The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the computer lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period 2: We worked on our Current  Event  Activity. First we filled in the worksheet and then we presented our findings to the class . We also did some further investigation of the different news stories on the Web , using the Whiteboard. 

Period 3: The period was somewhat shortened today because we had an extended lunch period so we could watch (and participate in) the Movember Shave Off. Doug got shave off the V.P.’s mustache and RF got shave off Mr. Stolte, our art teacher’s ‘stache. In order to have the privilege of shaving the staff, Doug and RF both made a cash donation to the Movember Fund. When the Shave Off was done we went back to our classroom where we did our dental hygiene. Then we went to the art room where we worked on our paper mache bows by cutting up colored tissue paper which we will use to finish off our bowls.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the daily report. We finished off the day with a skillful sitting.

Note to Parents: As Mr. Wilkens will not be here on Monday we will not be going to the YMCA. We will be going on Wednesday instead.

Daily Report for Thursday November 27th. 2014

Today’s Date: Thursday November 27, 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold, some flurries

In Class Today:

Period 1 and 2: We all helped to make our lunch. Today we had Submarine Sandwich’s with French Fries. Jaran and Doug set the table. Laven cut the cheese slices. Stafhan and Robert cut up the sliced meat. Kabilan washed the lettuce. Then we all got to make our own Submarine  Sandwich’s. We ate our lunch and started with the clean up.

Period 3:In Art class today we made ceramic Christmas Ornaments. Aaron and RF rolled out some clay. Then we all used some cookie cutters to cut out various shapes. We made Candy Canes, Stars and Bells. Then we put holes in the ornaments and smoothed out the clay using a sponge. 

Period 4: We came back early from Art so we could celebrate Robert’s 20^th. Birthday. We had Chocolate Fudge Cake with Ice Cream. Then we did our classroom jobs and filled in the daily report. Then we had enough time for a skillful sit.

Daily Report for Wednesday November 26th. 2014

Today’s Date: Wednesday   November  26^th  2014

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went  shopping  at  the dollar store. We bought some candies to use in decorating the Gingerbread Houses that we will be making in December. We also purchased some Christmas decorations and a Star for our Christmas Tree. We then went to Food Basics to buy the groceries for our Lunch Program tomorrow. We will be having Submarine sandwiches with French Fries. Since tomorrow is Robert’s birthday we will be having Chocolate Fudge Birthday cake with ice cream for dessert.

Period 2: Since we had to go to the Dollar Store we were still on the road in Period 2. We stopped off at the new Tim Horton’s where Kabilan, Robert and Jaran bought some Hot Chocolate. When we got back RH and Aaron went to the Soul Leaders meeting. Robert , Jaran and Stafhan went to Bocce ball practice. Those of us who were still here helped to make Cinnamon Buns ( which we will be taken home today)

 

Period 3: WE continued working on our paper mache bowls, painting the outside with gesso. Then we made some paper snowflakes to help decorate our room.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in our daily report and then we had a meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday November 25th. 2014

Today’s Date: Tuesday November 25, 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We welcomed a new student to our class today. His name is Doug. We wrote in our Weekend Journals what we did over the weekend. When we had finished writing we presented our journal entries to the class.  

Period 2: We began to decorate our classroom for the Holiday Season. Mr. Wilkens bought a Christmas from Ikea and we decorated it today.

After we had finished decorating the tree we read from the newspaper. 

  

Period 3: We came back to class and did our dental hygiene. Then we went to the Art Room where we worked on our paper mache bowls. After we finished with putting gesso on the bowls we began work on Mini Christmas trees to help decorate our classroom with.

Period 4: We started off by doing our classroom jobs. Then we began on our Daily Log. At 1:55 we were called to the Gym where we got to watch  some of the teachers play the boys Volleyball team.

The teachers won the first game by a score of 25-23, it was very close. Unfortunately we had to leave to catch our buses before the second game was done.

In Class Today:

Period 1: Since today was a Staff Meeting Day schedule we got to watch a movie in class. Today we watched a Christmas Movie called ELF. It was about a human baby who was brought up as one of Santa’s elves. We also got to enjoy some popcorn with our movie viewing experience.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report . Then we had just enough time for a short sitting.

Today’s Date: Friday November 21, 2014

The Weather Today was: Sunny with a few Clouds and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went the Computer Lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period 2: We began the period by presenting our Current Event worksheets to the class. Before we had finished we were called down to the gymnasium to practice our Bocce Ball skills. In December there will be a Special Olympic Bocce Ball tournament and we hope to send a powerful team.   

Period 3: We started out by coming back to our class for dental hygiene. Then we went to the Art room where we did some patterning colouring sheets while we waited to go to the anti-bullying assembly. At the assembly we learned about cyber bullying and steps to take to reduce bullying behaviour everywhere.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in our daily report. At this point we had enough time to do a longer meditation sitting, ensuring that we can be mindful over the weekend.

Note to Parents: Monday is a Staff Meeting Schedule. Buses will pick up students at 12:15….

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began the day by preparing our Lunch Program meal of the week. This week we had Breakfast for Lunch otherwise known as Brunch. Shagee and Ibrahim set the table. Robert, R.H. and Aaron cut up onions and potatoes for the Home Fries. Stafhan made the OJ. Laven cracked the eggs for the scrambled eggs and French Toast. Kabilan put the breakfast meats on baking sheets.. While Laven and Mr. Wilkens went to the Community Kitchen to cook the food the rest of the class finished off their Current Event Worksheets.

Period 2: We ate our Brunch a little early today because there was a Free Lunch being served in the Cafeteria courtesy of the Maplewood Lasagne Club. We managed to start the clean up of the class kitchen before we went to the Cafeteria for the Free Lunch.

Period 3: After lunch we came back to our classroom to do our dental hygiene and finish up with the cleaning. Then we went to the Art Room where we continued work on our Paper Mache bowls.

Period 4: We started off the period by doing our classroom jobs. Then we began filling in the daily report when we got called down to the gym for a game of Dodgeball to help raise money for Movember. It was a lot of fun !

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold with Light Flurries

In Class Today:

Period 1: We stared out be working on our Current Event Activity. Then at 9:30 we walked to No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. We will be having breakfast for lunch, or as Aaron says…Brunch. Brunch for Lunch, it even rhymes !  We bought bacon, sausage, eggs and bread as well as some OJ. The menu tomorrow will include French Toast. Pancakes, Home Fries, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage and Bacon as well as Orange Juice.

Period 2: We finished off our current event worksheets and then we all got to go to the gymnasium for the Movember Carnival. We got to play various games like bowling, bean bag toss, shooting a soccer ball  for different prizes like candy and decals. We all had a good time and raised some money for Prostrate Cancer research.

Period 3: We came back to class and did our dental hygiene. Then we went to the Art Room where we worked on our paper mache bowls. At the end of the period we had some free time to work on colouring patterns.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the daily report. That left us just enough time for a skillful sitting.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began the day with our weekly spelling test. Then we made Apple Crisp. Everybody had a chance to use the apple peeler/slicer/corer that Mr. Wilkens brought in. Kabilan helped to measure out the ingredients for the topping and R.F. helped to portion out the prepared apple filling. Jaran and R.F. set the table for the weekly Mindfulness Community Lunch.

Period 2: We finished off the Apple Crisp preparation and Mr. Wilkens took the product to bake off in the Community kitchen. After we had finished cleaning up we did some patterning activities on the Whiteboard.

Period 3: We came back to class to do our dental hygiene. In Art class today we began by looking at the photographs we took last week. Mr. Stolte will be making a Slide Show of our work. Then we continued work on the Paper Mache Bowls we started last Thursday. 

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the daily report. Then we had our daily meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: We will be walking to the grocery store tomorrow, please see that the students are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Today we made our weekly trip to the YMCA. This week was our bi-weekly swimming trip. Shagee forgot to bring his swim wear and Ibrahim was recovering from a cold so they had to sit out while the rest of us went swimming. After we finished our swim we went to the Food Court at Scarborough Town Centre to eat our lunch. Then we went to the Dollar Store where we bought some foil containers to make Apple Crisp tomorrow’ We then went to the local Freshco to but some of the ingredients for the Apple Crisp. After we had finished shopping we took the TTC back to school. We filled in our Daily Report and had enough time for our Daily sitting.

Daily Report Thursday November 13, 2014

Today’s Date: Thursday November 13 ^th, 2014  

The Weather Today was: Cold and Flurries

In Class Today:

Period 1: Mr. Wilkens was away today and so we had a substitute teacher; Mr. Rose. Today was cooking day and so we did the preparation in this period. Each student was assigned tasks like cutting vegetables, setting the tables, and making drinks. Ralph helped Mrs. Williams with the meals in the kitchen.

Period 2: In this period we did newspaper articles. We then cut out interesting articles, paste them in our booklets. Next we presented our articles to the class. By then it was lunch time. We sat around the table and were treated to lunch by our abled teachers. After lunch we did our usual hygiene and classroom jobs.

Period 3: We went to art for this period. In class we made bowls out of newspaper and glue.

Period 4: In period 4 we did our daily report. Following this we did our meditation.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is a P. A. day. All students will stay home tomorrow. Monday swimming at the YMCA!

Daily Report for Wednesday November 12th. 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began by looking at some videos of past performances by Mr. Wilkens classes to get an idea of what we might do for the upcoming Holiday Assembly. Then we did our Drama activity. We played two games of Musical Chairs, Aaron won the first game and Stafhan was the victor in the second game. After that we did our Circle Dance  and then a game of sports charades.

Period 2: We did our weekly shopping trip to No Frills to buy the groceries for our lunch tomorrow. We will be having Curry Chicken with Rice and Peas as well as Coleslaw. For dessert we will be making Apple Crumble.

 

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene. In art today we were able to finish off the first stage of our Ceramic tortoises that we started two weeks ago.

  

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs and then filled in the daily report. Luckily we had enough time for a good sitting.

The Weather Today was: A mix of sun and clouds and Warm

In Class Today:

Period 1: Today was the first real day of Term 2 as yesterday we went to the YMCA. We started out the day with a Level 2.5 Co-op experience. We delivered copies of the Bluffs Monitor, a local community newspaper, to houses in the school neighbourhood. When we got back to class we wrote in our Weekend Journals and chose our weekly spelling words. Aaron and RF set the table for the Mindfulness Community Lunch.  

Period 2: We continued work on our journals and spelling words. At 10:45 we began watching the Remembrance Day Ceremony  which was held at 5050 Yonge St. by the TDSB. We all observed two minutes of silence at 11:00 A.M.

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene and some of our classroom tasks. Then we went to the Art room for our first class with Mr. Stolte, our art teacher for Term 2. As it was so nice outside today Mr. Stolte thought it might be nice to go outside and take some photographs. ( to be displayed here once they are uploaded )  

Period 4: We filled in the daily report. We had our daily meditation.

Daily Report for Monday November 10th. 2014

The Weather Today was: A mix of sun and clouds

In Class Today:

Today was the first day of Term 2. We no longer have baking, but tomorrow we will be starting Art with Mr., Stolte. We would have started today but for our weekly trip to the YMCA. We got to leave for the Y at a much earlier time than in the past. We left school to take the TTC to the Y at 9:20 and got there around 10:00. This gave us plenty of time to engage in physical fitness activities. We walked over two miles on the upstairs track and then put in twenty minutes on the treadmill machine. Then we went to the food court at Scarborough Town Centre to eat our lunch.  After lunch we did some walking around the mall and then took the TTC back to school.

We got back around 1: 20 and worked on some literacy activities on the whiteboard. We then filled in the daily report. We finished off the day with a meditation sitting.

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: Aaron and Jaran portioned out cookies onto baking trays. Aaron was making Oatmeal Raisin Cookies while Jaran made Chocolate Chip Cookies. The rest of the class did various cleaning tasks as today was the last day of our baking class. We all had a great time in Baking and we learned a lot as well. A big thanx to Ms. Vorobej and Ms. Perkins for working with us this term.    

Period 2: We went to the Computer lab where we worked on various educational programs.  

Period 3: We used the Interactive Whiteboard to do some literacy activities. We also read the Metro newspaper while a technician checked out our Whiteboard.

Period 4: We did our dental hygiene and then completed our class jobs. Then we filled in the Daily Report. Unfortunately we did not have enough time for a sit as we had to go to a movie in in the Cafeteria so our teachers can finish the report cards.

In Class Today:

Period 1: Today in Bake Shop we finally got to see the video that gave us so much trouble yesterday. It was of a show called Cake Walk and it featured Ms. Vorobej as the winning contestant. She won for decorating a wedding cake and the prize was $5000.00 !

Period 2: We worked on preparing our Mexican Food lunch. Laven, Jaran, Robert and Aaron cut vegetables for the Mexican Rice. Stafhan and RF set the table. Shagee grated cheese and shredded lettuce for the Tacos and Kabilan grated cheese and made the Limeade. Aaron also went to the community kitchen with Mr. Wilkens to cook the food.

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene and finished cleaning up from lunch. Then we did our Current Event activity and presented our findings to the class. Near the end of the period we went for a walk in the community with Laven as team leader, he did a great job.  

Period 4: We had our dessert which Mr. Wilkens bought from the bake shop cart that Mr. Infinity’s class was bringing around the school. We had Chocolate Chip Cookies and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins. We then filled in the daily report. To end off the day we had a meditation sitting.

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cool

In Class Today:

Period 1: We had our final exam in Bake Shop today. We all did different jobs and Ms. Vorobej observed us as we worked and evaluated our work.

After we had finished in the Bake Shop we went to the YMCA. This week was the first time that we went swimming. ( except for two students who “forgot” their swim wear ! ) The water was not to cold and we had a good time in the pool. After swimming we went to the Food Court at Scarborough Town Center  to have our lunch. When we had finished our lunch we went to the nearby Freshco store to buy the groceries for tomorrows lunch. We will be having Mexican Food. Tacos and Burritos, Mexican Rice and Frijoles Refritos ( refried beans). Then we to the TTC back to school. When we got back to school we filled in the daily report  and unfortunately did not have time for a sit.

Daily Report for Tuesday November 4th. 2014

Today’s Date: Tuesday November 4^th 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Kind of Warm

In Class Today:

Period 1: We tried to watch a DVD starring Ms. Vorobej in a show called Cake Walk. Unfortunately the DVD kept skipping and freezing. We tried our best to watch it, we tried with three different DVD players, all to no avail.

Period 2: Since we will be going to the YMCA tomorrow we went to the Art room today. We worked on our ceramic tortoise’s. We did not finish them but we should be able to get them done soon. We had to leave the art room a little early so we could set up for the Mindfulness Community Lunch. 

  

Period 3: We took down the Halloween decorations in the room and hallway. Ibby and Kabilan loaded the dishwasher and washed the dishes. Then we used the whiteboard to complete some numeracy activities.

 Period 4: We filled in the daily report. We did our daily meditation.  

Note to Parents: We will be going swimming at the YMCA tomorrow so the students will need swim suit and towel as well as gym clothes. 

Daily Report for Monday November 3rd. 2014

Today’s Date: Monday November 3, 2014

The Weather Today was: Cloudy and Cool

In Class Today:  We had a supply teacher and EA in for Mr. Wilkens and Ms. Benyarko.

Period 1: We are practicing for our exam on Wednesday at the bake shop. We started by getting the equipment ready. Then we took turns washing apples. Stafhan was not feeling well enough to work in the bake shop today, so he went home.  We had a practice fire drill also.

Period 2:  We started with the spelling test today then we talked about the weekend. We wrote information in our journals. 

Period 3: We did our Classroom jobs and then we went to yoga with Mr. Tipoff’s class.

Period 4: We did our daily report and then we did 10 minutes of meditation.

Note to Parents:  Mr. Wilkens and Ms. Benyarko were away today and will return tomorrow.
