Daily Report for Tuesday March 31st. 2015


The Weather Today was: Partly cloudy and cold….

LOW : -3°C                            HIGH :  5°C                  P.O.P. : 20%

In Class Today:

Period 1: The class went to the library for a special presentation on the Passport Mentoring Initiative. This is a program which will help us explore ideas for our future after leaving Maplewood. We received an application form which we are bringing home so our parents can help us fill it out. We then did our weekly trip to No Frills to buy the groceries for Thursday’s lunch. We bought a turkey, some potatoes as well as some frozen corn. We will be having a delicious Easter Luncheon on Thursday.

Period 2: We got back from our trip to No Frills half way through the period. This left us plenty of time for our weekly Drama activities. We played a few games of Musical Chairs and ten we did the circle dance activity.

Period 3: We had a busy day in Food school today. Some of us cut up a variety of vegetables while others helped to clean up. At the end of the period we once again got a special treat, this time it was delicious Chilli Fries !

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday March 30th 2015


The Weather Today was: Partly Cloudy and Cold….

In Class Today:

Period 1: Since today was a Short Staff Meeting day we got to do our usual movie watching. Today we saw Night at the Museum 3. It was a good movie. While we were watching the movie we got to eat some popcorn.

Period 2: We continued to watch the movie.

Period 3: In food school today we did a number of different things. Some of us cut up carrots. We also prepped some spinach for salad plates. WE also did some clean up of the kitchen. At the end of the period we all got a special treat, Strawberry Smoothies !

Period 4: We finished watching Night at the Museum 3. We filled in the daily report.

Daily Report for Friday March 27th 2015


The Weather Today was: Overcast, some rain and Cold…

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period one the class went for our weekly visit to the computer lab. While we were there we worked on various educational programs.

Period 2: At the beginning of period two Aaron and Ralph, our SAC representatives, did an activity with the class where they discussed healthy food choices, with an emphasis on breakfast choices. They then led a vote on what preferences we had for possible changes to the Breakfast Club menu. The most popular choice , with 7 votes, was Egg McMaplewood sandwich’s. After we had finished with this activity we used the whiteboard to learn about Canada’s Food Guide and healthy food choices.

Period 3: Since today was Friday we did not have any food prep to do. We spent the period cleaning the kitchen. At the end of the period we got to eat some oven baked French Fries as a treat. They were delicious!

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We finished off our day with our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Thursday March 26th 2015


The Weather Today was: Cold and Rainy….

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period one today we made our lunch. Today we had Macaroni and Cheese along with a Garden Salad. Kabilan and Shagee grated the cheddar cheese. Jaran, Robert, Laven and Stafhan cut up the garnish for the salad. Ralph showed Ibby how to prep the lettuce by washing it and putting it through the lettuce spinner. Stafhan and Robert also helped to set the table. Aaron made a batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies, which we had for dessert.

Period 2: We finished up the lunch prep and then we did our Current Event activity. Since we were eating lunch a little early we did not have time to present our findings but we all got our worksheets done. We ate our lunch at 11:00 and then cleaned up the classroom before going to the cafeteria for the lunch period.

Period 3: We had a busy period in food school today. Firstly we all worked at peeling carrots then cutting them up and putting them in containers. Then some of us worked at making French Fries by washing and scrubbing potatoes and cutting using a French fry cutter. Those of us who were not working on the fries helped to clean up the kitchen.  


Period 4: When we got back to our classroom we sat down and enjoyed the delicious cookies that Aaron had made earlier. We then did our classroom jobs, filled in the daily report and finished up with our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday March 25th 2015


The Weather Today was: Cold with rain showers…

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period one we walked to Food Basic’s to do our shopping for tomorrow’s lunch. We bought cheddar cheese, macaroni, lettuce, carrots, celery and tomato’s. We also bought some chocolate chips to make Chocolate Chip Cookies for dessert.

Period 2: We started out the period with our weekly drama activity. We played three games of Musical Chairs and Aaron won all three games ! We then did the circle dance activity and ended up with a game of Sports Charades. We then did some math drills on the whiteboard. We went to a site that had an addition drill which scored our efforts. We had used this site before and kept a record of our scores. Most of the students were able to improve their scores.

Period 3: In food school we did not have that busy a day. We washed and scrubbed some potatoes and helped to clean up the kitchen.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We finished off the math drill activity that we had done in period two. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday March 24th 2015


The Weather Today was: Sunny and Cold…

In Class Today:

Period 1: Today we started out by writing in our weekend journals. This week we wrote about what we had done during the March Break. When we finished writing in our journals we each presented what we had written to the class. We then created our weekly spelling words list. The words for this week were about Spring.

Period 2: In period today we did an activity that was suggested to us by Ms. Moses, one of the college students that is working in our class. Ms. Moses spoke about different kinds of flags. She handed out a flag template and asked us to draw a flag which represented things about us and some of the things that make us happy. We all made unique flags.

Period 3: Today was a special day in the Food School. It was Ms. Seccareccia’s birthday. We all got some chocolate treats and sang happy birthday. Then we got to work. Some of us cut up vegetables for tomorrow’s pizza while others helped to clean up.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday March 23rd 2015


The Weather Today was: Sunny and Cold…..

LOW : - 12°C                HIGH : - 2°C                 P.O.P. : 10%

Today we went to the Scarborough Y.M.C.A. for our weekly fitness session. We took the TTC to the Y, this week Ms. McDonald’s class came to the Y on the same bus as us. When we got there we went to the change room to change into our gym wear. We then went upstairs to the indoor track where we walked for 14 laps. This equals a distance of one mile ! ( or 1.6 k ) After we had done our power walking we changed in to our swimming suits and went for a swim in the pool. Aaron, Jaran, Robert and Ralph all did some great swimming. We will have to make sure they all come out for the Swim Meet at Rosedale Heights in May ! After our refreshing swim we got changed back min to our clothes and went to the food court at Scarborough Town Centre to eat our lunch. We then took the TTC back to school. When we got back to school we did our classroom jobs, filled in the daily report and had our daily meditation sitting.


Note to Parents: Ibrahim’s father has very graciously offered to buy a pizza lunch for the class to celebrate Ibby’s 21st Birthday tomorrow. No need to send in a lunch tomorrow.

Daily Report for Thursday March 12th 2015


The Weather Today was: Clear and Colder…..

In Class Today:

Period 1: We had a busy first period. We were preparing our lunch. Laven sliced the pepperoni. Robert  cut up the green peppers. Jaran cleaned and sliced some mushrooms. Stafhan sliced some onions. Kabilan and Shagee grated the mozzarella cheese. Ibby set the table and made the fruit punch. Ralph washed, spun dried and broke up the lettuce for the Caesar Salad. Aaron had an especially challenging job. He made the crumble topping and peeled and cut up the apples for the Apple Crumble Pie. Once we had gotten all the initial prep done we all took turns creating our own pizzas.

Period 2: Once we had finished cleaning up we all did our Current event activity. When we had finished we sat down for an early lunch. The pizzas were delicious !

Period 3: In food school today we had another busy period. We cut up some carrots, peppers and carrots.  We think these might be for the party tomorrow in Ms. McDonalds class. We also helped to clean up the kitchen.

Period 4: We started out by having our dessert, the scrumptious pie that Aaron had made. Then we did our classroom jobs. We finished up the day with our daily meditation.

Daily Report for Wednesday March 11th. 2015


The Weather Today was: Mainly Sunny and Milder…..

LOW : 2°C                    HIGH : 8°C                   P.O.P. : 10%

In Class Today:

Period 1: The first thing we did today was walk to our local No Frills to buy groceries for tomorrow`s lunch. We are going to be having homemade Pizza and Caesar Salad. We bought some pita bread for the pizza crust. We also purchased green peppers, mozzarella cheese, mushrooms and tomato’s. We also purchased some Granny Smith Apples so we can make an apple pie for dessert.

Period 2: In this period we put the finishing touches on current ceramic project, St. Patrick`s Day Candleholders. Mr. Wilkens had bisque fired the holders and today we applied the glaze. We used two different types of green glaze. Here are some pictures of us working on our ceramic projects.

Period 3: In food school today we did some food prep. Laven, Shagee, Aaron and Ralph peeled and seeded some squash. Robert, Stafhan and Jaran peeled some carrots. Ibby was washing some celery. Kabilan was at his co-op placement. When we were done the food prep we all helped to clean up.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We finished off the day with our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday March 10th 2015


The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cool…

In Class Today:

Period 1: The class went outside to deliver the Bluffs Monitor community newspaper in the local neighbourhood. When we got back from delivering the papers we wrote in our weekend journals. When we had all finished our journals we presented them to the class.

Period 2: We worked together to come up with this week’s spelling words. The words for this week are all about St. Patrick’s Day. After we had come up with the words we wrote out 5 sentences using different spelling words. We had been invited to a St. Patrick’s Day Lunch and Party by Ms. Appleton’s class so we went to the Partnership Room a little early.

Period 3: In Food School today we did some food prep for tomorrow’s pizza lunch. Aaron, Jaran, Laven and Robert cut up vegetables for the pizza garnish. Kabilan and Stafhan grated mozzarella cheese. Ibby helped to clean the dishes, including the dishes from the lunch party we were at.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We finished off with daily meditation.

Daily Report for Monday March 9th 2015


The Weather Today was: Sunny and Warmer….

LOW : -2°C                            HIGH : 5°C                             P.O.P : 10%

Today we went to the YMCA. We took the TTC to the Scarborough YMCA. When we arrived we went upstairs to the indoor track. We walked around the track 28 times for a grand total of 2 miles walking!  When we had done our power walking around the track we went downstairs where we worked out on various fitness equipment. All in all, a healthy day.

After we finished at the Y we walked to the Scarborough Town Centre to eat lunch at the food court. Ms. Moses, one of the co-op students working with our class bought us all some Tim Bits to share. Thanx, Ms. Moses. After lunch we did even more walking, this time around the Scarborough Town Centre. We then took the TTC back to school.

When we got back to school we did our classroom jobs. We then filled in the daily report. We finished off the day with our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday March 6th 2015


The Weather Today was: Mainly Sunny and Cold…

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the computer lab where we all worked on various educational programs. The lab has recently been upgraded and we got to use the new machines which are running Windows 7. 

Period 2: We spent the first part of the period working on an Art project. We made some crinkled tissue paper Shamrocks which we will use to decorate the classroom. In the second half of the period we all went to the cafeteria to have our graduation photos taken. The photographers had white shirts, ties and Graduation gowns that we could borrow so that we looked good for our photos.

Period 3: It being Friday there was not a lot to do in the kitchen today. Aaron, Laven and Ibby took the food cart around the school selling Egg Salad Sandwich’s though not too many buyers were to be had. The class also helped to clean the Staff dining room. Later on in the period we all got to eat some apple slices that Mr. McGregor, the occasional teacher in for Ms. S, gave us. 

Period 4: We began the period by having more to eat. Yesterday’s dessert of Lime Jello was very tasty. We then did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We finished up by having our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Thursday March 5th 2015


The Weather Today was: Mainly Sunny and COLD !

In Class Today:

Period 1: We started out our day by doing the food prep for our regular Thursday lunch. This week we had Hamburger’s, French Fries and Cole Slaw for lunch. Jaran placed the hamburger patties on a baking sheet. Ibby and Robert set the table. Ralph and Kabilan peeled and grated the carrots for the Cole Slaw. Aaron used the electric salad slicer to grate the cabbage for the Cole Slaw. Shagee made the fruit punch. Here are some pictures of us preparing our lunch….






Period 2: Since we did not get a chance to do our weekly Drama activity on Tuesday, we had Drama today. We played three games of musical chairs and since Stafhan was away today we had some different winners. Aaron won two games while Ralph won the other game. During our circle dance activity Aaron made up a new twist to the game whereby  two people got up to dance. We were able to eat our lunch a little early at around 11:00. Here is what our lunch looked like….

Period 3: Ralph and Aaron peeled some squash and stored them in the fridge. Jaran and Kabilan peeled some carrots. Laven was peeling some onions. Ibby cleaned and put away some cutlery. It was a productive day in Food School !

Period 4: We were going to have our dessert but since the Lime Jello had not fully set we will have to have it tomorrow. We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. To end off our day we had our daily meditation sitting.



Note to Parents: Tomorrow is Graduation Photo Day. Students should wear a nice shirt and a tie is you wish.

Daily Report for Wednesday March 4th. 2015


The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold (though not that cold )

LOW : -3°C                   HIGH : 0°C                             P.O.P. : 40%

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the art room to work on our St. Patrick’s day ceramic candle holders. We put on some clay shamrocks and used slip to fill in the joints. Hopefully Mr. Wilkens will be able to bisque fire the pieces this week so that we can glaze them next week.

Period 2: We did our Current event activity. We all picked an article from the Metro paper  and then filled in a worksheet describing the article. After we had all finished our worksheets we presented our findings to the class while Mr. Wilkens used the whiteboard to further investigate what we had learned about. For example, Jaran had chosen an article on a volcano in Chile and we got to see an amazing video of the eruption.

Period 3: We had a great period in food school today. We started out by getting some salad and pizza ! It was very good. After we finished our free food we all helped to clean up the kitchen.

Period 4: We all did our classroom jobs. Then we did some math drills on the whiteboard. Kabilan scored highest on the game. We then filled in the daily report. Finally we had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday March 3rd 2015


The Weather Today was: Overcast with Snow Flurries

In Class Today:

Period 1: In period 1 today we walked to the local No Frills to buy groceries for our lunch on Thursday. We will be having Hamburgers, French Fries and Cole Slaw. We got started a little late because we were waiting for Aaron’s bus to get here so we studied for the spelling test while we waited.

Period 2: After we got back from our trip to No Frills we had our spelling test. This week’s words were about Black History Month. Most of the class did quite well with two perfect papers !

Period 3: We had another busy day in food school getting ready for tomorrows Pizza lunch. Robert, Stafhan and Jaran grated the mozzarella cheese. Kabilan, Ralph and Laven chopped up some vegetables for pizza garnish. Ibby and Shagee helped to clean the kitchen.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. There was a little confusion because we switched the jobs for the month but once everybody figured out their new job it went smoothly. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday March 2nd 2015


The Weather Today was: Partly cloudy and cold….

In Class Today:


Today we did our weekly trip to the Scarborough YMCA. When we got to the Y we started out by going upstairs to the indoor track. We walked around  the track for approx. one mile then went back downstairs where we changed into our swim wear and went to the pool. After swimming in the pool we changed back into our clothes. We then went to the food court at the Scarborough Town Centre to eat our lunch. After lunch we walked around the mall for a while then it was time to head back to school.
