Daily Report for Friday January 30th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Very Cold….

In Class Today:

Period 1: Ms. Benyarko was off sick today so we had a new staff member to cover for her, Miss M a C.Y.W. While Ralph and Jaran went to co-op at Cedar Ridge Creative Centre the rest of the class went to the computer lab where we worked on various educational programs. 

Period 2: In this period we used the whiteboard to do some language activities. We went to a web site that helped us to create three different types of stories. We wrote a fairy story, a horror story and a science fiction story. Then we did a Word Search puzzle.

Period 3: After returning to our classroom to do our dental hygiene we went to our first cooking class of the new term. Our teacher is Ms. Seccareccia and she spoke to us about the rules in the kitchen. Then we were given our uniforms and hats. We took the dishes from today’s lunch  into the dish room to be washed. We also got a treat as today was French Fry day we got to eat the left over fries.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We ran out of time so for homework we will all do a sitting some time this weekend.

Note to Parents: We will be going to the YMCA on Monday. Students will need swim wear and towel as well as gym wear.

Daily Report for Thursday January 29th 2015

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Snowy

In Class Today:

Period 1: We prepared the food for our Lunch Program lunch. Laven, Robert , Jaran and Aaron cut up the vegetables for the Garden Salad. Kabilan washed and spun dried the lettuce. Ibby and Stafhan set the table.

Period 2: Once we had finished with the lunch prep we worked on writing sentence’s using words from our weekly spelling list.

Period 3: In art today we finished off our multimedia Valentine’s Day posters. We used acrylic paint to accent the drawings we made using  pastel crayons.

Period 4: We ate our dessert of Strawberry Jello and fresh baked Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. Then we finished cleaning up from lunch. We then did our classroom jobs and filled in the daily report. Unfortunately we did not have time for a sitting as today was a special schedule day with a Dance for the ISP community.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is the first day of Term 3.

Daily Report for Wednesday January 28th. 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Cold…

In Class Today:

Period 1: This morning we walked to No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. We will be having Hamburgers and French Fries as well as a Garden Salad. It was quite cold but we walked quickly and so did not get too cold.

Period 2: After returning from our trip to No Frills we put away the groceries. We then did our Current Event activity. When we had finished filling in our Current Event worksheets we presented our findings to the class.

Period 3: In art class today we continued work on our Valentine’s Day posters. The posters are a multimedia project combining the use of pastels and acrylic paint.

Period 4: We started out the period by creating our list of spelling words for this week. This week’s words are different animals. We then did our classroom  jobs, filled in the daily report and had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday January 27th 2015

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold.

In Class Today: Mr. Wilkens is at a teachers meeting; today so we have a supply teacher named Mr. Eng.

Period 1: We began class with money math work sheets. Then we reviewed the food spelling words.

Period 2: Ms. Benyarko set up for the teacher’s lunch today while the students were doing the spelling test. Then after that we did drama. We played musical chairs then we the circle dance activity. Then we read the newspaper.

Period 3: We went to the art room to make valentine’s hearts for the beginning of art class then we went to yoga with Mr. Tipoff’s class.

Period 4: We went to the gym to return the yoga mats in the gym. Then we got back to do our class room jobs. Afterwards we did the daily report then Ralph led the class in soft, sweet sitting mediation.

Note to Parents:  dress warmly for tomorrow we are going shopping. Mr. Wilkens will be back tomorrow.  This report was written by Aaron Rohit.

In Class Today:

Since today was a Short / Staff meeting Day we got to watch a movie in class. Today we watched the movie “I am Sam “, a movie about a man with an intellectual disability who is fighting to keep his child from being taken away by Family Services. It was a very good movie and we all enjoyed watching it.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the Computer Lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period 2: We reviewed this week’s spelling words by filling in a worksheet that provided clues about the words. This week’s words are all about  food. When we finished our word review we worked on filling in our personal information. We wrote out our names, addresses and other important information that we need to know.

Period 3: After returning to our classroom to do our dental hygiene we went to the art room. We were all able to finish our Melted Crayon art project. We also got watch a DVD about the planet Earth.  

Period 4 : We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. Then we did a guided meditation .

Note to Parents: Monday is a short day. 12:15 Bus pick up.

Daily Report for Thursday January 22nd 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Cold…

In Class Today:

Period 1: Today we prepared our Lunch Program meal. We made a big pot of Chili Con Carne. Shagge grated the carrots for the Cole Slaw. Kabilan and Stafhan had the tear inducing job of cutting up the onions for the Chili. Robert, Laven, Jaran and Ralph cut up the green peppers and celery. Ibby set the table. The class worked so efficiently that we were done all the prep work in record time! We got to watch a movie called Radio.

Period 2: This period we got to go to a Winter Carnival in the gym. It was put on by the leadership MID students. We got to play various games such as bowling, Frisbee toss and Throw the Chicken thru the Hoop. It was a lot of fun.

Period 3: In art class today we started on the final steps of the Crayon Art Project. We used a hair dryer and a heat gun to melt the crayons, which dripped onto the white boards we had glued the crayons to. Here are some pictures of our amazing art work…..

Period 4 : We had our dessert of Oatmeal Raisin Cookies with Ice Cream. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday January 21st 2015

The Weather Today was: Overcast  and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We did our Current event activity. We all picked an article of interest to us, cut out and pasted a picture from the article on a worksheet and then answered the 5 W questions on the worksheet. When we had finished our worksheets we each presented our findings to the class.

Period 2: We started out with our weekly Drama activity. We usually do Drama on Tuesday but since we were on a field trip yesterday we did Drama today. At the end of the period we used the Whiteboard to do some math and money activities.  

Period 3: In Art today we continued to work on our Crayon works. We hot glued different coloured crayons onto the wooden boards we had previously painted. Tomorrow we will use a hair dryer to partially melt the crayons and create works of art !

Period 4 : We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation.

In Class Today:

This morning the class went on a field trip to the Meta Day Program. Some of the parents of our students came with us.  The program was located near the school, in Highland Creek. We had a tour of the facilities and were given a description of the program. The tour ended in time for us to get back to school for lunch.

Period 3: In art to day we continued work on our Crayon Project. We put another coat of white paint on the wooden boards we are using and next we will be using the crayons to add colour.

Period 4 : We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday January 19th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Cold

In Class Today:

 Today was the first time this year that we were able to go to the YMCA. Unfortunately, when we got the Y this morning we discovered that because of a power failure the YMCA was closed ! Since we had come all the way to the Y we decided to get at least some exercise by walking around the Scarborough Town Centre. So we walked around the mall and then went to the Food Court to eat an early lunch. Aaron and Jaran bought their lunch with Aaron going to Taco Bell and Jaran getting his usual Chicken Nuggets at Miky Dee’s. After we had eaten our lunch we went to the local Freshco store to buy the groceries for Thursday’s lunch. This Thursday we will be having Chili Con Carne with Cornbread and Cole Slaw.

When we got back to school we had time to do our weekend journal. We also created our weekly spelling list. This week’s list is words about  Food. We decided to increase the list to 15 words since everyone did so well on last week’s words.

We filled in the daily report. We did our classroom jobs. We had our daily meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is our Field Trip to the Meta Day Program.

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went for our weekly visit to the Computer Lab. We spent the period working on various educational programs.

Period 2: Today we had our weekly spelling test. This week’s spelling words were about sports. The whole class did very well ! Almost everybody got a perfect score of 11 out of 11.   After we finished the test we went on the Promethean Board and investigated foods from different ethnic origins. Today we looked at food from Sri Lanka and Jamaica.

Period 3: After coming back to class to do our dental hygiene we went to the art room. In art today some finished off our Stained Glass drawings. We also watched a video about foxes and other desert animals.

Period 4 : We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report. Then we finished off our week with a meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: We will be going to the YMCA on Monday. We will be going swimming so students will need to bring swim wear and a towel.

Daily Report for Thursday January 15th 2015

The Weather Today was: Partly cloudy and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We worked on preparing our Lunch. Laven and Robert sliced the onions.  Aaron and Shagee used the apple peeler/slicer and coring machine to prepare the Apple Pie filling. Kabilan and Stafhan cut up the bacon.

Period 2: While Mr. Wilkens and Aaron cooked the Perogies, onions and bacon in the Community Kitchen the rest of the class worked on a crossword puzzle using this week’s spelling words.

Period 3: Since we ate lunch in the classroom we were able to get to the Art room a little early. Today we continued work on our art project using crayons. We painted pieces of wood with latex paint.

Period 4 : We started out by eating our dessert of Apple Pie with Ice Cream. We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. Finally we had our daily meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday January 15th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Cold ( though not as cold as yesterday )

In Class Today:

Period 1: The class braved the cold weather this morning to walk to our local No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow`s Lunch Program lunch. We will be having Perogies with Fried Onions and Bacon (except for Ibby !) , Homemade Coleslaw and Apple Pie for dessert.

Period 2: We did our Current Event activity. We all picked out articles from the Metro paper and filled in the worksheets answering the 5 W questions. When we had finished the worksheets we presented our findings to the class.

Period 3: After we came back to class to do our dental hygiene we went to the Art room. We were busy finishing off different projects and we also continued working with the old crayons. Today we peeled the paper of the crayons so Mr. Stolte could melt them for use in a special art project.( More on this later ! )

Period 4 : We did our classroom jobs. Then we all got to have a freshly baked cinnamon bun. We filled in our daily report. Unfortunately we ran a little overtime doing the report so we did not have time for our daily sit.

Daily Report for Tuesday January 13th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and quite Cold.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We played various money math games on the Interactive White Board. All of the class did very well identifying and adding different coins and bills.

Period 2: We had our regular Tuesday morning Drama activities. First we played three rounds of musical chairs. Aaron won the first two rounds while Ralph was the winner of the final round. We then did our circle dance activity. We finished off with a game of Sports and Animal Charades.

Period 3: After returning to class to do our Dental Hygiene we went to the Art room. We finished off our Stained Glass drawings and then Mr. Stolte had us sort out different colors of crayons. We also made name tags so we could display our Paper Mache bowls in the upcoming Open House Art Tour.

Period 4 : We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report. We then had plenty of time for our daily mediation.

Note to Parents: We will be walking to No Frills for our weekly shopping trip  please make sure the students dress warmly !

Daily Report for Monday January 12^th 2015.

The Weather Today was: Overcast cold and snowing.

In Class Today: We had a supply who’s name is Mr. Sullivan in for Mr. Wilkens while he is away today.

Period 1: We talked about what we did on the weekend. We met our new co-op student and we did our weekend journals.

Period 2: We gave our Co-op student a tour of our school. Then we started the new sports spelling list. We wrote five sentences using our spelling words.

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene. Then we did math on the smart board. Then we went to yoga with Mr. Tipoff’s class.

Period 4: When we got back we returned the mats to the gym and then we got back and did classroom jobs and did the daily report and a skillful sitting.

Note to Parents: Mr. Wilkens will return tomorrow.

Period 1: We went to the Computer lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period 2: We delivered the Bluffs Monitor Community Newspaper to the houses on Payzac and Apscott, two streets near the school. When we had finished delivering the newspapers we had our weekly spelling test.

Period 3: We came to class to do our dental hygiene. Then we went to the Art room where we finished off our Stained Glass Drawings.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the Daily Report. We then had our daily meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: As Mr. Wilkens is away on Monday we will not be going to the YMCA.

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We all worked at preparing our delicious lunch. We had made the tomato sauce yesterday and we used it to make an amazing pan of Lasagna. Jaran washed the lettuce for the Caesar Salad. Ibby and Stafhan set the table . Kabilan and Laven grated  the mozzarella cheese. Ralph made the fruit punch. Mr. Wilkens gave a demonstration on how to put together  the lasagna then took it to the community kitchen to bake. We almost forgot about the Garlic Bread but luckily Ms. Benyarko found the loaf we baked yesterday so we had our garlic bread as well. It was a great meal enjoyed by all !

Period 2: While we were waiting for the Lasagna to bake we worked on our Current Event activity. We choose articles from the Metro newspaper and then filled in the worksheets.

Period 3: In Art today we continued to work on our Stained Glass drawings. Some of us even finished them.

Period 4: We started the period by having our dessert of Chocolate Brownies with Ice Cream. Then we did our classroom jobs. We then filled in the Daily Report.  We finished off with a skillful sit.

Daily Report for Wednesday January 7th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Very COLD !!

In Class Today:

Period 1: We started out the day by prepping the sauce we will be using to make the Lasagna for tomorrow`s lunch. Laven and Robert cut up the peppers..

Stafhan and Ralph had the tear jerking job of cutting up the onions….

Kabilan and Shagee cut up the celery and some Hot Peppers….

Meanwhile, Ibby had the sweet job of making and then putting the icing on the brownies….

Tomorrow we will be even busier putting the whole thing together !

Period 2: In this period it was time for some more traditional school work. We began by working on our addition skills by playing some math games on the Whiteboard. After we all had a turn polishing our computational skills we did individual work on some addition worksheets.

Period 3: We came back to class to do our dental hygiene then went to the Art Room. Today we began making some Stained Glass drawings . We traced some geometric patterns on paper and then coloured the patterns in. Tomorrow we will oil the paper to create a stained glass effect.

Period 4 : We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled the daily report. Then we had our meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday January 6th 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Very Cold !!

In Class Today:

Period 1:  Since it is going to be so cold tomorrow,  Mr. Wilkens decided to take the class grocery shopping today instead. We went to No Frills where we bought the ingredients for Thursday’s Lunch. We will be having Lasagne, Caesar  Salad and Garlic Bread.

Period 2: We did our usual Tuesday Drama Activity. We started out by playing Musical Chairs. Ibrihaim won his first game. Then as usual , Stafhan “The Lion” Kalananthan won the next two rounds. We then had our circle dance activity followed by a game of Animal Charades.

Period 3: After lunch we came back to our class to do our dental hygiene. Then we went  to the Art room where we finished off glazing our Ceramic Tortoise’s. We finished off the period by playing a game of Connect Four.

Period 4 : We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the Daily Report. That left us enough time for a truly Skillful sitting.

Daily Report for Monday January 5th. 2015

The Weather Today was: Sunny  and  COLD !

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began the day by having a class discussion about  what we did over the Christmas Holidays. Then we wrote in our journals about our holiday activities. We also worked on cleaning up the classroom by sweeping and mopping the floors and cleaning of the Meditation Table.

Period 2: We came up with this week’s spelling words. The words for this week are about the New Year. After we had finished writing down the spelling words in our journals we went on line with Promethean Board to do some patterns and geometry.

Period 3: In Art today we began work on the Ceramic Tortoises  that we made a long time ago with Mr. Wilkens. First we all had to help reconstitute the PSH Glazes that Mr. Stolte wants to use up. We did manage to put a first coat of Bean Pot Brown glaze on our tortoises.

Period 4 : We started out by doing our classroom jobs. Then we got a treat when Mr. Wilkens gave us all ( except Jaran) a Cinnamon Bun, fresh from the oven. Then we had a short, yet skillful, sitting.
