Daily Report for Thursday September 27th 2018

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Warm…

High:  18°C                   LOW :  8°C                   P.O.P. :  20%

Period A : Today we made some Pie Dough. We measured out the ingredients and then mixed up the dough.

Period B : Matthew and Fahim went to the first day of their co-op placement  at Eastview Public school where they are helping out with the school nutrition program. We met in the ME Kitchen. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. Amena cut up the cabbage and cooked the Pancit noodles. Rebeca and Francis cut up the peppers and made the Mango Tomato Salad. Brandon cut up the carrots. Daidrean and Mark set the table.

Period C: We cleaned up the kitchen. We then went back to Room 200 where we dyed the Tie Dye T Shirts we hope to wear on Monday for Orange  Shirt Day.

Period D: We did the Terry Fox Run. We got back to class with just enough time to filing the Daily Report. We had a short sit.

Period A: In Food School We measured the ingredients and made orange tea biscuits Pumpkin Spice Creamer  We cleaned the tables and wash the dishes.

Period B: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went shopping to  No Frills to buy the Groceries for Filipino pancit lunch.

Period C: We prepared the T-Shirts for Tie Dye.

Period D. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : Vivian and Daidrean went to the first day of their co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart where they had an orientation session. In food school we made some chocolate chip cookies. We collected the ingredient’s watched Ms. Smith make the dough which we then portioned out.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We did some money math activities on the IWB.

Period C: We made up a menu and shopping list for Thursday’s lunch Program.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday September 24th 2018

Weather for Today: Sunny and Warm…

Period A : Today was a short Staff Meeting day. In food school, we measured ingredient’s and then we made some Pumpkin Spice Cookies.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We made point form notes for our Weekend Journal.

Period C: We went to the computer lab to type up our journals.

Period D: We had a classroom discussion, ( Amena insists it was a lecture), about some ongoing issues around supervision. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Friday September 21st 2018

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Hot…..

Period A : We had a short but busy day in Food School. Fahim and Matthew helped to make Pizza. Amena and Frankie made Pumpkin Spice Cookies. Daidrean, Mark and Brandon made Cinnamon Buns. Vivian and Rebeca made some Cinnamon Cookies with Jolisha, a Co-op student.  We left class early so we could go on our Field trip to Riverdale Farms.

At  10:00 o’clock we left school for our trip to Riverdale Farm. We took the  new 905 Eglington Ave Express bus to Kennedy station. We got on the Line 2 Eastbound subway. We got off at Castle Frank station and got on the 65 Parliament Southbound bus. We got odd at Winchester St. and walked to the Farm. When we arrived we sat down and ate our picnic lunch of Fried Chicken, Cole Slaw and Macaroni salad.

After lunch, we walked around the farm and saw a bunch of different animals such as pigs, horses, cows, bulls, goats, chickens, roosters and geese.

At 1:00 o’clock we walked back to Parliament Street where we got on the TTC and came back to school. We had just enough time for a short Mindfulness sitting then it was off to the Weekend. Hurray !!!

Daily Report for Thursday September 20th 2018

Weather for Today: Overcast and Hot…

Period A : In Food School today we were busy again. Amena, Frances and Rebeca ( The Girlz-1) made Cinnamon Buns with Ms. Geeta. The rest of us weighed out some Mozzarella cheese for tomorrow’s pizza. We also measured out ingredients for the buns. 

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the ME Kitchen to prep the food for tomorrow’s picnic lunch. Matthew cut up some sweet red pepper for the salads. Daidrean and Rebeca cut up some Green Onions. Amena and Frankie peeled and grated some carrots. Nerushan and Mark helped to clean. Then Fahim and Mr. Wilkens set up a breading station to prep the fried chicken. We all got a chance to use the station to dip the chicken pieces in egg wash and then seasoned flour.

Period C: we met in the ME Kitchen to finish off the food prep and clean up. We then went back to class and filled in the Daily Report. We went for a short Community Walk.

Period D: We went to the Art Room where we put a clear glaze coat on our Ceramic Platters

Daily Report for Wednesday September 19th 2018

Weather for Today: Very Warm with a few clouds…..

Period A : We had another busy day in Food School. Amena ( Badena), Vivian, Frankie and Rebeca ( AKA Rebekie)  made some Banana Smoothies for the have A Sip Coffee Shop. Daidrean, Matthew Fahim cut some Corn Cobs that were left over from the Corn Roast on Friday. Working with Mr. Makan, Nerushan, Mark and Brandon helped to set up a Bulletin Board in the Kitchen classroom.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the Cafeteria to attend an assembly put on by MADD. ( Mothers Against Drunk Driving ).We watched a very moving film about the dangers of Impaired Driving.

Period C: We went shopping at the local No Frills. We purchased the groceries to make a picnic lunch for Friday’s field Trip to Riverdale Farm. We will be having Fried Chicken, Coleslaw and Macaroni Salad. When we got back to school we went to the ME Kitchen where we put away the groceries. We learned about where to put the different groceries, the fridge, the cupboard or the freezer.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Note to Parents: Students will need a lunch tomorrow as Lunch Program is paying for Friday’s picnic lunch.

Period A : Amena, Rebeca and Frances set up the tables in the Staff Dining Room. Mark, Nerushan and Brandon measured out and portioned some Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the Cafeteria to attend the Terry Fox Kick Off Assembly. We learned about Terry Fox and his Cross Canada Run for the Cure.

Period C: We went to the Computer Lab to type up our Weekend Journal’s using the notes we had made yesterday. We made a menu and a shopping list for the picnic lunch we will be making on Thursday to take on our field trip to Riverdale Farm on Friday.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday September 17th 2018

Period A : We had a busy day today in Food School. We all worked very hard at cutting off the corn from the corn cobs that were not eaten at the Corn Roast on Friday.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We had to move all the Ceramic supplies and our ceramic platters to the art room. We then began work on our Weekend Journal. We made some point form note about what we had done over the weekend.

Period C: Because on Ceramic projects have to be ready by this Friday we had to shuffle the schedule a bit. We began by filling in the Daily Report. We then went for a Community Walk. When we got back to class we had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We went to the Art Room to underglaze our Ceramic Platters.

Period A : It was Picture Day today so we did not get a lot done in the kitchen.

Period B : We began with a Yoga exercise using the IWB to lead us in various yoga postures. We then did a Body Scan Mindfulness activity.

Period C: Mr. Wilkens brought the materials for Ceramics to our classroom. We put handles on our platters.

Period D: We went outside to participate in Maplewood High School’s Annual Corn Roast.

Daily Report for Thursday September 13th 2018

Weather for Today: Sunny and Hot….

Period A : In Food school today we did a number of things. Frances and Amena made some Chai Frappe’s. The rest of us cut up some Chocolate Brownies to be sold in the Caf. At the end of the period we did some word searches.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to prep our lunch. Fahim prepped the lettuce. Mark and Nerushan set the table. Rebeca, Amena, Vivian and Frances  prepped  the salad garnish. We then all watched Mr. Wilkens demo making some Chocolate Chip Cookies for our dessert.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen where we all helped to clean up. Here is a picture of Daidrean, Matthew and Fahim doing a great job washing the dishes.

When we had finished cleaning up we had our dessert of freshly baked Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Period D: We went out into the community to finish off our newspaper delivery routes. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday September 12th 2018

Weather for Today: Sunny and Hot…

Period A : Today we made some Strawberry Banana smoothie’s. We used Ice, Orange Juice, Oats, Frozen Banana’s and Strawberries sweetened with Honey to make them. We then were able to try a sample. They were delicious ! We all helped to do some clean up in the kitchen.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did a Money Math activity. We began with everybody helping to give out some plastic money and bills. We then used the IWB to do some money math activities.

Period C: We went to the local No Frills to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. When we got back to school we went to the ME Kitchen to put the groceries away. Mr. Wilkens used this as a teaching opportunity to learn about what goes in the fridge, the freezer or the cupboards.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We then did a drama activity where we played couple of games of Musical Chairs. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : In food school today we had another busy day. Amena and Mark set up a breading station and prepared some Chicken Fingers which will be served in the Cafeteria tomorrow. The rest of us all got a chance to make some egg noodle pasta.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went out into the community to deliver the Bluffs Monitor Community Newspaper. When we got back to the classroom we made a shopping list for Thursday’s Lunch Program.

Period C: We went to S-7 to clean up after the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. We went back to our classroom where we filled in the Daily Report.

Period D: We went to the Art Room to begin a Ceramic project that we hope to enter into the art exhibit at the Markham Fair. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Monday September 10th 2018

Period A : Today was a busy day in food school. Fahim and Matthew ground some coffee beans. Frances and Amena washed some dishes and put some cutlery in the servery. Rebeca and Vivian cleaned the tables and buttered some bread. Brandon, Nerushan and the rest of the class unpacked and put away some supplies.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We began with Mr. Wilkens giving a lesson on using point form notes to help us write our Weekend Journals. We then all wrote out some notes about what we had done over the weekend.

Period C: We went to the Computer Lab where we used our notes to write up our Weekend Journals using Word on the computer.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We went to the  Art Room to review classroom expectations when we are using the Art Room. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A: We went to Food School in S-3 and We met Ms. Smith We did the reparation for the cookies. Ms. Smith gave us a cookie for our hard work.

 Period B: Mr. Wilkens was away for the day so we had Mr. Ellis as our  Occasional Teacher We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to our computer lab and worked on our educational programs.

Period C: We did yoga in class and then went to the gym to play basketball and listen to the music.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Thursday September 6th 2018

Period A : We began by going out to the school Herb Garden in  the Quad and harvesting some herbs. We picked some parsley, oregano and basil. We brought them back to the kitchen and cleaned  them.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the ME kitchen to prepare our first Lunch Program meal. Mark and Nerushan set the tables. Daidrean put the burger patties on a baking sheet. Matthew helped to prep the Cole Slaw. Fahim made the fruit punch. The rest of us helped out at various tasks. We then watched Mr. Wilkens demo making a Apple Pie.

Period C: We spent the first part of the period cleaning up. We then sat down to have our dessert of Apple Pie and Ice Cream.

Period D: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A : Today in Food School we got our kitchen uniforms. We also went over the classroom rules and expectations for Food school.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the computer lab to confirm our student ID’s and passwords and to work on individual educational programs.

Period C: We used the Whiteboard to do some research on possible clay projects that we could do to enter in to the Art Show at the Markham Fair. We then began an “ All About Me “ activity.  

Period D: We went for a Community Walk around the school property. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation Sitting.

Period A : We began our first day at school today. This semester we will be working in the Food School with Ms. Smith. We did a tour of the kitchen and the Bakery. We also received a lot of paperwork for us to bring home.

Period B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We spent the rest of the morning moving our kitchen supplies to the ME Kitchen.

Period C: We continued with moving supplies from the classroom to the ME Kitchen.

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.
