The Weather Today was: Rainy and Cool

Today was a very special day here at ISP10B. We have been working hard all week to get ready for today. We played host to two ISP classes from Ionview Public School. Here is a picture of us and our guests….

We had a very busy day. We started out by going to the Halloween Makeup Workshop where some of us had different services. Aaron and Robert got nice haircuts, at only $1.00 it was a real deal ! Laven and Stafhan had their faces painted. Kabilan got a tattoo.

After our visit to the workshop, we began to prepare the room for receiving our guests. We set up for decorating the cupcakes and of course got the big meal ready. Here are some pictures of our big day….

After we had eaten our lunch we all went to the front foyer where Ms. Duffin was doing a Thriller Dance for the students. Here is a video of us dancing…

After our guests left we filled in the daily report early so we could all go to the Halloween Dance. It was a great day all around !

Note to Parents: As Mr. Wilkens will not be here on Monday the class will not be going to the YMCA. We will be making up the YMCA date this Wednesday Nov. 5^th.

Today’s Date: Thursday October 30^th. 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cool

In Class Today:

Period 1: We all worked very hard getting set up for the Halloween Bake Sale. Aaron and Laven put product  in bags and boxes as well as decorating cupcakes with mini pumpkins. Ibrahim, Robert ,Jaran and Shagee helped to decorate the table for the sale. Here are some pictures of us working….

Period 2: Aaron and Kabilan made cupcakes for tomorrows Halloween Feast……  

The rest of the class worked on math programs on the whiteboard. We were using a program that challenged our addition skills. Laven had a score of 41, Jaran was close behind with a score of 39 . We went to the cafeteria a little early so some of us could buy some of the product that we had worked so hard to prepare. Here is a picture of the sale table…

Period 3: We all walked to Food Basics and Bulk Barn to buy the final things needed for the big day tomorrow.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs and  set up a little for tomorrow. Then we filled in the daily report.

Note to Parents: Students will not need lunch tomorrow, we will be having our Lunch Program lunch…

Daily Report for Wednesday October 29th. 2014

Today’s Date: Wednesday October 29^th. 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cool

In Class Today:

Period 1: Ibrahim, Shagee, Robert and Stafhan folded boxes for tomorrows Halloween Bake Sale. Aaron, Laven and Kabilan helped Ms. Vorobej to make muffins. Jaran and R. F. helped to decorate Pumpkin cookies with icing. At the end of the period we all helped to clean up.

Period 2: We went for our weekly visit to the Art Room where we began a new ceramic project. We are making Ceramic Tortoises ( or Turtles ). We got a good start on the project but still have a lot of work to do on them. 

  

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene then did our classroom jobs. After that we our current events activity. Once we had filled in our current event worksheets we each presented our work to the class.

Period 4: We filled in our daily report. Then we had our daily meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is the Halloween Bake Sale !!! Perhaps the students could bring some $ to buy some of the products they have had a hand in making…..

Today’s Date: Tuesday October 28, 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Warm

In Class Today:

Period 1: Kabilan and R.F. put up some posters for Thursday’s Bake Sale. Aaron, Jaran, Laven and Ibrahim reviewed kitchen safety and completed a worksheet. Then they made mini pumpkins for the sale. Robert and Shagee had their picture taken as it was photo re shoot day.

Period 2: We were all very busy with the food prep for Friday’s big lunch. Jaran, Laven Robert, Stafhan and Aaron cut up celery, onions and red pepper for the spaghetti sauce. Ibrahim and Shagee made meatballs.

Period 3: Aaron and R.F. loaded the dishwasher with dished from the Mindfulness lunch. While Aaron and Mr. Wilkens were in the community kitchen cooking the spaghetti sauce and the meatballs the rest of the class worked on different numeracy websites using the Whiteboard. When Mr. Wilkens and Aaron returned from the community kitchen we went for a walk outside. It was very warm.

Period 4: Upon returning from our walk in the community we filled in the daily report. Then we had our daily meditation sitting.

Today’s Date: Monday October 27, 2014

The Weather Today was: Partly Cloudy and Cool

In Class Today:

Period 1: The class was split into two groups. Each group went around the school putting up posters advertising the Halloween Bake Sale which will happen this upcoming Thursday Oct. 30^th

Period 2: We walked to the local No Frills to buy some groceries for our Halloween lunch this Friday. We are having two DD classes from Ionview Public School as guests this Friday. We will be eating a meal of Spaghetti and Meatballs with Garlic Bread and Caesar Salad. We are going to be making the Spaghetti Sauce from scratch so we are going to start on the food prep early, hence the early trip to No Frills.

Period 3: When we got back from our trip to No Frills we put away the groceries. Then we continued to work on our Halloween posters.

Period 4: As we only had 20 minutes before we had to leave for the buses, we continued work on our posters.

In Class Today:

Period 1: Because of the Track Meet at Variety Village, we only had four students in class today. Aaron helped to make some Graham Cracker Pie Crusts. The rest of the class helped to wash up.

Period 2: We all helped to decorate the classroom for Halloween. First we went out back of the school to get our “Halloween Tree “. Then we put up various decorations and set up the   “Halloween Tree “. Here are some pictures of the result…..

Period 3: We used the Interactive White Board to do different types of educational activities. We did some money math, some patterning exercises, a high frequency word matching game and some addition exercises.

Period 4: We went outside for a walk in the forest. We then completed the Daily report.

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Warm

In Class Today:

Period 1: Aaron, Ibby, Kabilan and Jaran peeled some apples and put in a bucket. Stafhan, Robert and Shagee wrapped pie shells and put them in the freezer then they helped to wash pots and pans.  

Period 2: We all worked at getting our lunch prepared. Ibby set the table. Stafhan prepped the green beans and then made the fruit punch. Kabilan and Shagee peeled and sliced carrots for salad garnish. Robert and Jaran cut up celery for garnish, Jaran also cut up some cucumber. Aaron washed and spun dried the lettuce for the salad, he also riced the potatoes. Then we ate our lunch of Oven Fried Chicken ( with homemade Shake and Bake coating ), Mashed potatoes with gravy, fresh green beans and Garden Salad.

Period 3: Since it was such a beautiful day we went for a walk to the Guild Inn Park to learn about taking pictures. Everybody in the class got to take a picture. Here are some of our photographs….

Period 4: When we got back from our Photo Safari we had dessert. We had French Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Icing. Then we filled in our daily report. Last, but not least, we had a sitting……

The Weather Today was: Overcast and then Sunny with a few clouds

In Class Today:

Period 1: Today in Baking we all did a lesson on apples. We learned about the different parts of apples and completed a worksheet on this fantastic fruit. We also got a recipe for Apple Crisp. Now we can all make it at home.

Period 2: We went to the Art Room where we glazed our Halloween Tea Light Holders. Some of us had to go a little early for practice for the Special Olympics Track and Field meet that will be on Friday.  

  

Period 3: We walked to Food Basics to buy the groceries for tomorrows Lunch Program. We will be having Oven Baked Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and Garden Salad.    

Period 4: When we got back from the shopping trip we put away the groceries. Then we filled in our daily report. We then had enough time for a skillful sitting.  

Note to Parents: Lunch Program tomorrow, do not send a lunch.

The whole class ( at least everybody who came to school today ) went on a field trip to walk on the Seaton Trail. Even though the weather was not that great we all had a good time. We also got some well needed physical activity.

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cool with Scattered Showers

In Class Today:

Period 1: Laven and Jaran portioned out cookie dough. They made some Oatmeal Raisin and Chocolate Chip Cookies. Shagee, Kabilan, Stafhan and Robert all peeled , cored and sliced some apples. 

After baking was done we left the school to go to the YMCA. We took the bus to Kennedy Station then took the LRT to McCowan station. When we got to the Y we went upstairs to the track and walked around the track. Then we went downstairs where we used the treadmill machines. When we finished our Y activities we went to the Food Court at Scarborough Town Centre to eat our lunch. Then we took the TTC back to school.

When we got back to school we filled in the daily report and had just enough time for a short sit.

Note to Parents: Seaton Trail Trip tomorrow. Make sure students dress appropriately for weather.

Daily Report Friday October 17 2014

Today’s Date: Friday October 17^th 2014

The Weather Today was: Cold and windy and over cast

Low of 15°C   High of 17°C   P.O.P 60%

In Class Today: In class today we had a supply teacher Mr. Riad.

Period 1: In the Bake shop we all worked in groups: Aaron Laven and Jaran peeled apples. Stafhan, Shaggie and Kabilan also peeled apples with Mrs. Perkins. Ibrahim and Robert they did photocopying with Mrs. Danette. At the end of class we all ate apple crisp with ice cream.

Period 2: We did our Thanksgiving spelling test and a Halloween word search. Then we went to the computer lab.

Period 3:   We did hygiene and our classroom jobs. We had a fire drill and we all went outside. Afterwards, we did yoga with Mr. Tipoff‘s class, in the gym.

Period 4: We did our daily report and meditation.

Today’s Date: Thursday October 16^th. 2014

The Weather Today was:  Overcast and Warm

In Class Today:

Period 1: Aaron and Jaran portioned out two kinds of cookies, Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Raisin. Ibby , Kabilan and Stafhan  peeled, cored and sliced some apples to make Apple Crisp. Laven and Toren measured out ingredients to make some more cookie dough. Shagee and Robert were working with Linda making something. ( we are not sure what ) At the of the period we all helped to clean up.  

Period 2: We all helped to get ready for our weekly Lunch Program. Today we had Macaroni and Cheese with Garden Salad. Jaran, Stafhan and Ibby set the table. Shagee and Kabilan peeled and shredded carrots for the salad. Aaron, Laven and another student helped to cut up garnish for the salad.

Period 3: We started out the period by finishing the clean up, then we had our dessert of Fruit Salad and Vanilla Ice Cream. We then went for a walk. Laven was the group leader on the walk as we did the Go Train route. When we got back to class we did some money math exercises.  

Period 4: We  filled in our daily report. Then we had our meditation sitting.

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Warm

In Class Today:

Period 1: Ms. Vorobej was on a field trip to pick organic apples. We had Mr. McGregor as our occasional teacher. We all worked on preparing apples for various baked goods. We washed, peeled, cored and sliced the apples. Then we measured out the ingredients for Apple Crumble. We all helped to clean up at the end of the period.

Period 2: We went to the Art Room to work on our Halloween Tea Light Holders. We all managed to finish making the holders and hopefully they can be fired so we can glaze them next  week. When we got back to class we made our shopping list for tomorrow’s   Lunch Program. We will be eating Macaroni and Cheese.

Period 3: We walked to the local  Food Basics to buy groceries. Since we had discovered that cheese was on sale at Food Basics we went there instead of No Frills.

Period 4: When we got back from our trip to the grocery store we put the groceries away. Then we filled in daily report. We then had enough time for a skillful sitting.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is Lunch Program. Do not send a lunch.

In Class Today:

Period 1: Ms. Vorobej was away today. We had Ms. Z for a supply teacher. We all did worksheets on Weights and Measurements.

Period 2: Aaron and Laven set the table for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community Lunch. We wrote in our journals what we did over the long weekend. Then we presented our journals to the class. We also wrote out our spelling words for the week. When we had finished we had time for a short Drama activity. We played two games of Musical Chairs, Stafhan won both games !

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene. Aaron and Robert loaded the dishwasher with the dishes from the Mindfulness lunch. Meanwhile the rest of us started on our Current Event activity. When we had all finished our worksheets, we presented our findings to the class. Even though it was raining a bit, we went for a walk. The leader of the group this time was Kabilan.

Period 4: When we got back from our walk we filled in the daily report. Then we had our regular meditation sitting.

In Class Today:

Period 1: Jaran, and Kabilan helped to get ready for the Thanksgiving Bake Sale by putting various types of pie’s in boxes. Ibrahim, Robert and Stafhan put Butter Tarts in boxes. Aaron and Laven worked with Torren, a co-op student from Borden BTI, to also put various baked goods in boxes. We all worked very hard to help make the Sale a great success.

Period 2: We began the period with our weekly spelling test. Then we went to the computer lab to work on individual educational computer programs.

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene and classroom jobs. Then Mr. Wilkens gave a lesson on putting the different types of cutlery, plates, cups and kitchen utensils in the correct place.” A place for everything and everything in it’s place! “  The class did very well in this lesson and it is hoped that we can keep our kitchen well organized. Near the end of the period we went for a walk in the neighbourhood. Robert was the class leader on the walk and he did a fine job.

Period 4: After getting back from our constitutional we filled in our daily report. We then had enough time for a skillful sitting.

Note to Parents: No school on Monday, Thanksgiving Holiday. Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Warm/Cool

In Class Today:

Period 1: In bakeshop today we were busy getting ready for the Thanksgiving Bake Sale. Aaron and he who is not to be named measured out ingredient’s for something. ( Aaron could not remember what !) Laven, Kabilan and Robert put cookies in plastic bags for the sale. Ibrahim cracked eggs into a bowl for Cornbread.  

Period 2: We spent all of period 2 getting ready for our Thanksgiving Feast. Aaron, Ibrahim and Shagee set the table ( for 14 ! ) Laven cut peppers and tomato for the salad. Robert and Aaron cut up celery, also for salad garnish. We had two guests for the meal, Mr. Spiers and Mr. Stolte. They really enjoyed the meal. We had Roast Turkey with Dressing, Succotash ( Corn and Lima Beans)  Carrot and Squash Mash, Mashed Potatoes, Pan Gravy and Garden Salad. For dessert we had a choice of Apple Crumble Pie with Ice Cream or Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream.

Period 3: We had a lot of cleaning to do after such a big meal. Everybody pitched in and it did not take that long. When we had done with clean up we did our Current Event  Activity. Then we went for a short walk to try and work off some of the calories we consumed at lunch.

Period 4: When we got back from our walk we filled in our Daily Report. Since we were somewhat pressed for time we did not get to have a sit. We did however have a chance to say good bye to Devon, who is moving to Ms. McLaren’s class . We will miss him, but we are sure he will have a great time in his new class !

Today’s Date:  Wednesday October 8^th. 2014

The Weather Today was:  Partly Sunny and Cool

In Class Today:

Period 1: Laven and another student scooped out pumpkins to make Pumpkin Pies.  Jaran and Aaron portioned out Cranberry Walnut Cookies. Robert, Shagee and Kabilan helped to put up posters around the school advertising the Thanksgiving Bake sale.

Period 2:  We started a new Art project. We are going to be making Jack O Lantern Tea Light Holders. We rolled out the clay, and began cutting out the faces. We will continue work on the project next week.

Period 3: We spent the period doing food prep for tomorrows Thanksgiving Feast. Laven and Jaran cut up celery for the dressing. Aaron made the Pumpkin Pie and cut up onions for the dressing. Devon, Kabilan, Ibrahim and Shagee peeled cut up some carrots and potatoes. Robert peeled potatoes and also cut up onions for the dressing.

Period 4: We all went to the cafeteria for the Terry Fox Rewards Assembly. We saw Mr. Tipoff get a Mohock  haircut. We found out that Big Mike Guthrie gets to be Principal for half a day tomorrow. Then the real fun began….we got to see Mr. Stolte, Ms. Singh Arnold, Mr. Smith and Mr. Watson get cream pies thrown in their faces ! We also got to see Our Principal and Vice Principal dressed up as Superheros. All these rewards came because Maplewood was able to raise over $1000.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation. It was a great assembly !
