid ul Adha.  Two of the students in our class will be celebrating this holiday on the weekend and on Monday as well. Because we will be going to the Corn Roast this afternoon we then filled in the daily report. We then had a short  Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We went to the school wide Corn Roast.

Daily Report for Thursday September 8th 2016

Weather for Today: Sunny and HOT !!!

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to prepare our lunch. Emily and Rebecca cut up some radishes and peppers for salad garnish. Matthew and Ahmed cut up the carrots. Fahim and Keyur cut up some celery. The whole class got to make their own Grilled Cheese sandwiches. Fahim opened up the cans of Tomato soup and put it in a pot to be heated up.

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. Mr. Infinity showed us how to use Google Earth to look a Maplewood school as well as our houses. We then had some time to work on various educational programs.

Period C: After eating our lunch in the ME Kitchen we went to the cafeteria to socialize. We then met back  in the kitchen to clean up. Everybody had a chance to help out with the clean up. We then came back to our classroom where we worked on Numeracy activities on the Promethean Board. We then went outside for a short walk to try and cool down.

Period D: We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday September 7th 2016

Weather for Today: Hot and Sunny…..

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did some Money Math. Mr. Wilkens gave out some plastic coins and we learned about identifying and adding up different coins. We then used the Promethean Board to do some more Money exercises.  

Period B: We met Mr. Infinity in S-23. We worked on various educational programs.

Period C: We used the Promethean Board to do some work on Literacy. We did some spelling games and also worked on our letter recognition skills, We then went outside for a walk to try to cool off, though it was even hotter outside than in the classroom.

Period D: We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: We will be having our first Lunch Program meal tomorrow. Students do not need to bring a lunch.

Period A:We greeted each other. We met our Educational  Assistant , Mr. Kanti Makan. We were assigned our new lockers. We were given a package of forms to bring home to be signed. We also received our Student Agendas.

Period B: There was a little confusion about what classroom we were supposed to go to but in the end we went to room S23 and met our new teacher Mr. Infinity. He will be working with us while we learn about computer and media literacy. Today we spent most of the period getting logged on and then we were given some free time.

Period C: We had a classroom discussion about our summer holidays. We wrote in our Journals about what we had done over the summer holidays.

Period D: We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.
