Daily Report for Thursday April 30th 2015

The Weather Today was:  Sunny and Cool.

LOW:   7°C                               HIGH: 15°C            P.O.P 30%

In Class Today: Ms. Benyarko was at a workshop in the morning. Mr. Wilkens is at the workshop this afternoon.

Period 1: We began as usual with the rhythm warm up. Satesh and Sheryl was there so they led the exercise together we then got to play on the drum set. Then we all got a chance to sing along to songs Mr. Jones called up on the computer. And had free time.

Period 2: We did our final lunch prep, finishing off what we had started yesterday. Ibby and Issham worked together to help set the table. Shaggie grated the cheese.  Aaron made the limeade and mixed the coleslaw Ralph  washed the tomatoes.

   

Period 3: We had some birthday Cake and ice cream because it is our good friend Laven’s 21st. birthday.Here is a Video of the class singing happy birthday to Laven……. 

  After that we did current events. We had a supply teacher, Mr. So, as Mr. Wilkens was getting professional development training in ABA lesson planning in the afternoon.

Period 4: We did classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. Then Ralph  lead the students in meditation.

Daily Report for Wednesday April 29th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny with a few clouds and Warm….

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began as usual with the rhythm warm up. Satesh was there so he led the exercise. We then got to play on the drum set. Then we all got a chance to sing along to songs Mr. Jones called up on the computer. Near the end of the period we had a Fire Drill.

Period 2: We walked to the local No Frills to buy groceries for tomorrow’s lunch program. We will be having Mexican food. We bought tortillas, taco shells, ground beef, cheese, and some vegetables. We also bought some Limeade for our drink. When we got back to class we put away the groceries and got ready for lunch.  

Period 3: Since we have music in period 1 we had to do some of our food prep for tomorrow’s lunch today. Jaran and Ibby peeled and grated some carrots. Kabilan and Shagee grated the cheese. Issham washed the lettuce. Ralph, Stafhan. Robert and Laven cut up vegetables. Aaron was in charge of the clean-up.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily mindfulness meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday April 28th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and WARM !!!

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began as usual with the rhythm warm up. Satesh was there so he lead the exercise. We then got to play on the drum set. Then we all got a chance to sing along to songs Mr. Jones called up on the computer.

Period 2: We filled in our weekend journal  with what we had done the past weekend. Then we all presented our journal entries to the class. We also came up with this week’s spelling list. This week’s words have to do with gardening.

Period 3: While we were waiting for Aaron and Ms. Moses to get back from Aaron’s co-op placement we reviewed and learned about some of the spelling words. Did you know that some people eat earthworm’s as food ? When Aaron and Ms. Moses returned we took advantage of the beautiful weather and walked to the Guild Inn Park. The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cool….

In Class Today:

Period 1: Today we started out with our usual rhythm exercise. Today Aaron led the exercise and we kept time by stamping our feet. We then voted on whether to do a sing along or play the drums, we voted for the sing along.

Period 2: As we usually do during a Staff Meeting day, we watched a movie. Today we watched a movie called Drumline.

Period 3: We continued to watch the movie.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had just enough time for a short sitting.

Daily Report for Friday April 24th 2015

The Weather Today was:  Sunny and Cool…

In Class Today:

Period 1: Once again we began with the rhythm exercise. We then got to play on the drum set with accompaniment from Satesh. We then sang along to songs that Mr. Jones called up on the computer.

Period 2: We began the period with our weekly spelling test. This week’s spelling words were about things we found on a nature walk last week. The class did quite well on the test with over half the class scoring perfect !  After the spelling test we went to a Yoga class led by Mr. Tipoff. It was quite relaxing as well as being good for our flexibility.

Period 3: We went to the computer lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: Monday is a short staff meeting day. Bus p/u at 12:15.

Daily Report for Thursday April 23rd 2015

The Weather Today was: Cloudy with Sunny breaks and quite cool…

In Class Today:

Period 1: Once again we began class with a rhythm exercise where we kept time by slapping our desks. Then we got to play the drum set along with Satesh. Mr. Jones then called up different songs on the internet which we were able to sing along with. This time we even did some duet singing.

Period 2: We did the food preparation for our lunch. Jaran, Laven, Kabilan and Aaron prepped the garnish for the garden salad. Issham washed and spun dried the lettuce for the salad. Shagee and Stafhan set the table. Ralph made the fruit punch. We had a fine lunch of Chicken Burgers, French Fries with Garden Salad.

Period 3: We did our current event activity. We all chose an article/picture from the Metro paper and filled in our worksheets. When we had finished we presented our findings to the class. We then got to eat our dessert of Strawberry Jello.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday April 22nd 2015

The Weather Today was: Hail, Rain, Overcast and Cool….

In Class Today:

Period 1: We started out with a clapping rhythm activity. We then got to play along on the drum set. Once again Mr. Jones called up our choice of music videos that we got sing along to.

Period 2: While some of the students went to a Healthy Sexuality presentation in the Library the rest of the class did a level 2 co-op experience in honour of Earth Day. We put on gloves and took garbage bags outside where we picked up waste to help keep our school neighbourhood clean. Here are some pictures of us doing the clean up.

Period 3: This period we were able to do the final step in making our latest ceramic project. We all got to glaze our ceramic Jewelry Boxes . Here is a picture of us working on our ceramic projects.

Daily Report for Friday April 17th 2015

The Weather Today was: Partly Cloudy and Warm….

In Class Today:

Period 1: We started a brand new class today. Mr. Jones is our music teacher. Today in music class we a rhythm exercise, which we all did well at according to Mr. Jones. We then watched Mr. Jones and  a co-op student  play the drums. Then we all got a chance to play the drums also. It was a lot of fun !

Period 2: To start out we had our spelling test. This week’s list was about television shows. We then had review of where to put away things like cups, pots and pans, bowls and dishes. At the end of the period we did a math drill.

Period 3: At first we came up with our weekly spelling list a little early. Using some of the materials from nature that we had collected last Tuesday we created a list of 10 words and a bonus word.

Period 4: Mr. Wilkens had baked some delicious Cinnamon Buns to celebrate the arrival of a new (to our class) student, Issham. We sat down and ate the buns. We then did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We finished up with a short meditation sitting.

 Note to Parents: We will be going swimming at the YMCA on Monday. Students need towel and swim wear.

Daily Report for Tuesday April 21st 2015

The Weather Today was: Cloudy , Rainy and cool….

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began our music class by doing a rhythm exercise where we kept a beat by slapping our hands on our desks. We then got to play on the drum kit accompanied by Satesh. Mr. Jones then used his computer to play some music videos that we sang along to.

Period 2: We went to the local No Frills to buy the groceries for Thursday’s Lunch Program. We bought some hamburger rolls, chicken patties, lettuce and some fruit punch. We also bought some strawberry Jello. On the way back to school it was raining but not too much so we did not get very wet.

Period 3: We wrote in our weekend journals. After we had finished writing in our journals we presented what we had written to the class.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

The Weather Today was: Rainy and Cool….

In Class Today:

Period 1: In music today we started out by playing the drum set while Satesh, a co-op student working with Mr. Jones, accompanied us on another drum set. Then we all got to introduce ourselves. Then we did some rhythm exercises.

The rest of the day we went on our weekly trip to the YMCA. We took the TTC to the Y, this week was our time for swimming. After swimming in the pool we went to eat lunch in the Food Court at the Scarborough Town Centre. We then walked around the Town Centre for a while before commit back to school on the TTC.

When we got back to school we had just enough time to fill in the daily report and have a short sitting.

Daily Report for Friday April 17th 2015

The Weather Today was: Partly Cloudy and Warm….

In Class Today:

The Weather Today was: Partly Cloudy  and Warm…

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period one we all were very busy doing food prep for our big lunch. Stafhan, Shagee and Kabilan peeled the potatoes for the mashed potatoes. Jaran, Laven and Robert cut up the salad garnish of celery, tomatoes, cucumber and radish. Aaron prepped the Oven baked Fried Chicken by washing it. Dipping it in egg wash and then coating it with the bread crumb and spice mixture. Ibby washed and spun dried the lettuce. Ralph set the table. Here are some pictures of us working on the meal….

Period 2 & 3: We were still working on our food prep at the beginning of the period ( it was a short period day today ) but when we were done we all did our current event activity. We ate lunch a little early. Here is a picture of the great meal that we got to enjoy….

Period 4: We started out by having our dessert of Fruit Cocktail and Ice Cream. We then did our classroom jobs, filled in the daily report and finished up with a meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday April 15th. 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Warm….

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the art room to continue work on our latest ceramic project, a Jewelry Box.  Today we used slip to reinforce the joints in the box. We also put handles on the lids. The boxes are drying out and soon Mr. Wilkens will bisque fire them so that we can glaze them.

Period 2: The class walked to the local No Frill to buy groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. We bought some chicken, ingredients for salad and some fruit salad for dessert. When we got back to class we put away the groceries then got ready to go to lunch.

Period 3: Because tomorrow is a short day for the MID students, there will be no food service. So we spent the period cleaning the kitchen and taking our name tags off our hats and the cubby’s where we kept our kitchen uniforms. Tomorrow will be our last class in Food School and on Friday we will be starting music with Mr. Jones.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in our daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday April 14th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Warm…a beautiful day !

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period one today we wrote in our weekend journal. We all wrote about what we did over the past weekend. When we had finished writing our journals we each presented them to the class. We also created our weekly spelling list. This week’s list was about television.

Period 2: We had our weekly drama activity. We started out with the usual session of musical chairs. Ralph won the first game while Stafhan won the second round. After this we tried out a new activity suggested by Ms. Williams. This activity allowed us to practice our listening skills. We played a game of Simon Says. It went pretty well, though some of us need to work on our skills of listening.

Period 3: Since our regular teacher was away today we were not able to work in the kitchen. Instead, we took advantage of the excellent weather to go outside for an exploration of the world of nature. We found a number of things like pine cones, bark and twigs which we will use later to make connections with nature.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

The Weather Today was: Partly Cloudy and Warm…

Today we went on our weekly trip to the Y.M.C.A. We took the TTC to the Y and when we got there we went upstairs to the indoor track where we walked for 2 miles ! When we had finished walking around the track we went downstairs where we all did 15 minutes on the treadmill.  We then went to the Food Court at Scarborough Town Centre to eat lunch. After lunch we went to Walmart where Ms. Benyarko bought a fitness elastic. We took the TTC back to school. We did our classroom jobs, filled in the daily report and ended our day with our daily meditation sitting.

The Weather Today was: Overcast and warmer…

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period one we had our weekly visit to the Computer lab. We worked on a variety of educational programs.

Period 2: We began the period by doing a word search consisting of words from our weekly spelling list. We then did a test of our spelling. This week the words were about Easter, and the class as a whole did very well. When we had finished the test we used the whiteboard to do some math drills.

Period 3: Since it was a Friday we did not have any food prep to do. We spent most of the period cleaning the kitchen and we also delivered some food orders.

Period 4: We finished off our math drill exercise. We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: We will be going to the YMCA on Monday. Students need gym wear.

The Weather Today was: Rainy and Very Cool….

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period 1 today we did the food prep for our Lunch Program. Today we were having Submarine Sandwich’s with Fries. Laven and Robert sliced the tomatoes and onions. Robert also sliced the salami. Jaran made the fruit punch. Aaron made the chocolate icing for his ( and Ralph’s ) birthday cake. Kabilan washed the lettuce. Stafhan and Ibby set the table. We then all made our own Subs. Ralph sliced the sub buns, Here are some pictures of us prepping and eating our delicious lunch…

Period 2: We still had a little prep to do in period 2, but when we were finished we did our current event activity. We choose articles from the Metro newspaper and filled in our worksheets.

Period 3: There was not a lot of work to do in the kitchen today so after we had finished with some kitchen clean up we went for a walk around the school  property.

Period 4: We began the period by having  some Chocolate birthday cake. We had two birthday`s to celebrate. Ralph`s birthday was last Saturday and Aaron`s birthday was on Monday. Here is a video of us singing Happy Birthday to the boyz !

Daily Report for Wednesday April 8th 2015

The Weather Today was: Rain and Cold…

In Class Today:

Period 1: In first period we went to the Art Room to continue work on our latest ceramic project. Today we attached the clay pieces that we had cut last week to make the jewelry boxes. With help from Mr. Stolte, Ms. Benyarko and Mr. Wilkens we did some further cutting of the clay and then scratched and attached the pieces. Here are some pictures of us working on our projects…

Period 2: Because the weather forecast for the next two days is rain and more rain Mr. Wilkens decided to deliver the Bluffs Monitor papers today. When we went out to deliver the papers it was pretty miserable but at least it was not raining too hard. We got all of the papers delivered in record time!  When we got back to class we continued to work on our Four  Food Group exercise. We managed to finish our chart for the Four Food Groups.

Period 3: In food school we had another busy day. We all worked on peeling and cutting up a whole lot of sweet potatoes. Ibrahim helped to clean as well as wash some kale.

Daily Report for Tuesday April 7th 2015

The Weather Today was: Overcast and quite Cool….

In Class Today:

Period 1: The class walked to the local No Frills to do the grocery shopping for Thursday’s Lunch Program. We are going to be having Submarine Sandwich’s with French Fries. We bought some cold cuts, sub buns, frozen French fries. We made very good time on our shopping trip today getting there and back in only 45 minutes.   

Period 2: In period we wrote in our Weekend Journal about what we did over the long weekend. When we had all finished our journal entries we then presented our journals to the class. We also came up with our weekly spelling words. This week’s words are about Easter.

Period 3: We had a busy day in Food school today. Stafhan, Laven and Kabilan grated mozzarella cheese for tomorrow’s pizza. Aaron and Robert peeled a lot of Sweet potatoes. Ibrahim used the French fry cutter to make fries. Ralph helped to clean.  At the end of the period we got another treat when we were given some fries to eat.

Daily Report for Thursday April 2nd. 2015

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Warmer…

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period 1 we were busy doing food prep for our special Easter Feast. Robert, Laven and Stafhan cut up celery, carrots, cucumber and tomatoes for salad garnish. Kabilan and Aaron peeled potatoes for the mashed potatoes. Ibrahim  washed some more lettuce for the salad.

 Period 2: We finished off the food prep and then we did our Current Event activity. We learned about basketball players and an artificial arm created by a three dimensional printer. After the class had finished presenting their articles it was time to sit down to our Easter Feast. We had Roast Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Corn and Sage Dressing. Period 3: Since today is the beginning of a long weekend there was not a lot to do in food school. To take advantage of the spring like weather we all went on a long power walk with a number of other classes. Before we went for the walk were treated to some Easter chocolate by our teacher.

Period 4: We all got to enjoy a dessert of Brownies and Ice Cream. The brownies, made by Aaron, were delicious. We then did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We then had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday April 1st 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Cool….

In Class Today:

Period 1: The class went to the Art Room where we began our latest Ceramic project. We are going to be making ceramic jewelry boxes. Today we cut out the top, bottom and sides and smoothed out the pieces. We then did a great job cleaning up.

Period 2: Since we will be having a special Easter feast tomorrow, we did some of the food prep today. Ibrahim and Ralph washed and spun dried the lettuce for the salad. Stafhan and Laven had the tearful job of chopping onions for the stuffing. Jaran, Robert, Shagee and Kabilan cut up celery for the stuffing. Aaron had the challenging task of making the Brownies which we will be having for dessert. Here are some pictures of us doing the food prep…..

Once we had finished with our food prep tasks we did an exercise on the whiteboard about Canada’s Food Guide and the four food groups.

Period 3: We had another busy day in food school. Aaron and Laven washed and stored some potatoes. The rest of us did a very thorough job of cleaning the kitchen.

Period 4: At the start of the period Mr. Wilkens assigned us our new classroom jobs for the month. We then did our new jobs. We then filled in the daily report. We finished off the day with our daily meditation sitting.
