Daily Report for Thursday December 21st 2017

Weather for Today:  

High: -4°C           LOW : -7°C                   P.O.P. : 80%

Period A:& B: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the Cafeteria to watch and perform in the Holiday Assembly. It was a great time for all. We did quite well singing our version of Silent Night.

At lunch we had our Lunch Program lunch. Mr. Wilkens did most of the food prep because we were busy in the assembly.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen and we all helped to clean up. We then had our dessert of Vanilla Ice Cream with chocolate sauce.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We are still working on our Paper Mache birds and butterflies.

Note to Parents : Tomorrow  is Short Day. Bus pick up at 12:00 Noon.

Period A&B : We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We spent the whole morning practicing our act for the Holiday Assembly that will happen tomorrow. We are singing a Christmas Carol  Silent Night. Here is a video of us practicing…

Period C: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We are continuing work on our Paper Mache Birds and Butterflies.

Daily Report for Tuesday December 19th 2017

Weather for Today: Overcast and Warmish ( for winter )…

Period A: The Girlz went to their placement at Giant Tiger. Once again they were folding clothes also putting them on hangers. Ahmed went to his co-op placement Shoppers Drug Mart. He was facing merchandise. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We started on cleaning the classroom. Though it is a pretty substantial job.

Period B: We looked at different songs that we might sing at Thursday’s Holiday Assembly. We went to the ME Kitchen to get the dishes to set the table for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. We went to S-7 to set the table.

Period C: We came back to class and worked on our song for the assembly. We will be singing Silent Night. We filled in the Daily Report.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. He brought us to the Festive Season Party that was held in the Cafeteria.

Period A, B and C: Today was a short staff meeting day schedule. We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then filled in the Daily Report for Friday. We watched a video of Charlie Brown’s Christmas movie then we an Arthur Christmas movie.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued work on our Paper Mache Birds and Butterflies.

Daily Report for Friday December 15th 2017

Weather for Today: Overcast and Coolish…

Period A: Fahim and Matthew went to their co-op placement at the Boys and Girls Club. They helped to set tables for a party. The rest of us . had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then  went to the ME Kitchen to prepare for the Holiday Alumni Feast. Mark and Nerushan set the tables in the Partnership Room. We all helped to prep the food for the Feast.

Period B: We went to the Computer Lab where we worked on various educational programs.

Period C: We took the whole period to clean up from the feast.

Period D: Mr. Stolte was away and we had Ms. Zarudny as our occasional teacher. We packed up our ceramic pizza slices. We then went to the weight room and did some physical education activities.

Daily Report for Thursday December 14th 2017

Weather for Today:  Sunny and Very Cold..

Period A & B : Mr. Makan was away today and we had Ms. Duffin as our EA. We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to prep the food for tomorrow’s Holiday Feast. Brandon and Matthew prepared the stuffing. Fahim and Ahmed made the Cranberry Sauce. Nerushan washed the dishes and helped to clean the kitchen.

Period C: Ahmed went to his co-op placement at the Boys and Girls Club. Matthew and Brandon did a great job rolling out the dough for the Apple Pies. The rest of us helped to clean up.

Weather for Today: Sunny and Cold….

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to begin the food prep for Friday’s Holiday Feast. First we did our Current Events activity. When we had finished we began our food prep. Fahim and Brandon peeled and chopped the onions. Amena and Rebeca cut up the celery. Mark and  Shakur cut up the bread for the stuffing. Ahmed, Nerissa Nerushan and Matthew prepped the yams.

Period B: We continued with our food prep for part of the period. Then we went upstairs to Room 200 where presented our Current Events work to the class. We then did some Money Math activities on the IWB.

Period C: We went for a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We are hoping to finish our Paper Mache birds and butterflies.

Note to Parents : We will be having Food Program lunch on Friday. Students will need to bring a lunch tomorrow.

Daily Report for Tuesday December 12th. 2017

Weather for Today: Sunny and Cold…

Period A: Ahmed went to his co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart. Once again he was facing merchandise on the shelves. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then braved the cold and snow to deliver the Bluffs Monitor Community newspaper to our local neighbourhood.

Period B: We  went to the ME Kitchen to get the dishes to set the table in S-7 for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. We then went to S-7 and set the table. We then had some delicious Hot Chocolate.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen. Ahmed and Matthew went with Mr. Wilkens to get the dishes. We then washed the dishes. We returned to Room 200 and filled in the Daily Report. We then had time for a short Sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued work on our Paper Mache birds and Butterflies.

Note to Parents; We will be going to the Kris Kringle Market here at school. Students would need a small amount of money if they wanted to purchase anything.

  We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then on our Field Trip to the Christmas Market in the Distillery District. We took the 198 Scarborough College Express  to Kennedy Station. We took the subway to Castle Frank Station. We then took 65 Parliament bus to Front St. We walked to the Market. After doing a little sightseeing and shopping at the Market we walked up to Queen St. where we got on the 502 Bus to Yonge St. We walked through the Eaton Centre to the Food Court where ate our lunch. We then took the TTC back to school.

Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Cold…

Period A: Fahim and Matthew wen to their co-op placement at the Boy and Girls Club. At the club they made some holiday decorations. The rest of us  had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the Computer Lab where we worked on various educational programs like IXL.

Period B: We began by talking about the act we are hoping to do in two weeks at the Holiday Assembly. We then did a Body Scan Mindfulness exercise.

Period C: We spent the entire period catching up on our Daily Reporting !

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued work on our paper mache butterflies and fish.

Note to Parents : On Monday we will be going on a field trip the Christmas Market at the Distillery District.

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the Kitchen to prepare our lunch. Amena cut up some mint. Rebeca cut up some Cilantro. Nerissa and Fahim peeled and cut up the carrots. Brandon and Matthew peeled and cut up some cucumber. Ahmed and Mark Made the juice and together with Nerushan set the table. Shakur helped to keep things clean.

Period B: We continued with the lunch prep. When we had finished the prep we back to Room 200 and decorated our  Holiday Tree. Here is a picture of our tree…

Period C: We all helped to clean up the significant mess in the kitchen. When we had finished the clean up  we sat down to celebrate Nerrissa and Shakur’s birthday.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued work on our paper mache creations.

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We wrote in our weekend journals. 

Period B: We went to S-23 where we were able to write some computer code with the help of Mr. Infinity.

Period C: We began the prep for tomorrow’s lunch. We marinated the chicken and up some vegetables and we made a Birthday Cake for Shakur and Nerissa.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued work on our paper macahe  butterflies and birds.

Daily Report for Tuesday December 5th 2017

Weather for Today: Overcast, Windy and Coolish…

Period A: Ahmed went to his Co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart where he was facing merchandise on shelves. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then used the IWB to find a recipe for Bangladeshi Chicken Biryani. We then made a shopping list to use on our shopping expedition to No Frills. We went to No Frills to buy the groceries and we made a stop at Kabul Market where we bought some premium Basmati rice and some seasonings.

Period B: We got back to school a little past 10:40 and we went to the ME Kitchen to upload the groceries. We then set the table in S-7 for the Maplewood Mindfulness Meditation Community lunch. We returned to our classroom where we used the IWB to some Money Math activities.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen where we cleaned the dishes from the lunch. We filled in the Daily Report. We had our Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued work on our Paper Mache animals.

Note to Parents: We will not be going to the YMCA for the rest of the year. We will be going back in January.

Daily Report for Monday December 4th 2017

Weather for Today: Overcast, Foggy  and Cool…

 We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went on our Field Trip to the Ontario Provincial Courts. We walked up to Lawrence Ave and got on the 54 Lawrence bus. We got off at Warden and took the Warden 68 bus to Eglington Ave. and walked to the Courts. We had to go through a metal detector to get in to the courts. We went to a courtroom where we were able to observe a trial. The man had been charged with assault. He had been involved in a “Road Rage” incident where he had spit on another driver. The man was found guilty and sentenced to a $500.00 fine. After the trial we walked to a Burger King restaurant to eat our lunch. We got on the Eglington Ave. East bus to Kennedy Station where we got on the 86 Scarborough bus and got back to school with just enough time to have some Birthday cupcakes Shakur’s Mom had brought. We then had enough time to fill in the Daily Report. 

Daily Report for Thursday November 30th 2017

Weather for Today: Overcast and Rainy…

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to make our lunch of Banhn Mi ( see picture below ) and Pho. Mark, Ahmed and Nerushan set the table. Rebeca and Amena cut up the scallions and cilantro. Brandon peeled and sliced the cucumbers. Nerissa prepped the chicken breasts. Brandon prepped the baguettes. Fahim helped to cook the chicken.

Period B: When we had finished with the lunch prep we went back to our classroom and did some money math on the IWB.

At 12:15 we went to the foyer to watch the Movember shave off. Here are some videos of the event.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen to clean up. After we had finished cleaning we ate our dessert of Mango Cake with Nutmeg Cream. We then went back to our classroom where all we had time for was filling in the Daily Report.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued to work on our Paper Mache fish and butterflies.

Note to Parents: We will be going on a field Trip to the Ontario Provincial Courts on Monday. Please ensure students dress appropriately for the weather.

Period A: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. Using our fake money and the IWB we did some money math activities.

Period B: We walked to the Food Basics store at Morningside Crossings to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. Rebeca and Nerissa bought their lunch at Chicken Joy.

Period C: We went to the ME Kitchen where we helped make dessert for tomorrow, a Mango Cake.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We continued to work on our Paper Mache animals.

Period A: The Girlz went to their co-op placement at Giant Tiger. They were kept busy hanging tights and sweaters. Ahmed went to his co-op placement where he was facing stock. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the computer lab where we worked on individual educational programs.

Period B: We began by filling in yesterday`s Daily Report which we were unable to do yesterday. We then went downstairs to the ME Kitchen to get the dishes and plates for setting the table for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. We then went to S-7 to set the table. When we got back to class we used the IWB to research Vietnamese food. We decided that we will be having Pho and Bahn Mi for lunch on Thursday.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen. We washed the dishes from the Mindfulness lunch. We went back to class and filled in the Daily Report.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We will be beginning a new project. We will be making Paper Mache animals.

Period B: When we  finished writing in our journal’s we presented our work to the class.  

Period C: We had a Community Walk. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We put the finishing touches on our Ceramic Pizza slices. We made some posters about Movember

Period A: Fahim and Matthew went to their co-op placement at the Boys and Girls Club. They helped to organize and put away the toys. The rest of us had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the computer lab where we worked on individual educational programs.

Period B: The Girlz went to their Chat Group. The rest of us went to the ME kitchen where we did an amazing job of tidying up and organizing the cupboards and drawers. Next week we will take pictures of the contents so students who have trouble reading will be able to find what they want and more importantly  know where to put things away in the proper place.

Period C: We continued to work on organizing the ME kitchen. We also set up the Partnership Room for the delayed birthday    celebration for Matthew. We then had Ice Cream and Birthday cake in the Partnership Room with Mr. Watson’s class.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We were glazing our Ceramic Pizza’s.

Note to Parents : Monday is Short Staff Meeting Day. Students will be picked up at 12:15.

Period A: & B We had our Mindfulness Minutes. Then we went to the ME Kitchen  to make our brunch Rebeca and Amena did the bacon Fahim and Brandon did cut the onions. Rebeca and Matthew made the waffles Nerissa and Matthew carked the eggs Mark and Nerushan Ahmed set  the table all of us went  to the partnership room to have our brunch when the cooking was completed. Mr. Watson’s class joined us for Brunch.

Period C: We met in the ME Kitchen to clean up the kitchen and the dishes from our lunch. We all worked very hard as it was quite the mess ! Then we went  for  a Community Walk.

Period D: Mr. Stolte was away and we had Ms. Zarudny as our Occasional Teacher. We glazed the pizza plates .

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to YMCA. We took the 86 Bus to Kennedy Station Then we took LRT to McCowan Station.  We walked around on the track and field for 20 Minutes. Ms. Theresa had also joined us at the YMCA. We then went to Scarborough Town Centre to have our lunch then we went to Freshco to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. We went to the McCowan  LRT Station. From Kennedy Subway We took 86 bus back to school.

When we got back to school we put away the groceries in the ME Kitchen.  

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. Then we went to the gym to watch a special volleyball game between the staff and students. It was to raise money for Movember.

Period A: Ahmed went to his Co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart. He was facing products on the shelves. The Girlz ( minus Nerissa, who was absent ) went to their Co-op placement at Giant Tiger. They were folding clothes and putting them on hangers. The rest of us  began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did our Current Event activity.

Period B: We went to the ME Kitchen where we got the plates and utensils to set the table for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. Then we presented our Current Events worksheets to the class. Ahmed and the Girlz came back from Co-op.

Period C: We met in the ME kitchen to clean the dishes from the Mindfulness lunch. We had a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We will be continuing on our Ceramic Pizza’s.

Note to Parents : YMCA tomorrow. Students must bring swimming and gym wear.

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went to the ME Kitchen where Mr. Wilkens made the Empanadas de Leche we were supposed to have on Thursday. We were able to write in our Weekend Journals.

Period B: We finished off our journals. Then we went back to Room 200 where we presented our journals.

Period C: We had a Community Walk. We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We are going to glaze our ceramic pizza slices and plates. Here are some pictures of us working on our projects...

Daily Report for Thursday November 16th 2017

Weather  for  Today: Overcast and Coolish….

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the ME Kitchen to prepare our lunch. Fahim helped to cook the sofrito and chicken. Amena  peeled, cut and grated the carrots. Rebeca cut up the sweet pepper. Brandon cut up the tomatoes. Mark and Nerushan set the table. Ahmed cleaned the ovens and helped  out with the cooking. Matthew and Brandon cut the celery. Nerissa washed, spun dried and ripped into bite size pieces, the lettuce.

Period B: There was a special event in the gym today. It was a fund raising event for  Camp Kearny, an outdoor school that we will all have a chance to go to in May, next year. We got to play Volleyball against staff. It was a lot of fun !

Period C: Ahmed went to his co-op placement at  Dollarama. We all helped to clean the kitchen and do the dishes. When we had done we had pudding for dessert. We filled in the Daily Report.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. Today we started on a new project. We will making Butterflies and birds out of paper mache. ( To Parents : if possible could you please send in some toilet paper and/or paper towel cardboard tubes as well as some plastic grocery bags for this project ! )

Note to Parents : Tomorrow is a PA Day. No school ( for the students, the teachers have to work ! ) .

 We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to YMCA. We took the 86 Bus to Kennedy Station Then we took LRT to McCowan Station.  We Walked around on the track and field for 20 Minutes. Ms. Theresa had also joined us at the YMCA. We then went downstairs to the Badminton Courts to practice our skills. We went to Scarborough Town Centre to have our lunch then we went to Freshco to buy the groceries for tomorrow’s lunch.,. We went to the McCowan  LRT Station. From Kennedy Subway We took 86 bus back to school.

When we got back to school we put away the groceries in the ME Kitchen. We then filled in the Daily Report and had a short sit.

Daily Report for Tuesday November 14th . 2017

Period A: The Girlz went to their co-op placement at Giant Tiger. The rest of us began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did our Current Events Activity. We picked out an article from the 24 Hour newspaper and used it to fill in our worksheets. When we had all finished our worksheets we presented our work to the class.

Period B: The Girlz returned from co-op. We went to the ME kitchen to get the tableware to set the table for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. We then went to S-7 to set the table. When we had finished we went back to our classroom where we used the IWB to look for recipe ideas for Thursday’s lunch. We decided we will be having Arroz con Pollo for our entrée and Empanadas de Leche for dessert.

Period C: Ahmed went to his new co-op placement at Shoppers Drug Mart.  We met in the ME kitchen to do the dishes from the Maplewood Mindfulness Community lunch. We had a Community Walk. Mr. Wilkens was a little confused about the time so we did not have time to do the Daily Report or do our afternoon sit.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. Today we continued work on our Ceramic Pizza slices.

Note to Parents :  Tomorrow we will be going to the YMCA. Students need to bring gym wear and a lunch that does not require reheating. ( or $ for lunch )

We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went on our field trip to Chinatown/Kensington Market. We took the 86 Scarborough bus to Kennedy Station. We took the subway train to Spadina Station. We then got on the Spadina streetcar to College.  We then walked around Chinatown and Kensington Market. We bought some T-Shirts which we will use for tie-dye. We then went to Spice World where Mr. Wilkens bought some spices. We walked to the Village by the Grange food court  to eat lunch. When we had finished our lunch we walked back to Spadina and visited the Dragon City Mall. We then took the TTC back to school.

Daily Report for Friday November 10th 2017

Weather for Today: Sunny and COLD…

Period A: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the computer lab where we worked on our numeracy and literacy skills by using the IXL program. We also had some free computer time at the end of the period.

Period B: We began the period by doing some Yoga . We used the IWB to go to a site that showed us various Asanas. We were called down to the cafeteria for a Remembrance Day assembly.

Period C: Mr. Makan had an appointment so we had Ms. Lokuliyana as a supply . We filled in the Daily Report. We had a Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period D: We met Mr. Stolte in S-16. We will continue to work on our ceramic Pizza’s.

Note to Parents : Field trip to Chinatown and Kensington Market on Monday. Please make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather.
