Daily Report for Friday December 19^th. 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and COLD

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began cleaning up the classroom for the New Year. We took the decorations off the Christmas Tree and took down the Xmas art work. Then we cleaned out our lockers.

Period 2: We went to the Computer lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period 3: Mr. Stolte came to our room and took us down to the Cafeteria where we all received some presents from Santa Claus. We all were given a Beef Patty and a Gingerbread Man. They were very good.

Period 4 : We went back to class where we ate our lunches ( since today’s schedule did not include a lunch period ) After that we did our Daily Report. To finish off a great year we were able to have one last skillful sit.

Note to Parents: Have a Safe and Happy Holiday…. We”ll be back next year !

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We set the tables and prepared the Christmas feast for our guests that are coming today. Aaron and Mr. Osborne gave out Christmas cards and treats to the Class today. Mr. Wilkens made the turkey, supplied vegetables, and made brownies.

Period 2: We practiced our song known as the “Little Drummer Boy”. Our guest’s, students from last year arrived for lunch.  (Spencer, Jessica, Taylor, Julian, Curtis, Megan, and a special friend.)

Period 3: We all went to the concert in the lunch room. Then we had our dessert known as; Brownies, Jello, Timbits, chips and cookies.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs, the daily report, then we had time for a skilful sitting.

Today’s Date: Wednesday December 17^th 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast, cool, and rainy.

In Class Today: We talked about the movie Penguins of Madagascar. First we had a snack before we left. The students were not allowed to eat at the movies. We ate our lunch at school after we returned. All of the students got a partner for the trip today for safety purposes. Ms. Benyarko had treats for the students.

Period 3: When we got back early we ate our lunch in the classroom. Then we practiced the “Little Drummer Boy” for the Christmas Concert.  We then did colouring by numbers for math class.

Period 4: We did dental hygiene, our classroom jobs, and the daily report. At the end of the day we had “skillful sitting” with the sweet sound of the “Little Drummer Boy”.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is our annual Christmas lunch with our guests and also the Christmas Concert.

Today’s Date: Tuesday December 16^th 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast, rainy and cold.

In Class Today: Due to our busy short day on Monday we were unable to create our blog. Sorry to all!.

Period 1: We did our Current events work sheets and presented to the class. We practiced our Christmas song known as the “Little Drummer Boy”.

Period 2: We decorated our gingerbread houses with candy and icing. All of the students finished decorating before lunch time. Ms. Benyarko took pictures of the completed gingerbread houses.

Period 3: We had a different day in art class. We sang” One Love” and sang Christmas songs in Mr. Chaney’s class. Then we went to the Kris Kringle sale, which consisted of donations from staff.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs, the daily blog, and then we had 15 minutes of “Skillful sitting time”.

Note to Parents:  Students must bring non - heated lunch on Wednesday as we will be going to the movies…

In Class Today: Mr. Wilkens and Ms. Benyarko are away. Mr. Osborne and Mr. Nathan filled in for them today.

Period 1: We went to the computer lab today. Then we got back and started the blog early due to the fact that we are having a last minute dance in block D.

Period 2: We did our Christmas spelling test. Mr. Osborne, Mr. Nathan, and Ms. Williams lead the spelling test.

 We also practiced our song known as the “Little Drummer Boy” and

  continued to update the blog.

Period 3: We went to art class today to put up the Christmas lights on outside our door.

Period 4: We went to the dance in the gym.

Note to Parents: Staff meeting day on Monday. (12:30 bus pick-up)

Today’s Date: Thursday December 11^th 2014.

The Weather Today was: Overcast and cold and heavy snow.

In Class Today:  Mr. Wilkens and Ms. Williams were away today. So we had a supply teacher in today. Ms. Benyarko stayed with us during lunch hour.   Ms. Benyarko and Mr. Osborne saved the day on Thursday!

Period 1: We did not do cooking today because of the bad weather, so we did our current event presentations.

Period 2: We watched a clip of the Nut Job while Jaran informed us about who the character’s voices were.

Period 3: We went to the art room. We did our bowls and put up the lights outside Mr. Wilkens classroom part 1.

Period 4: We did our class room jobs. Then we did our daily report then we had a skillful sitting.

Note to Parents:   Mr. Wilkens will return tomorrow we all hoped.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to No-frills to buy some stuff to make pizzas for tomorrow’s lunch.

Period 2: We did our Current events work sheets. Ms. Benyarko and Aaron went to the Art room to get the decorations for our surprise for Mr. Wilkens.

Period 3: When we got back from lunch.  We did our dental hygiene. Then we decorated the Christmas tree.  We went upstairs for yoga with Mr. Tipoff’s 

class. 

    

Period 4: We did our jobs. Then we did the daily report. Then we had time for a skillful sitting.

Note to Parents: Do not send a lunch. We are making pizza, salad, and juice.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We started out with our usual Tuesday Drama activity. We played three games of Musical Chairs and the competition was fierce. Stafhan “The Lion” won the first game. Our new classmate Doug was the victor in game two. Aaron “A Team” Rohit proved triumphant in the third and final match. We rounded out our Drama time with a game of sports Charades.

Period 2: We had a brand new( to us ,at least) lesson in period 2. Ms. Benyarko had us fill in a worksheet on the things that make us happy. When we had done the worksheets we were able to present them to the class.  

Period 3: In Art class today we finished off ( almost) our Paper Mache Bowls. All we have left to do is put on a final coat of Clear Coat. They should be ready for us to bring home in time for the holidays. 

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We finished off the day with a sitting.

Note to Parents: Students going to the Bocce Ball tournament should dress warmly and have NO ORANGES OR ORANGE PRODUCTS in their lunch.

Today’s Date: Monday December 8th 2014

In Class Today:  Mr.  Wilkens had to go to a meeting for school so we did not go to the YMCA.

Period 1: We talked about what we did on the weekend. We wrote in our journals and we presented our journals to the class.

Period 2:  We started our new Christmas spelling words.  We practiced our song for the Christmas concert next week our song is the little drummer boy.

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene.  We did not go to the Art room because we went to the music room to watch Mr. Smith’s class sing their song for the Christmas concert. Then we went to Yoga with Mr. Tipoff‘s class.

Period 4: We got back to do classroom jobs then we did our daily report then we had time for skillful sitting.

Note to Parents: Mr. Wilkens will return tomorrow.  All of the students were on their  best behaviour.

The Weather Today was: Beautiful ! Sunny and not too cold…

In Class Today:

Period 1: We worked on prepping our  lunch of Hamburgers, French Fries and Coleslaw. Jaran and Stafhan set the table. RF set out the patties on a baking sheet. Ibby washed the lettuce. Shaggy and Laven grated carrots for the coleslaw. Aaron made the juice and helped out all around, as usual !

Period 2: We finished off our lunch prep and then the whole class went out into the neighbourhood to deliver the Bluffs Monitor, our level 2.5 Co-op experience. When we got back we did our weekly spelling test. RF and Aaron got perfect scores ! At 11:00 we had our lunch and it was good.

Period 3: We went to Art class where some of us continued work on our paper mache bowls while those who had finished our bowls made some more Christmas decorations. Unlike yesterday we all listened well and had the classroom totally clean on time.

Period 4: We started out by eating our dessert, Mr. Wilkens amazing Brownies. Then we finished our classroom jobs. Then we filled in our daily report. Unfortunately, we only had time for a short sitting.  

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is a P.A. Day, no school for the students, only staff  have to work. Monday we will be going swimming at the Y.M.C.A., students need swim wear and a towel.

In Class Today:

We did not spend a lot of time in class today as we went to the YMCA to make up for missing the trip on Monday. We took the TTC to the Y and got there around 10:00. We started out by walking around the track where we walked for almost two miles. Then we went downstairs and used the treadmill machines for a further workout.

After finishing up at the Y we went to Scarborough Town Centre to eat lunch in the Food Court and do some shopping at the Dollar Store. Then we went to Freshco to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. We will be having Burgers and Fries as well as some cole slaw. Brownies for dessert.

Period 4: First we put away the groceries. We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. This left us with enough time for a truly skilful sit.  

Note to Parents: Lunch Program tomorrow, students do not need to bring a lunch.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We did our Current Event Activity by filling in the worksheets . We then presented our findings to the class while Mr. Wilkens used the whiteboard to further investigate the different newspaper stories we had worked on.

Period 2: WE began the period with an activity we had not done for some time…  Drama ! We started out with three games of Musical Chairs. Stafhan won the first game, Aaron won the next one and Doug was the victor in the third round. Since the Holiday Assembly is in only a little more than two weeks we began practicing our act for the assembly. We will be performing the song “Little Drummer Boy”.

Period 3: We came back to class and did our dental hygiene. We then went to the art room where we continued to work on our paper mache bowls . Unfortunately some of us did not listen well and we had to stay late in the class so we could clean up properly.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. This left us with just enough time for a very short sitting.

Note to Parents: We will be going to the YMCA tomorrow. We will NOT be going to Scarborough Town Centre for lunch so the students will need to bring a bagged lunch that does not require reheating.

In Class Today: We had a supply in for Mr. Wilkens today.

Period 1: We started with the spelling test then we wrote new spelling words known as gingerbread spelling list. Then we talked about what we did on the weekend.

Period 2:  We did math on the white board.  R.F was helping Ms. Benyarko decorate the front door. Laven and Shaggie did well on a money math with a pirate Captain. The rest of the class helped with the money math.

Period 3: We made Christmas cards and Christmas banners in Art class today.  The supply teacher was proud of all of the students in Art today.

Period 4: We did Classroom jobs and dental hygiene then we completed the daily report. Then we had our sitting

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went to the computer lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period 2: We worked on our Current  Event  Activity. First we filled in the worksheet and then we presented our findings to the class . We also did some further investigation of the different news stories on the Web , using the Whiteboard. 

Period 3: The period was somewhat shortened today because we had an extended lunch period so we could watch (and participate in) the Movember Shave Off. Doug got shave off the V.P.’s mustache and RF got shave off Mr. Stolte, our art teacher’s ‘stache. In order to have the privilege of shaving the staff, Doug and RF both made a cash donation to the Movember Fund. When the Shave Off was done we went back to our classroom where we did our dental hygiene. Then we went to the art room where we worked on our paper mache bows by cutting up colored tissue paper which we will use to finish off our bowls.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the daily report. We finished off the day with a skillful sitting.

Note to Parents: As Mr. Wilkens will not be here on Monday we will not be going to the YMCA. We will be going on Wednesday instead.

In Class Today:

Period 1 and 2: We all helped to make our lunch. Today we had Submarine Sandwich’s with French Fries. Jaran and Doug set the table. Laven cut the cheese slices. Stafhan and Robert cut up the sliced meat. Kabilan washed the lettuce. Then we all got to make our own Submarine  Sandwich’s. We ate our lunch and started with the clean up.

Period 3:In Art class today we made ceramic Christmas Ornaments. Aaron and RF rolled out some clay. Then we all used some cookie cutters to cut out various shapes. We made Candy Canes, Stars and Bells. Then we put holes in the ornaments and smoothed out the clay using a sponge. 

Period 4: We came back early from Art so we could celebrate Robert’s 20^th. Birthday. We had Chocolate Fudge Cake with Ice Cream. Then we did our classroom jobs and filled in the daily report. Then we had enough time for a skillful sit.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went  shopping  at  the dollar store. We bought some candies to use in decorating the Gingerbread Houses that we will be making in December. We also purchased some Christmas decorations and a Star for our Christmas Tree. We then went to Food Basics to buy the groceries for our Lunch Program tomorrow. We will be having Submarine sandwiches with French Fries. Since tomorrow is Robert’s birthday we will be having Chocolate Fudge Birthday cake with ice cream for dessert.

Period 2: Since we had to go to the Dollar Store we were still on the road in Period 2. We stopped off at the new Tim Horton’s where Kabilan, Robert and Jaran bought some Hot Chocolate. When we got back RH and Aaron went to the Soul Leaders meeting. Robert , Jaran and Stafhan went to Bocce ball practice. Those of us who were still here helped to make Cinnamon Buns ( which we will be taken home today)

 

Period 3: WE continued working on our paper mache bowls, painting the outside with gesso. Then we made some paper snowflakes to help decorate our room.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in our daily report and then we had a meditation sitting.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We welcomed a new student to our class today. His name is Doug. We wrote in our Weekend Journals what we did over the weekend. When we had finished writing we presented our journal entries to the class.  

Period 2: We began to decorate our classroom for the Holiday Season. Mr. Wilkens bought a Christmas from Ikea and we decorated it today.

After we had finished decorating the tree we read from the newspaper. 

  

Period 3: We came back to class and did our dental hygiene. Then we went to the Art Room where we worked on our paper mache bowls. After we finished with putting gesso on the bowls we began work on Mini Christmas trees to help decorate our classroom with.

Period 4: We started off by doing our classroom jobs. Then we began on our Daily Log. At 1:55 we were called to the Gym where we got to watch  some of the teachers play the boys Volleyball team.

The teachers won the first game by a score of 25-23, it was very close. Unfortunately we had to leave to catch our buses before the second game was done.

In Class Today:

Period 1: Since today was a Staff Meeting Day schedule we got to watch a movie in class. Today we watched a Christmas Movie called ELF. It was about a human baby who was brought up as one of Santa’s elves. We also got to enjoy some popcorn with our movie viewing experience.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report . Then we had just enough time for a short sitting.

The Weather Today was: Sunny with a few Clouds and Cold

In Class Today:

Period 1: We went the Computer Lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period 2: We began the period by presenting our Current Event worksheets to the class. Before we had finished we were called down to the gymnasium to practice our Bocce Ball skills. In December there will be a Special Olympic Bocce Ball tournament and we hope to send a powerful team.   

Period 3: We started out by coming back to our class for dental hygiene. Then we went to the Art room where we did some patterning colouring sheets while we waited to go to the anti-bullying assembly. At the assembly we learned about cyber bullying and steps to take to reduce bullying behaviour everywhere.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in our daily report. At this point we had enough time to do a longer meditation sitting, ensuring that we can be mindful over the weekend.

Note to Parents: Monday is a Staff Meeting Schedule. Buses will pick up students at 12:15….

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began the day by preparing our Lunch Program meal of the week. This week we had Breakfast for Lunch otherwise known as Brunch. Shagee and Ibrahim set the table. Robert, R.H. and Aaron cut up onions and potatoes for the Home Fries. Stafhan made the OJ. Laven cracked the eggs for the scrambled eggs and French Toast. Kabilan put the breakfast meats on baking sheets.. While Laven and Mr. Wilkens went to the Community Kitchen to cook the food the rest of the class finished off their Current Event Worksheets.

Period 2: We ate our Brunch a little early today because there was a Free Lunch being served in the Cafeteria courtesy of the Maplewood Lasagne Club. We managed to start the clean up of the class kitchen before we went to the Cafeteria for the Free Lunch.

Period 3: After lunch we came back to our classroom to do our dental hygiene and finish up with the cleaning. Then we went to the Art Room where we continued work on our Paper Mache bowls.

Period 4: We started off the period by doing our classroom jobs. Then we began filling in the daily report when we got called down to the gym for a game of Dodgeball to help raise money for Movember. It was a lot of fun !

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cold with Light Flurries

In Class Today:

Period 1: We stared out be working on our Current Event Activity. Then at 9:30 we walked to No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. We will be having breakfast for lunch, or as Aaron says…Brunch. Brunch for Lunch, it even rhymes !  We bought bacon, sausage, eggs and bread as well as some OJ. The menu tomorrow will include French Toast. Pancakes, Home Fries, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage and Bacon as well as Orange Juice.

Period 2: We finished off our current event worksheets and then we all got to go to the gymnasium for the Movember Carnival. We got to play various games like bowling, bean bag toss, shooting a soccer ball  for different prizes like candy and decals. We all had a good time and raised some money for Prostrate Cancer research.

Period 3: We came back to class and did our dental hygiene. Then we went to the Art Room where we worked on our paper mache bowls. At the end of the period we had some free time to work on colouring patterns.

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the daily report. That left us just enough time for a skillful sitting.

In Class Today:

Period 1: We began the day with our weekly spelling test. Then we made Apple Crisp. Everybody had a chance to use the apple peeler/slicer/corer that Mr. Wilkens brought in. Kabilan helped to measure out the ingredients for the topping and R.F. helped to portion out the prepared apple filling. Jaran and R.F. set the table for the weekly Mindfulness Community Lunch.

Period 2: We finished off the Apple Crisp preparation and Mr. Wilkens took the product to bake off in the Community kitchen. After we had finished cleaning up we did some patterning activities on the Whiteboard.

Period 3: We came back to class to do our dental hygiene. In Art class today we began by looking at the photographs we took last week. Mr. Stolte will be making a Slide Show of our work. Then we continued work on the Paper Mache Bowls we started last Thursday. 

Period 4: We did our classroom jobs. Then we filled in the daily report. Then we had our daily meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: We will be walking to the grocery store tomorrow, please see that the students are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Today we made our weekly trip to the YMCA. This week was our bi-weekly swimming trip. Shagee forgot to bring his swim wear and Ibrahim was recovering from a cold so they had to sit out while the rest of us went swimming. After we finished our swim we went to the Food Court at Scarborough Town Centre to eat our lunch. Then we went to the Dollar Store where we bought some foil containers to make Apple Crisp tomorrow’ We then went to the local Freshco to but some of the ingredients for the Apple Crisp. After we had finished shopping we took the TTC back to school. We filled in our Daily Report and had enough time for our Daily sitting.

Daily Report Thursday November 13, 2014

Today’s Date: Thursday November 13 ^th, 2014  

The Weather Today was: Cold and Flurries

In Class Today:

Period 1: Mr. Wilkens was away today and so we had a substitute teacher; Mr. Rose. Today was cooking day and so we did the preparation in this period. Each student was assigned tasks like cutting vegetables, setting the tables, and making drinks. Ralph helped Mrs. Williams with the meals in the kitchen.

Period 2: In this period we did newspaper articles. We then cut out interesting articles, paste them in our booklets. Next we presented our articles to the class. By then it was lunch time. We sat around the table and were treated to lunch by our abled teachers. After lunch we did our usual hygiene and classroom jobs.

Period 3: We went to art for this period. In class we made bowls out of newspaper and glue.

Period 4: In period 4 we did our daily report. Following this we did our meditation.

Note to Parents: Tomorrow is a P. A. day. All students will stay home tomorrow. Monday swimming at the YMCA!
