Daily Report for Wednesday September 30th 2015



Weather for Today: Sunny and Cool…

HIGH : 17°C                 LOW : 11°C                  P.O.P.: 30%


Period A: We finished off our Three Dimensional Mixed Media Pictures. We finished off the gluing of the twigs and the birds. Ms. Queen will be displaying the picture tomorrow night at Parents Night.

Period B& C (It was a short day schedule because of Terry Fox Run ): We began as usual with our Mindfulness Minutes. We then went for our weekly shopping trip to No Frills. We bought the ingredients  for Lunch Program lunch tomorrow. We will be having Lasagna, Caesar Salad, and Garlic Bread. When we got back to class we put away the groceries.

Period D: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report. Mr. Wilkens gave us the Tie Dye T Shirts  we made yesterday. Here is a picture of us wearing our shirts….

Daily Report for Monday September 28th 2015



Weather for Today: Cloudy and Rain…

HIGH : 22°C                 LOW : 18°C                  P.O.P. : 10%


Period A: We continued work on our latest project. Today we choose the birds we wanted to put in our picture and colored them in. Though it was a short day,some of us even managed to attach the birds to the colored background.

Period B: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. We started out by writing in our weekend journal.We did not have time to present our journal's to the class as this was a short day. We then began work on some Tie Dye T Shirts that we hope to have ready by Wednesday for the Terry Fox Run. After Mr. Wilkens had pre=soaked the shirts in a salt and sodium  carbonate solution, we learned how to tie the shirts in a spiral pattern, with cotton twine.

Period C:  we continued to work on our T shirts. We even managed to do a little clean up before lunch.

Period D: Owing to the short day we only had time to do our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting. We did a guided meditation from the Insight Timer App on Mr. Wilkens cell phone.

Daily Report for Friday September 25th 2015



Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Warm…

Period A: We continued work on our latest art project. We used watercolor paint to do a color wash on the paper background.

Period B: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We went to the computer lab where we worked on various educational programs. Today there was a special fund raising activity for Terry Fox. It was a school wide dodge ball competition in the gym. We went to it and had a lot of fun !

Period C: Today was our first day of day of Yoga instruction. Unfortunately there was a fire drill scheduled at the beginning of the period so we only got to do yoga for the second half of the period. Still, it was a great beginning !

Period D: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report. We had our daily mindfulness meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Thursday September 24th 2015



Weather for Today: Sunny and Warm….

Period A: As we had to go to an assembly in Period B, we did not go to our sewing class today. Instead we stayed in Mr. Wilkens class to prepare our lunch. We all got to make our own personal pizza using Nan Bread as the crust.

Period B: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. Then we went to the cafeteria for a Terry Fox Assembly. We learned about Terry Fox and also heard about some of the things going on in our school to raise funds for this worthy cause.

Period C: We had a delicious dessert of Brownies and Ice cream. We then finished cleanup of the class and kitchen. Then we finished off the Terry Fox banner that we put up outside our classroom.

Period D: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report. We had our daily Mindfulness Meditation sitting.

Period A: We started a new project. We are going to make framed watercolor pictures. Today we started by painting the frames. We then went to get our pictures taken but it was too busy !

Period B: We went to No Frills to buy groceries for tomorrow’s lunch. Ahmed was the class leader on the trip. We bought the ingredient’s to make personal Pizza’s. When we got back to school we had our pictures taken.

Period C: We had our (delayed) Mindfulness Minutes. We then did an art activity where we colored in decorations about the upcoming Terry Fox Run.

Period D: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily Mindfulness meditation sitting.

Daily Report for Tuesday September 22nd 2015



Weather for Today: Sunny and Warm…

HIGH: 21         LOW: 10          P.O.P. : 10%

Period A: We got the last of our Tie Dye projects finished. We then went for a walk around the school grounds to collect twigs and branches for a future art project.

Period B: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes. Myron and Keyur set the table for the Maplewood Mindfulness Community. We then had our drama activity. We had two games of Musical Chairs. Rebeca won the first game and Myron won the second. We then did our Circle Dance.

Period C: Rebeca and Fahim loaded the dishwasher. Then we had an artistic critique of our ceramic Gecko’s. We learned some more about glazing techniques. Keyur and Scottie started a Level 2 co-op placement in the school library. Myron then led the class on a Community Walk.

Period D: We did our classroom job’s. We filled in the Daily Report. We had our daily mindfulness meditation sitting.

Weather for Today: Sunny and Warm

Period A: We completed our tie dye project. Some were landscapes, some were portraits. Some of us have to finish gluing the wooden frames.

Period B: We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then did our current events activity which we then reported on to the class. We read about “sock Guns” and Equinox Day on September 21st. each year.

Period C: We some money math about the cost of lunch in the cafeteria. We also did some adding and subtracting exercises. We then played a word game, Hangman. We only got “hung” one time !

Period D: We did our classroom jobs. We filled in the daily report. We had our daily mindfulness meditation exercise.

Daily Report for Friday September 18th 2015



Weather for Today: Sunny/Partly Cloudy and Hot

Period A: Since we have finished our Tie Dye Fabric projects we learned something new today. Ms. Queen showed us how to stitch with a needle and thread. While she demonstrated the stitching to two of us at a time, the rest of the class got to sing and dance to songs of our choosing from You-Tube.

Period B: We had our weekly time in the Computer Lab where we worked on various educational programs. When we got back to class we had our Mindfulness Minutes activity.

Period C: Ms. Merlin led us in some introductory Yoga instructions. We learned about breathing and stretching. After our Yoga lesson we went for a Community Walk. Mark was the class leader on the walk and he did a great  job ! Here is a picture of the class while we were on the walk...

Weather for Today: Sunny and HOT !

Period A:We finished off our Tie Dye fabric projects. Next stop the Markham Fair !

Period B:We had our Mindfulness Minutes. We then prepared our lunch. Nerissa and Mark washed and broke up the lettuce.Scottie spun the lettuce dry. Emily and Shakur prepared the garlic bread. Ahmed ,Fahim and Keyur set the table. Ahmed also made the lemonade. Rebecca and Myron made the meatballs. We then sat down to enjoy our fabulous meal !

Period C:The whole class helped to clean up the classroom/kitchen. We then went out into the community to finish delivering the Bluffs Monitor newspaper.

Period D: We completed our classroom jobs. We filled in the Daily Report. We had our daily Mindfulness sitting.

Daily Report for Wednesday September 16th 2015



Weather for Today: Sunny and Hot !

Period A: We continued to work on our Tie Dye Landscape projects. We picked out fabric pieces which Ms. Queen ironed on to our tie dye backgrounds. We also worked on some coloring pages.

Period B: Today we made our first grocery shopping trip to the local No Frills. Scottie was class leader and he did an amazing job ! We bought the ingredients for tomorrow’s lunch . We will be having Spaghetti and Meatballs, Garlic Bread and Caesar Salad. We bought tomato's, peppers, celery and garlic and other items for the meal. The class managed to go to No Frills ,shop, and get back to school in under 1 hour !

Period C: It was another very busy period.  The whole class worked hard at chopping up the various vegetables to make the Spaghetti Sauce from scratch. We then cleaned up the workstations. Here are some pictures of us  preping the sauce ingredients..

Daily Report for Tuesday September 15th. 2015


Weather for Today: Sunny and Warm….A Beautiful Day !!!

HIGH: 26                      LOW: 11                       P.O.P. : 10%

Period A: We continued work on our  Tie Dye Fabric projects. We picked out the fabric pieces that we wanted to add to our picture. Ms. Queen ironed the fabric  pieces on to the pictures. We also did some coloring of different pictures that Ms. Queen had given us.

Period B: We began with our Mindfulness Minutes exercise. Mr. Wilkens led us in a 3 minute meditation then once again we each spoke to the class and shared one thing that we are grateful for in our lives. Scottie and Myron set the table for the first meeting of the Maplewood Mindfulness Community. The whole class then did a money math activity. Mr. Wilkens gave out some plastic money in various denominations and we then had to add up different amounts.

Period C: The class as a whole got do our first Level three  Co-op experience. We delivered the Bluffs Monitor community newspaper  to some houses close to the school. The class did a great job and we were able to enjoy the fantastic weather outside ! Here is a picture of the class...

Daily Report for Monday September 14 2015



Weather for Today: Sunny and Warm….A Beautiful Day !!!

Period A: We continued work on our  Tie Dye Fabric projects. Ms. Queen helped us to cut out pieces of Iron On fabric to make trees and mountains.

Period B: We began witgh our Mindfulness Minutes exercise. Mr. Wilkens led us in a 2 minute meditation then once again we each spoke to the class and shared one thing that we are grateful for in our lives. We the did our Weekend Journal Activity. We wrote in our journals about some of the things we did over the weekend. When we had all finished writing we each presented what we had written to the class .

Period C: We worked on our our Ceramic Gecko’s. Today we applied different colors of glaze to the bisque-fired Gecko’s. When we were done we cleaned up. Here are some pictures of us working on our Gecko's...

Daily Report for Friday September 11th 2015


Weather for Today: Partly Cloudy and Warm…

Apologies for the Late Posting….. Things are kinda busy with the start of the Year…

Period A: We continued working on our Tie Dye Landscape projects. Today we were pasting fabric pieces on to the tie dyed fabric background. Some of us delivered the Field Trip permission forms to the other classes who will be coming with us to the Markham Fair on October 2nd.

Period B: We began class with what Mr. Wilkens calls our Morning Mindfulness Activity. We began with a 2 minute sit and then we each answered the question that Mr. Wilkens asked us about something we are grateful for. We then spent the rest of period B on our first Drama Activity. We began with two rounds of Musical Chairs. Mirron won the first round and Rebecca was the winner of the second round. We then did the Circle Dance Activity which was also a lot of fun. Mirron showed us some moves that looked like “crumping” and we all had a chance to dance up a storm. Here is a video of us playing Musical Chairs…

Period C: We spent the first half of the period in the Computer lab. We had a little difficulty resetting our passwords but Mr. Wilkens eventually figured out how get us all signed on. We then returned to our classroom where we had a short meditation sitting. We then completed our classroom jobs. Unfortunately we did not have time to do the blog posting but Mr. Wilkens will try and get the posting done this weekend.

Period D: We all went outside for the year’s first school wide SAC event, the Annual Maplewood Corn Roast. The corn was delicious and we got to socialize with other students at Maplewood. It was an enjoyable event. Here are some pictures of us at the Corn Roast…

Daily Report for Thursday September 10th. 2015



Weather for Today: Sunny and Warm…

HIGH: 24°C                   LOW: 15°C                    P.O.P : 10%

Period A: We continued work on our Tie Dye Landscape projects. Today we took the elastic bands of the fabric and then ironed the fabric. We then began choosing the fabric pieces that we will be using to finish the project.

Period B: Today was our first lunch program lunch. Keyur made the juice. Mirron, Scottie and Nerissa cut up vegetables for the salad garnish. Shakur made the Tomato soup. Fahim washed and dried the lettuce .Emily and Rebeca set the table. Then we all made a Grilled Cheese sandwich.

Period C: We had our dessert  of  Chunky Mixed Fruit with Vanilla Ice Cream. We then cleaned up the kitchen/classroom. We then went for a walk around the school property. It was beautiful outside !

Period D: We had a very hard time producing the daily report! We did finally get it done though. Unfortunately we only had time for a short sitting, but any sitting is better than none.

Daily Report for Wednesday September 9th. 2015

Weather for Today: Rainy, Overcast, and Hot….

Period A: In sewing today we worked on Tie Dye Fabric projects. Ms. Queen hopes to have the projects ready by next week so we can enter them in the Markham Fair Art Contest.

Period B: Today we did our first Current Event activity. We cut out pictures from the  Metro Newspaper and pasted them on to worksheets where we answered  the 5 W questions.

Period C: In this period we went to the Art Room where we made our first ceramic project. We learned how to make Geckos’ from clay .

Period D: We filled in the Daily Report. We had a short meditation sitting. We did not have time for our classroom jobs, but we will be sure to get to them tomorrow.


Note to Parents : Please return school form packages as soon as possible. Tomorrow is our first Lunch Program Lunch. Students do not need to bring a lunch.

Daily Report for Tuesday September 8th. 2015

Weather for Today: Rain, Sunny periods and HOT !

Period A: In period A we went to Room S-7 where we met our period A teacher, Ms. Queen. Ms. Queen showed us where our lockers were. We then talked a little about what we will be doing in her Sewing class.

Period B: In period B we went to our main classroom, S 15, where we met our core teacher, Mr. Wilkens. We talked about some of the things we will be doing in class this year like the Lunch Program our Daily Report and our daily mindfulness meditation exercises. We also discussed classroom and school rules and expectations.

Period C: We started out the class by writing in our journals about what we had done over the summer. After we had written in our journals we each presented our journals to the class.

Period D: We began with Mr. Wilkens assigning us our classroom jobs for the month of September. We then listened to Mr. Wilkens describe how to do mindfulness meditation. Then we had a short guided meditation on the breath. We had just enough time for Mr. Wilkens to answer some questions that some of the students had.
