We went to the movies today! We went to Morningside Cinema to see The
Hunger Games…
We all enjoyed the movie, though the ending was a little disappointing. Julian’s favourite part was the bad guys. Markeisha’s favourite part was the fighting.
Jessica’s favourite part was the girl with the hair. Spencer’s favourite part
was shooting the arrows. Taylor’s favourite part was the spaceship. Megan can’t
remember her favourite part. Curtis does not know what his favourite part was.
On Monday we will : be going to the YMCA
where we will be walking around the indoor track and then going swimming !

In Class Today
Period 1: We prepared our lunch. Today we made
Pizza with Caesar Salad. Here is a picture of Markeisha and Arqum making their

Period 2: We finished off the meal prep. And then
ate our lunch a little early so we had plenty of time for Drum Band practice. Here is a picture of the class enjoying their

During lunch period today we had the first practice of the newly
reconstituted Maplewood Drum Band. We had a very good turn out and the practice
went very well. Here is a video of part of the practice….
Period 3: In gym today we helped to clean up the
front hallway after the Movember Shave off. When we had finished that job we
got to go to the gym for some free time. Some of us played soccer while others
enjoyed a game of basketball.
Period
4: Most of us got a break from our classroom jobs today so we could have
our dessert. We had fresh Apple Pie with Ice Cream. After dessert we did the
Daily Report and then had a short sitting.
Tomorrow we will: Be going to see Hunger Games Part 2 Catching
Fire at the movie theater.
Period 1: We went to the Art room where we
glazed our Ceramic Christmas Tree Ornaments.
Period 2:
We had our Drama Activity. First we played a game of Musical Chairs.

After three games of Musical Chairswe did the Circle Dance. Ms. Duffin, who is working with us this term
did a great job leading the activity. Here is a video of the Circle Dance……
Period 3: In gym we started out with a game of
Indoor Soccer. After that we went into the hallway to practice our Bocce Ball
skills. Curtis was quite the pro !

4: We did our classroom jobs, filled in the daily report then had a
sitting.
Tomorrow we will: Be making, then having Pizza and Caesar Salad
for lunch. For dessert we are going to enjoy one of Mr. Wilkens amazing Apple
Pie.
Period 1: We walked to No Frills to buy
groceries for Thursday’s Lunch Program. We bought ingredient’s for Pizza, Cesar
Salad and Apple Pie.
Period 2:
We did our Current Event activity. Arqum peeled apples for the pie.
Period 3: In gym class we helped set up the Gym
for a special Volleyball game that pits the students against a team made up of
male staff. When we had finished setting up we were able to enjoy some free
time.

4: We got our classroom jobs done then went to the gym to watch the
volleyball game.Late Breaking News !!! The boys beat the Staff Team 3 games in a row ! What a triumph for The Maplewood Boys Volleyball Team !!!
Tomorrow we will: Be working on our Ceramic Christmas tree ornaments.
We will also do our Drama activity.
Period 1: Since today was a short day schedule
we got to watch a movie in class. The movie we saw today was….
The class was wondering if Arqum Khan was related to the bad guy in the
movie as they both have the same last name. We think that since this is just a story, Arqum probably is not related to Star Trek's Khan.
Period 2: We continued watching the movie and we
even got to eat some popcorn. While we were watching the movie Mr. Wilkens unloaded the kiln with our ceramic Angels.
They came out very nicely. Here is what they look like.
Period 3: We went to gym where we began by jogging around the track. Then we played some indoor soccer.
Period
4: We did our classroom jobs, filled in the daily report and had enough
time for a short sitting.
Tomorrow we will: Work on our latest ceramic project, Christmas
tree ornaments and hopefully we will get started on the Tie Dye T Shirts we
hope to sell to raise funds for our lunch program.

The Weather Today was:

In Class Today
Period 1: We went to the gym and played Dodgeball to raise
money for prostate cancer. We did not have any time to go to the computer lab.
Period 2:We did drama. We did musical chairs. We had a circle dance.
We did guess the animals. We played bingo.
Period 3: We had gym. First we had warm up exercises. We
played bocci and then we had free time.
Period
4: We did our classroom jobs. We filled
in the daily report. We had meditation.
(Arqum called this “a skillful sitting”.)
Tomorrow we will:
Note to Parents : Monday will be a shortened day due to
a staff meeting.
Period 1: We were very busy preparing our
regular Lunch Program Lunch because today was the day Mr. Kemeny was coming to
visit our class to help Mr. Wilkens, Ms. Scott and Ms. Benyarko begin the
Maplewood Drum Band again. For lunch we had fried chicken, mashed potatoes with
gravy and Coleslaw.
Arqum was responsible for coating the chicken with Mr. Wilkens secret recipe
( better than KFC )…
Taylor, Megan and Jessica helped to make the coleslaw…..
Spencer and Curtis peeled the potatoes for the mashed potatoes….
Period 2:
We spent the first part of the period finishing off our lunch prep. Then
we welcomed our special guest Mr. Kemeny and his daughter Hazel.
Mr. Kemeny
showed us and Mr. Wilkens, Ms. Benyarko and Ms. Scotthow to run the Drum Band which will begin again here
at Maplewood next Thursday ! We had a
great time and are looking forward to working with other Maplewood students who
wish to join the Drum Band.

Period 3: We did a nice long Power Walk in gym
period and when we got back to the school we went to the gym and had free time.
Period
4: We had our dessert of Brownie’s and Ice Cream. Then we filled in the
Daily Report. That left us just enough time for a skillful sitting.
Tomorrow we will: Go to the Computer Lab then we are going to
have a chance to raise money for Prostate Cancer research by playing Dodge ball.

We walked to No Frills and bought some chicken.
Period 2:
We read the current events in the newspaper. We did the Who, What, Where and When and presented it to the class.
Period 3:
We had a warm-up exercise in the Gym. We played Boccie ball, soccer and had free time.

4:
Mr. Wilkins was away after gym. Mr. Watson covered the first half of the period. We did our classroom jobs, did our Daily Report and finished with meditation.
Tomorrow we will:
We will be cooking. A former Music teacher, Mr. Kenemy, will be visiting and having lunch with us!

In Class Today
Period 1: We went to the Art Room where we started
on Ceramic Christmas Ornaments.
Period 2: We usually do our
Drama Activity at this time. Because Curtis and Megan are away at Co-op Mr.
Wilkens decided to change our schedule. We will do Drama on Friday’s (when
hopefully everyone will be here) and we did a Smartboard activity at this time.
We did an activity that involved sorting different shapes and colours.
Period 3: In gym we started out
by doing a run in the gym. Then we lifted some free weights. We finished off by
playing Dodgeball.
Period
4: We did our classroom jobs, filled in the
Daily Report then we had time for a good sitting.
Tomorrow we will: Be going to No Frills in the morning to buy
groceries for Thursdays Lunch. We are going to be having Fried Chicken.

Today we
went to the YMCA for our regular Monday
visit. We walked around the track for the first part of our visit…

went downstairs where we used the treadmill machines to finish our work out….

had completed our physical fitness activities at the Y, we went to the Food
Court at Scarborough Town Centre where we ate lunch…

got on the LRT to come back to school. When we got back to school we did our
classroom jobs then filled in the Daily Report. Unfortunately, we did not have
time for a sit. We will have to have an extra long sit tomorrow !
Tomorrow we will: Be going to the Art Room where we will be
starting a new project. Then we will have drama.

In Class Today
Period 1:Made a salad and baked cookies. Set the table. Watched the new sport of pickleball.
Period 2: We filled out personal
data sheets. We did word searches if we finished early. We started lunch at
11:00.
Period 3: The students went for a
power walk and went to the park during gym.
Period
4: The
students did their classroom jobs, filled out the daily report and meditaded.
Tomorrow we will: We will sleep in
because it is a P.A. day.
Note to Parents : On Monday we are going to the YMCA.
Period 1: Mr. Wilkens was away today so we had to change our plans. We did our Current Event activity with a new twist. Mr. Kastris, our Occasional teacher, showed us how to get the Metro paper on line so after we had done our worksheets we were able to take up our work using the smartboard. Thanks a lot Mr. Kastris ! Period 2: We did some math worksheets and also worked on some word search puzzles.
Period 3: In gym we started out by doing some walking around the school. It was too cold to outside so we walked around the school building including several flights of stairs. After this we went to the Weight Room for some Cardio activity.
Period 4: We did our classroom jobs and finished work on our worksheets from the morning. Then we had our usual daily meditation sitting.
Tomorrow we will: Be having our Lunch Program lunch. Mr. Wilkens made the Cabbage rolls while he was home taking care of his daughter and he will bring them in for us to morrow. We willl be makinf a green salad to along with it.

The Weather Today was :

In Class Today
Period 1: We went to the Art Room where we
worked on our Ceramic Angel Candleholders. We finished the first part of our
work. Now we have to let them dry then Mr. Wilkens will bisque fire them.
Period 2: We did or Drama activity. First we
played Musical Chairs. Taylor won the first game and Megan won the second game.
Then Curtis choose to join us and he won the third and last game. Then we
played our Circle Dance game. Everybody got a chance to dance. To finish off we
played Guess the Animal Game.
Period 3: It was our first period with Mr. Ellis
in Gym. To start off we did a running test. The best runners were Team Red,
Spencer and Taylor. Spencer ran 29 laps and Taylor ran 27 laps. Julian did rather
well also, he ran 20 laps, so did Markeisha. Curtis ran 25, Arqum ran 26,
Jessica decided to walk as did Megan.
Period
4: We did the usual things. We did our classroom jobs then filled in the
daily report. We then had enough time for a good sit.
Tomorrow we will: Walk to No Frills to buy groceries for
Thursday’s lunch. We are going to have Cabbage Rolls. Then we will start making
the Cabbage rolls because Mr. Wilkens says they will taste better if cooked a
day ahead.
Today we went to the YMCA. We walked around the upstairs
Track for the first 20 minutes. Then we changed into our swim wear and went
swimming in the pool. Arqum and Megan did not bring swim wear so they went
downstairs to the cardio machines and did 20 minutes on the treadmill.
Tomorrow we will: Be working on our Ceramic Angels in the Art
Room then we will do our Drama activity. It will also be our first day in Gym with
Mr. Ellis.
Period 1: We went to the computer lab where we
checked out the weather forecast then practiced our puzzle skills on Jigzone.
Period 2: Because today was a
special schedule the periods were only 25 minutes long, so we stayed in the
computer lab.
Period 3: Since it was a short
period and the end of the Term, we just cleaned up- in the shop. At 10:30 we
went to an Awards Ceremony for the whole school. Taylor won the award for Most
Respectful Student in our class, Curtis won an award for Most Improved Student,
Megan won the Most Improved Student in Baking and Spencer won Best
Employability Skills in Baking.
Period
4: We did our classroom jobs, filled in the Daily Report then we all got to
go to a Special ISP Dance so Mr. Wilkens could finish our Report Cards…..
On Monday we will: Be going to the YMCA. We are going to go
swimming and do some exercise on the Track.

The Weather Today was :

Today we went on a field trip to The Royal Winter Fair ! It was a great
trip. We saw all sorts of animals such as pigs, sheep, chickens, horses and of
course cows.

We actually managed to find
a picnic table at the Food Court where we could sit down and eat the lunches we
made for ourselves. Considering how crowded it was at the fair, we were lucky!

When
it was time to leave, we had a bit of a scare. The 1:30 GO train was delayed
because of a Signal problem…. We were worried we might be late getting back to
school.
However, in the end we made
it back with 5 minutes to spare !
It was a great trip !
Tomorrow we will: Be going to the Computer Lab and the Library
in the morning. At 1:00 there will be a special ISP Dance !
Note to Parents : There will be NO Cafeteria service tomorrow,
students need to bring a lunch.

In Class Today
Period 1: We prepared our lunches for tomorrow’s
field trip to The Royal Winter Fair. We made Egg Salad Sandwichesand Tuna Salad Sandwiches.
Period 2: We did our Current
Event Activity worksheets and finished
packing our lunches for tomorrow.
Period 3:Since it was our last full class in
Bake Shop, Mr. Stevenson had a special treat for us. We all got to ice and
decorate our own Sugar Cookies. We had a
great time in Baking and will miss Mr. Stevenson and Mrs. Perkins.
Period
4:We started off the period by celebrating Arqum’s birthday ! Mr. Wilkens
made a chocolate cake and we all sang Happy Birthday to Arqum. Then we all
(except for Curtis and Megan ) got to have some cake and ice cream. Then we went
to the Caf. To see a special presentation by Ms. McLaren’s class. They put on
an original play about bullying and prejudice. It was a great show.
Tomorrow we will:Be
going to The Royal Winter Fair !!!
Period 1: We went to the Art room where we
worked on a new ceramic project. We are making Ceramic Angel Candleholders. We
got a good start on the project today,
we got the angel’s body and wings made.
Period 2: We usually do Drama at this time, but
since Markeisha and Arqum were away today and Curtis and Megan were at co-op,
Mr. Wilkens decided to do an experiential learning activity with those of us
here. We made some Curry Powder that we hope to sell to raise funds for our
lunch program.
Period 3: In baking today Curtis and Jessica
sold Pumpkin Pies. They sold six pies @ $5.00 a pop. A good deal ! Taylor,
Spencer and Megan worked in the shop. Taylor and Spencer ( Team Red! ) cut out
gingerbread shapes. Megan helped to put lids on Fruitcake.
Period
4: We came back to class, did our classroom jobs then filled in the Daily
Report. After that we had time for a longer than usual sitting.
Tomorrow we will: Preparing our Lunch which we will be bringing
to the Royal Winter Fair on Thursday.
Today was a great day ! After over 8 weeks at school, we
finally got to go to the YMCA ! The mix up with the membership was finally
straightened out. When we got to the Y it turned out that Curtis, Taylor,
Jessica and Megan had forgot to bring their gym clothes. Lucky for us we were
still able to do some exercise. We started out by walking around the track then
we went downstairs to use the treadmills. It was good exercise and fun too. When
we had finished with our workouts we went to Scarborough Town Centre to eat
lunch in the Food Court. After lunch we went shopping at Freshco to buy ingredients
for our lunches which we will be bringing to the Royal Winter Fair on Thursday.
Tomorrow we will: Starting a new Art Project. We also will be
doing drama.
