Daily Report for Thursday October 9th. 2014

Today’s Date: Thursday October 9th. 2014

The Weather Today was: Sunny and Warm/Cool

Low: 5°C             High: 14°C          P.O.P: 40%

In Class Today:

Period 1: In bakeshop today we were busy getting ready for the Thanksgiving Bake Sale. Aaron and he who is not to be named measured out ingredient’s for something. ( Aaron could not remember what !) Laven, Kabilan and Robert put cookies in plastic bags for the sale. Ibrahim cracked eggs into a bowl for Cornbread.  

Period 2: We spent all of period 2 getting ready for our Thanksgiving Feast. Aaron, Ibrahim and Shagee set the table ( for 14 ! ) Laven cut peppers and tomato for the salad. Robert and Aaron cut up celery, also for salad garnish. We had two guests for the meal, Mr. Spiers and Mr. Stolte. They really enjoyed the meal. We had Roast Turkey with Dressing, Succotash ( Corn and Lima Beans)  Carrot and Squash Mash, Mashed Potatoes, Pan Gravy and Garden Salad. For dessert we had a choice of Apple Crumble Pie with Ice Cream or Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream.

Period 3: We had a lot of cleaning to do after such a big meal. Everybody pitched in and it did not take that long. When we had done with clean up we did our Current Event  Activity. Then we went for a short walk to try and work off some of the calories we consumed at lunch.

Period 4: When we got back from our walk we filled in our Daily Report. Since we were somewhat pressed for time we did not get to have a sit. We did however have a chance to say good bye to Devon, who is moving to Ms. McLaren’s class . We will miss him, but we are sure he will have a great time in his new class !

Daily Report for Wednesday October 8th. 2014

Today’s Date:  Wednesday October 8^th. 2014

The Weather Today was:  Partly Sunny and Cool

In Class Today:

Period 1: Laven and another student scooped out pumpkins to make Pumpkin Pies.  Jaran and Aaron portioned out Cranberry Walnut Cookies. Robert, Shagee and Kabilan helped to put up posters around the school advertising the Thanksgiving Bake sale.

Period 2:  We started a new Art project. We are going to be making Jack O Lantern Tea Light Holders. We rolled out the clay, and began cutting out the faces. We will continue work on the project next week.

Period 3: We spent the period doing food prep for tomorrows Thanksgiving Feast. Laven and Jaran cut up celery for the dressing. Aaron made the Pumpkin Pie and cut up onions for the dressing. Devon, Kabilan, Ibrahim and Shagee peeled cut up some carrots and potatoes. Robert peeled potatoes and also cut up onions for the dressing.

Period 4: We all went to the cafeteria for the Terry Fox Rewards Assembly. We saw Mr. Tipoff get a Mohock  haircut. We found out that Big Mike Guthrie gets to be Principal for half a day tomorrow. Then the real fun began….we got to see Mr. Stolte, Ms. Singh Arnold, Mr. Smith and Mr. Watson get cream pies thrown in their faces ! We also got to see Our Principal and Vice Principal dressed up as Superheros. All these rewards came because Maplewood was able to raise over $1000.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation. It was a great assembly !

Daily Report for Tuesday October 7th. 2014

Today’s Date: Tuesday October 7^th 2014

The Weather Today was: Partly Sunny and Cool

In Class Today:

Period 1: Aaron and Laven worked on scooping out pumpkins. Ibrahim , Jaran and Shagee were working on apples. First they peeled the apples and then they used a slicer/corer to cut them up. At the end of the period we all helped to clean up.

Period 2: When we got back to our classroom we all helped to set the table for the Mindfulness Community Lunch. Then we all worked on making sentences with our weekly spelling words. Since we are having a big Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday, and it will involve a lot of prep work Mr. Wilkens thought it would be best to get an early start. So, today we made our shopping list . 

Period 3: At the beginning of the class Aaron and Laven cleaned up from the lunch and loaded the dishwasher. Then we all got our backpacks so we could do our shopping at No Frills. When we walked to the store Jaran was the class leader, and he did a great job. On the way back to school Laven was the leader of the group. We did our shopping and got everything on our list except for canned pumpkin. Hopefully Mr. Wilkens can pick up some so we can make our pie tomorrow.

Period 4: When we got back from No Frills we put away the groceries. Then we started on the Daily Report. The students who were in the Cross Country meet got back while we were writing the report. No one from our class won any medals but they all had a lot of fun at the meet. We finished off our day with a short sitting.

Today’s Date: Monday October 6, 2014

The Weather Today was:  Sunny and Cloudy

In Class Today: We have a supply teacher/ Ms. Z and a guest  during our  block  D, a student  named  Rebeca.

Period 1: In baking, the class did different types of pies. Some did scooping pumpkin seeds and some did peeling of the apples.

Period 2:  Talking  about  what we  did on the  weekend  and we put it in  our journal’s  then we had  treats of sliced  apple  and  muffins .

Period 3: We did classroom jobs we did the spelling words for Friday’s  spelling test  We did yoga  with Mr. Tipoff class.

Period 4: We did our daily report then we had our daily meditation.

Daily Report for Friday October 3, 2014

Today’s Date: Friday October 3, 2014

The Weather Today was: Mostly Sunny and warm.

Low: 15°C           High: 21°C          P.O.P.: 90%

In Class Today:

Period 1: In bakeshop today we were quite busy. Ibrahim, Jaran, Kabilan and Shagee grated Cheddar Cheese for Cheese Bread. Aaron, Robert and Devon collected the ingredients for pie pastry. Laven greased some bread pans .

Period 2: We began the period with a lesson on saving images onto our H Drive on the computer. We are going to be making posters to decorate our room for Halloween and Mr. Wilkens showed us how to find and save images that we will print out later. We then went up to the computer lab where we all applied the method we had just learned.   

Period 3: We did our dental hygiene. Then we had our weekly music activity. Today we played on the drums and continued to work on following a beat. Near the end of the period we went for a walk. It was very nice weather outside.

Period 4: When we got back from our walk we filled in the daily report. Then we had our daily meditation.

Note to Parents: Due to Mr. Wilkens absence, we will not be going to the YMCA on Monday.

Daily Report for Thursday October 2nd. 2014

Today’s Date: Thursday October 2, 2014

The Weather Today was: Overcast and Cool (at least it felt cool)

Low: 16°C           High: 20°C          P.O.P. : 20%

      Today we all got to go to the Markham Fair. It was a lot of fun. Devon liked to look around and he got to buy a Pepsi.  Aaron liked seeing a tall Cowboy ( on stilts ) walking around twirling a lasso. Ibrahim liked seeing the horses, especially the black Arabian Stallion. Shagee like the trip best about the trip. Kabilan’s favourite part of the trip was buying a Chocolate Ice Cream Cone. Laven liked the horses as well as the geese. Robert liked the chickens and roosters even though they were very noisy. Jaran really appreciated the Photo Contest Display, especially the photo’s of the chipmunks. Ms. Benyarko really liked the piglets, they were very cute. Mr. Wilkens favourite part of the trip was how amazingly well behaved the class was, they made him very proud !

Daily Report for Wednesday October 1st. 2014

Today’s Date: Wednesday October 1, 2014

The Weather Today was:  Overcast and Warm

Low: 12°C           High: 18°C          P.O.P.:40%

In Class Today:

Period 1: Aaron, Stafhan, Jaran and another student helped to set up some trays for a catering order. Shagee, Devon, Laven and Robert sliced some buns and added them to the catering order trays. We all helped to clean up at the end of the period.

Period 2:  We went to the Art Room where we did the final step in the creation of our Vases. We all learned how to apply a coat of glaze on our pieces. When there is enough ware to justify a kiln firing Mr. Wilkens will fire our pieces and we will be able to bring them home.

Period 3: Today we did our food preparation activity a little early. We all made our own picnic lunch which we  will be bringing to the Markham Fair tomorrow.

Period 4: We finished cleaning up after the food prep. Then we filled in our daily report. We finished off our day with our usual daily sit.
