Daily Report for Friday January 31st. 2014

Today’s Date:  2014

The Weather Today was:  

Overcast and Cold ( but not too cold) High: 1 Low: -1

P.O.P : 20%

In Class Today:

Period 1: We prepared our Lunch Program meal. Arqum cut up the onions and also helped to cook the Minestrone Soup. Spencer washed and spun dried the lettuce for the Garden Salad and the Submarine Sandwich’s. Curtis and Jessica peeled the potatoes and carrots for the Minestrone. Megan and Julian set the table, Megan also made the fruit punch. Taylor cut up the cucumber, celery and carrots for the salad.

Period 2: We all made our own Submarine Sandwich’s, except for Curtis of course. Then we sat down and ate our lunch.

It was very good !

Period 3: Since this is the first day of a new term, we have to do what we used to do last period in Period 3. We did our classroom jobs, filled in the Daily Report which left us plenty of time for a skillful sitting.

Period 4: We met our new Teacher for the World of Work, Ms. Shanna Manning. She will be teaching us all about the world of work. Today we started out by doing introductions. Then we did a Scavenger Hunt where we showed Shanna around the school.

On Monday we will: Be going to the YMCA. Because of the upcoming swim meet we will be using the pool as well as our usual walk around the indoor track.

Note to Parents: Please ensure your child comes prepared for both swimming and athletic activity at the YMCA. Gym clothes, swim gear and a towel.

The Weather Today was:

In Class Today:

Period 1: We did our Daily Report for yesterday as we did not have enough time to do it yesterday.

Period 2: It was a short day schedule so we finished off the report then went to a special Awards Assembly. Arqum won an award for Food Preparation skills, Spencer won the award for Most Respectful student and Jessica won an award for something that we are not quite sure of. Period 3: After the assembly we went to our last gym class of the year. Mr. Ellis allowed us all a full period of free time. Some of us played hockey and some of us played basketball. We are going to miss having gym, but we still get to go to the YMCA.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs then filled in the Daily Report. Because of the short schedule we did not have time for a sit, but at 1:00 we all got to go to a Dance in the Cafeteria.

Tomorrow we will: We will be having our Lunch Program meal. We are going to make Submarine Sandwich’s and Minestrone Soup as well as a Green Salad.

We are also beginning Term 3, and we  get to begin a course called Exploring the World of Work.

The Weather Today was:  

Very Cold, Windy   High:-8 Low: -11

In Class Today:

We went on a field trip to Ripley’s Aquarium. It was an amazing experience for all of us. Spencer’s favourite part was the jelly fish, especially the Upside Down Jelly Fish. Here is a video of these incredible creatures….

Curtis is unsure what his favourite part was. Megan liked everything about the trip. Taylor was really impressed with the Sharks. Here is a video of some sharks that we saw while going under the giant shark tank….

Jessica was entranced by the Sea Turtle. Unfortunately, Markeisha is not here today so we do not know what her favourite part was. Here is one more video of Ray Bay….

 All in all it was an incredible experience. Here are some pictures of the trip…..

Daily Report for Tuesday January 28th. 2014

The Weather Today was:

In Class Today:

Period 1: Markeisha started her Co-op placement at Giant Tiger today. Unfortunately, Ms, Grieve, the Co-op support person was ill today so Curtis, Megan and Julian could not go to their placement. So, the whole class did a Level 2 co-op activity which involved washing the windows on the doors in the hallways.

Period 2: We used the Promethean Board to do a little preview of tomorrow’s field trip to the Aquarium. It looks like it is a fantastic place and we are all very much looking forward to seeing it for ourselves.  

Period 3: We started out by doing laps around the gym then we did some floor exercises. After the warm up we played Bocce Ball with Mr. Jones’s class.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the Daily Report. Then we had a skillful sit.

Tomorrow we will:  Be Going to…

                The Aquarium !!

In Class Today:

Period 1: We discussed our weekend.

Period 2:  We continued our discussion.  We used the Smartboard.

Period 3: We went to gym, did a warm-up, counted the number of times we went around the gym, then had free time.

Period 4: Classroom jobs and daily report.

Tomorrow we will:  have pottery.  It will be a regular day.

The Weather Today was:  

 Partly Cloudy, Very Cold  High: -14 Low: -15 P.O.P.: 30%

In Class Today:

Period 1: We prepared our Lunch. Jessica and Arqum prepped and cut up the garnish for the green salad. Spencer washed and spin dried the lettuce for the salad. Curtis and Taylor peeled the potatoes. Jessica and Taylor breaded the chicken pieces for the fried chicken. Julian and Megan set the table.

Period 2: We did our current event activity. Arqum choose an article on Bruno Mars. Spencer did an article on Rob Ford. Jessica wrote about houses that have talking walls. By 11:10 our lunch was ready and we all sat down for a veritable feast of Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes with gravy, Corn and fresh baked biscuits !

Period 3: In gym today we used the period to go the library. We read some magazines and got to use the library computers.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs then filled in the daily report. Then we had enough time for a skillful sitting.

Tomorrow we will: Be going to the computer lab and then the Library.

The Weather Today was:  

Partly Cloudy, VERY COLD !  High: -14 Low: -14 P.O.P: 20%

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the Art Room where we worked on our Ceramic Project, Valentine’s Day plates. We have finished making the plates and next week we will apply underglaze to the greenware.

Period 2: We did our usual Drama activities. First we had three rounds of Musical Chairs. Julian had a great day, he won the first two rounds. Curtis won the last round. We then did the circle dance and finished off with a round of Guess the Animal. The students are getting very good at this game, with most of the animals being correctly guessed within a minute or less !

Period 3: We started with a warm up of climbing stairs, we must have gone up and down the stairs twenty times ! Then we all went to the Weight Room for some Cardio fitness activities. At the end of the period we had some free time where some of us played soccer while others played basketball.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we were joined by Ms. Sharma and Mr. Tipoff’s classes to watch videos of the Holiday Assembly (again ! ) After that we filled in our daily report then had only enough time for a short sitting.

Tomorrow we will: Be having our Lunch Program. We will be having Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Corn and a Garden Salad.  

Daily Report for Tuesday January 21st. 2014

Tuesday January 21^st.   2014

The Weather Today was:  

Partly Cloudy, Insanely COLD !!  High: -16 Low: -19 P.O.P. 10%

In Class Today:

Period 1: Curtis and Megan went to their co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart. The rest of us did a Level 2 co-op experience by doing a thorough cleaning of the Art Room. We washed glaze containers, swept and mopped the floor, cleaned chairs and tables.

Period 2: We did some research on different types of drums. First we learned about the Steelpan Drum, an instrument that Julian plays. We found out that the Steelpan drum is a relatively new instrument, having been developed in the 1950’s. Then we learned about the Def, a skin drum that is the only musical instrument that is not “HARAM” according to some hadiths in Islam.

Period 3: In gym we started out by running or walking around the gym. Then we all got to play some Bocce Ball. At the end of the period we had some free time.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs then Ms. Scott’s class came to watch some video’s of our performance at the 2013 Holiday Assembly. We filled in the Daily Report then had just enough time for a short sitting.

Daily Report for Monday January 20th. 2014

The Weather Today was:  

Overcast then Sunny, High:  -9 Low: -10 P.O.P. : 30%

In Class Today:

We went to the Scarborough Y.M.C.A. for our regular Monday routine. We started out by walking around the Upstairs Track. After about 25 minutes of walking exercise we got changed into our swim wear and spent some time in the pool. Except of course for Arqum, who seems to have trouble finding an Islamic Swim suit !  After having a good time at the Y we went to the food court at Scarborough Town Centre to eat lunch. When we had finished our lunch we went to the grocery store, Freshco, to buy some groceries for Thursday’s Lunch Program. We bought some chicken, potatoes and frozen corn. We will be having Fried Chicken for lunch on Thursday.

When we got back we did our classroom jobs. Taylor and Spencer did the recycling for our classroom, as it has not been done for a while. We filled in the Daily Report and then had a sitting.

Daily Report for Friday January 17th. 2014

The Weather Today was:  

Overcast, High: 1 Low: -2  P.O.P.: 30%

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the Computer Lab where we worked at various sites. First we checked the weather channel then we some of us worked on Jigzone puzzles while others used different literacy sites.

Period 2: We did our Current Events activity. After we filled in the worksheets we all presented our work to the class. Jessica chose an article about the Toronto Maple Leafs mascot, Carleton the Polar Bear. Mr. Wilkens and Ms. Duffin did not know that the Leafs had a mascot, so they both learned something new today !

Period 3: We started out in gym by doing different warm up exercises like stretching and running around the gym. Then we did some hockey drills like passing the ball to each other. To finish off we had some free time where some of us played basketball while others played soccer.

Period 4: Mr. Tippoff’s class joined us for Birthday cake and ice cream. We were celebrating Julian’s 21^st. birthday !

Then we watched a video of Mr. Tippoff’s class performance at the Holiday Assembly. We then filled in the daily report and had just enough time for a short sit.

On Moday we will: Be going to the YMCA. We will be swimming so everyone needs to bring a swim suit and towel.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We finished off the food preparation for todays lunch. Arqum prepped the dinner rolls.

Curtis and Julian set the table.

Megan peeled and cut up carrots for the salad.

Taylor cut up the cucumber and celery for the salad.

Jessica washed and spin dried the lettuce.

Period 2: Since we had made the stew yesterday, we had some extra time, so we did our Drama Activities. We played Musical Chairs, did the circle dance activity and played guess the animal. It was a lot of fun !

Period 3: In gym we had a supply teacher , Mr.Ing. He was very enthusiastic and we had a great time playing Soccer.

Period 4: We had our dessert, Ice Cream and Peanut Butter Cookies. We did our classroom jobs and filled in the Daily report. Then we had a meditation sitting.

Tomorrow we will: Be going to the Computer Lab and the Library. We will also be having Mr. Tipoff’s class to come to eat Birthday Cake and Ice Cream to celebrate Julian’s 21^st Birthday !

The Weather Today was:

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the Art Room where we began work on our latest ceramic project. We are making ceramic plates for Valentine’s Day. Today we cut out the clay and put it on plate molds. Next week we will begin the decoration.

Period 2: We prepared the ingredients to make beef stew for tomorrow’s Lunch Program. Curtis and Spencer peeled the potatoes. Markeisha, Jessica and Megan peeled and cut up the carrots. Taylor was especially busy, he prepped the celery, cut up the potatoes and the turnip. Arqum cut up the onions and helped to brown the beef. We will be eating a delicious stew tomorrow  !

At Lunch time Jessica went to Dance Club practice with Ms. Duffin.

Period 3: The gym was being used for a Girls Regional Volleyball Tournament. So we went for our weekly Power Walk one day early.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs, filled in the Daily Report then had a Meditation Sitting.

Tomorrow we will: Be having delicious Beef Stew for Lunch !

In Class Today:

Period 1: Megan and Curtis went to Shopper’s Drug Mart for their co-op placement. The rest of us walked to No Frills to buy groceries for Thursday’s Lunch Program. It was very icy outside so we had to walk very carefully. When we got to No Frills we bought some stew beef, celery, carrots, turnips to make Beef Stew. We also bought some lettuce, cucumber and tomato for a Garden Salad. For dessert we purchased vanilla cake and ice cream to celebrate Julian’s birthday.

Period 2:  We worked on some activities on the Promethean Board. First we did a calendar activity. Then we worked on an activity that taught us about two and three dimensional geometric shapes.  

Period 3: In gym today we started out by warming up using Hula Hoops. Then we all participated in a soccer game. At the end of the period we had free time.

Period 4: First we all did our classroom jobs. Then Ms. Appleton and her class came to our class to watch a video of our performances at the Holiday Assembly. We filled in the Daily Report. Then we had just enough time for a Meditation sitting.

Tomorrow we will: Make the Beef Stew for Thursday’s lunch. We also will going to the Art Room to start on special Valentine’s Day plates.

Daily Report for Monday December 13th. 2014

The Weather Today was:

In Class Today:

Mr. Wilkens finally made it back to school. We are all very happy to have him back.Today we went to the Y.M.C.A. When we got there we found out that the upstairs Walking/Running track was closed. So we went downstairs to the treadmills. We walked on the treadmills for a while then, when the upstairs track re-opened we went upstairs to walk around the track. All in all it was good exercise. After the YMCA went to the food court at Scarborough Town Centre to eat our lunch. Spencer got to buy his lunch at KFC. When we had finished our lunch we walked around the mall for a while. Sure was a lot of walking today!! When we got back to school, quite a bit early, we got to spend some time in the gym with Mr. Ellis. We played some basketball. In last period we did our classroom jobs, filled in our daily report and still had enough time for a skillful sitting.

Tomorrow we will: Be going shopping at No Frills for Thursday’s Lunch Program.

In Class Today

Period 1: Teacher welcome the students to the class, all the students went to the computer lab, login the computers and finish their weekly work practice. They came back to the class and finished their morning circle activates.

Period 2:  The teacher and EA organized some recreational games like Musical chair, passing the ball and Bingo game to involve each and every student to have more fun and actively participate.  

Period 3: All the students went to the Gym class. The teacher took them to the power walk. The weather was cloudy and the ground was slushy but students enjoyed walking and they had fun.    

Period 4: All the students came back to class and finish their class routine work. They also help the teacher to write the daily report. Jessica was the leader to organize the meditation activity. She took charge and led the group.
